“elderly adj. 年级较大的,上了年纪的”,elderly与old都可表示“年老的”,但elderly语气更礼貌、尊重,多用于正式或关怀语境。the + 形容词的结构,表 “一类人”,如the elderly(老年人),the disabled (残疾人)等,属于复数概念,做主语时,谓语动词要用复数形式。
