This past Tuesday, I had my first ride in an autonomous car.The expectation for me was a bit like a kid waiting for holidays. But when I shared my passion with friends, many warned me to make sure my life insurance was paid in full before getting into the car.
The car looked pretty much like any other car on the road. The most amazing thing about the experience was how un amazing it was.I'll admit to being a bit disappointed at how normal it all seemed.I'm ready for a car with no driving wheel (方向盘) and a meeting table in the back. But it'll be a long time before most people are ready to go there. That's why the self driving engineers want to create a comforting sense of lasting. They think it may take 25 years before we get fully autonomous cars. But whenever it arrives, rather than seeming like a great step forward, the autonomous driving felt like just another baby step in a line of continuous progress.
That's because the plan is a combination of human and autonomous driving. The car I experienced is designed for highway driving. If the human driver doesn't respond in time, the autonomous driver assumes something is wrong and carefully guides the car to the shoulder. At any point, however, all the driver has to do to regain control is touch the wheel or brake (刹车).
This combination will let the autonomous car industry grow one step at a time so that society gets comfortable with it.The earliest consumer models will probably handle only certain tasks like highway driving and parking.Humans will still be responsible for the more challenging steps like dealing with side streets.Gradually, over a period of many years, the role of the human driver will wind down.
4.What is the friends' attitude towards the author's self driving experience
A.Favourable. B.Indifferent.
C.Objective. D.Concerned.
5.What can be inferred from paragraph 2
A.The author was disappointed at the car.
B.The engineers express cautious optimism.
C.Not all the people accept self driving cars.

A.It poses a threat to humans.
B.Human driving still matters.
C.The technology is imperfect.
D.It only targets highway drivers.
7.Which of the following best describes the combination of human and autonomous driving
A.Demanding. B.Challenging.
C.Inspirational. D.Progressive.

Nao, the first robot able to show feelings, has been created by a European research team. When Nao is sad, he lowers his head and looks down. When he's happy, he raises his arms for a hug.Nothing is out of the ordinary, except that Nao is a robot.
“We're modeling the first years of life,” says Lola Canamero, a computer scientist at the University of Hertforshire.“The feelings are shown through physical gestures and body movements rather than facial or verbal (言语的) expressions.”
In the future, says the scientist, robots are likely to act as companions, provide support for old people, and help people shop online. In such uses, the display of feeling will be important in making the interactions (交往) more natural and comfortable.
Nao has been programmed to copy the emotional skills of a one year old child. It can memorize faces, and knows the basic rules of good and bad.Based on these it can decide how to react to what is going on.The actions going with each feeling are pre programmed, but Nao decides for itself when to display them.
Nao is also programmed to have different personalities.A more independent robot is less likely to call for help when exploring a room, while a more fearful robot will show distress if it finds something in the room that may be harmful.
Canamero's team will take its emotional programming forward into medical applications.Part of the project will look at ways to use robots in hospitals to support the roles of doctors, nurses and parents.Children might find that a small, friendly looking robot that can understand their emotional states makes them less anxious.“We want to explore different roles — the robots will help the children to understand their treatment and explain what they have to do.We want to help the children to control their anxiety,” she says.
8.According to the text, what can we know about Nao
A.Nao displays different feelings in different situations.
B.Nao is able to imitate adult emotional displays.
C.Nao can remember people's feelings.
D.Nao learns emotions from facial expressions.

A.Scientists worked on facial and spoken expressions to create Nao's emotions.
B.The time when Nao displays feelings has been pre programmed.
C.Emotional programming is used in medicine production.
D.Robots with emotional skills can help children feel more comfortable.
10.What does the underlined word “distress” in paragraph 5 probably mean
A.Courage. B.Anxiety.
C.Anger. D.Satisfaction.
11.What is the text mainly about
A.The relationship between humans and robots.
B.The roles that robots play in different fields.
C.The first robot able to show feelings.
D.The long history of robots.

People who have trouble walking or moving around often have a hard time enjoying the beach. But hundreds of beaches in Greece now offer a new way for people in wheelchairs to get into the water by themselves. It's called Seatrac.
Seatrac is basically a chair on a moving ramp (坡道) that can carry a disabled person into the sea.It is operated by remote (远程的) control.Once in the sea, the person can either remain in the chair, enjoying the water, or go for a swim. When the person is ready to get out of the water, the Seatrac system brings the chair back to the top of the ramp.
Seatrac was invented and developed in Greece. When one of the inventors, Ignatios Fotiou, was talking with a friend who used a wheelchair, the friend said he enjoyed the sea, but didn't like having to be carried into the ocean.Mr Fotiou realized there must be a way to make it easier for wheelchair users to get into the water.Mr Fotiou worked with his partner and a professor at a Greek university to design the system. Finally, they formed a company called TOBEA to build and sell the systems.
The company worked hard to make the system simple enough to be put in place and easy to run.A wooden walkway allows wheelchair users to reach the Seatrac. The system uses solar (太阳能的) power. It doesn't require outside power, and can continue to run even if the electricity goes out.The Seatrac system can easily be packed up and stored when the swimming season ends.
The Seatrac system is being used at over 220 beaches in Greece, Cypris, Italy, and Latvia.TOBEA hopes to offer Seatrac in other countries.TOBEA has created a website showing where beaches with these special services can be found. The Greek government hopes that Seatrac will help attract more tourists to the country.
12.What is Seatrac able to do
A.Watch out of the disabled in the sea.
B.Choose the suitable beach for the disabled.
C.Help the disabled get in and out of the sea safely.
D.Enable the disabled to move around the beach freely.

