Dong Lina is the first visually impaired (视障) person to get a master’s degree (硕士学位) in radio and televis
ion. “May we have dreams no matter where we are, and keep on doing what we love, and always remain down-to-e
arth and calm,” the 39-year-old said in her speech on June 28, 2023.
Born into a farming family in Dalian, Dong lost her sight at 10 but she never stopped her education.
In fact, she began to study at Dalian School for the blind and deaf in 1992. Then she started her full-time mast
er’s courses in 2020. “This school provides a warm and excellent educational environment for special education stu
dents like me.”
From the moment she started her study, the university held Dong to the same study requests as the others, but
also provided support in the form of Braille (盲文) products. This made her often thought of her childhood. At that

Most students have 10-minute breaks between classes. They can do some exercise, talk with each other and rel
ax during the time. However, to keep their students safe, some schools don’t let them leave the classroom during br
