Further thinking
I have been helping elderly people in my community. Every Sunday, I visit an elderly woman who lives alone and help her with the house cleaning. Sometimes I read newspapers to her because her eyesight is poor. It makes me happy to see her smile./Last winter, I took part in a clothing donation for homeless people. My classmates and I collected warm clothes from our neighbours and sorted them by size. We donated over 100 pieces to a local shelter. It was meaningful to know we could help others stay warm in cold weather.

“elderly adj. 年级较大的，上了年纪的”，elderly与old都可表示“年老的”，但elderly语气更礼貌、尊重，多用于正式或关怀语境。the + 形容词的结构，表 “一类人”，如the elderly（老年人），the disabled (残疾人)等，属于复数概念，做主语时，谓语动词要用复数形式。