Today it is common to see people who walk about with colored wires hanging from their ears wherever they go.They move about in their personal bubbles, sometimes unaware of what's happening around them.__16__ Outside life is shut out.So are you one of “them”?
For me, walking around in my own personal bubble is perfect.__17__ What's even better, wearing earphones seems to give a signal to people which says, “I'm not available for chatting at the moment!”
Suppose, you're at work and about to make an incredible breakthrough, but a colleague suddenly turns up.At this precise moment, the slightest disturbance would break your concentration.__18__ Once again, those wires hanging from your ears would be sure to give that “Go away!” signal.
__19__ It's probably part of the growing up stage when they just want to ignore their whole family. While their mothers give them lectures about why they should do their homework, they can just turn up the volume on their music player, smile, and say “Yes, Mum.” Problem solved.
Pretty soon, not only will we have pretty colored wires hanging from our ears, but also our brains will be directly plugged into some new high tech instruments. We'll be in a virtual world, communicating with everyone else, or choosing not to, as we like.In this world, we will all be permanently plugged in.__20__ And they are changing our social habits along the way.
In the end, there is a thin line between using technology as a tool for making life better and being a slave to it! It's so strange — suddenly, I don't feel like wearing my earphones anymore.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Back in the early 1980s, the idea of home computers was catching on.I wasn't keen on getting one.Somehow, I evolved and have owned several computers over the years. Some days, I loved my computer, but more often than not, I hated it.I didn't grow up with them, and they were a challenge to my mental health.Dealing with modern technology was my introduction to stress, and I know who to blame: my children.
They weren't satisfied that their dad and I finally bought a computer and learned to send emails. We were quite happy with that, but next came a cellphone. Then just talking on the phone was not acceptable; they insisted we learn to text as well.We couldn't get a break.
I remember well the night that a social app became very popular around here. Those kids of ours were determined to set up a joint account for us.It took some convincing. We felt no guilt for grating on (激怒) their nerves considering the drama they'd sometimes created for us during their teenage years.A little payback wouldn't hurt those two.
More recently, my husband and I were forced into getting rid of our flip phones and getting smartphones.I will admit that I progressed into appreciating mine.I liked speaking to Siri and finding out what I needed to know in an instant.I enjoyed having Internet access everywhere I went.I felt a sense of accomplishment; my husband — not so much.To this day, he would happily take back his flip phone.
Last Christmas, our children surprised us with yet another popular form of technology — Alexa. The girls took our smartphones in hand and got us programmed. Before we fully understood what was happening, we could tell Alexa to turn our lamp on or off, and she would. To be honest, we were a bit annoyed at having to learn how to use yet another device, but we decided to keep it.We mastered turning the lamp on and off, and once again I got the hang of it sooner than my husband did.I became his Alexa coach.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式作答。
One night, Alexa did not turn on the lamp when I gave the command.

We should thank our children and grandchildren.

参考范文:
An Unforgettable Tech Exploration Tour
Last weekend I participated in a fabulous tech exploration tour in the City Science Museum organized by our school.
It kicked off with an exhibition of the history of Chinese science, unfolding the awe striking wisdom behind. What followed was a hands on experience, which uncovered the secrets of science. With a lecture on the prospect of science, the tour was brought to an end.Not only did the tour instill me with a sense of pride in our scientific advances, but it also planted in my heart a seed of scientific exploration.
Anybody who shares the same feeling Anticipating your comments!
第二节
参考范文:
One night, Alexa did not turn on the lamp when I gave the command.I tried to say “Turn on the light” to it countless times, but Alexa didn't work.“New technologies are always unreliable,” my husband complained.I searched the Internet and immediately found the reason why Alexa couldn't work.I just needed to tell Alexa to set the light color to white or whatever color I wanted, and then it would turn on the light. Then Alexa turned on the light itself.
We should thank our children and grandchildren. It was our children and grandchildren that taught us to use technology so that I could find a solution on the Internet by myself.Without them, our life is always invariable and boring. Our children and grandchildren “force” us to accept and use technology, which seems to put us under pressure. However, the fact is that our children and grandchildren let us really accept and use technology to make our life more convenient.
