Rohan walked toward Mrs. Sharma’s desk, hands sweating slightly. “Mrs. Sharma, I... I found a mistake in my
paper.” He pointed to Question 7, his eyes fixed on the paper. “This answer is wrong, but you gave me full marks. I
should only get 93.” The classroom fell silent for a moment. Mrs. Sharma examined the paper carefully, and then
looked up at him with surprise. “You’re right, Rohan. I missed this error.” She adjusted the score on his paper,
writing 93 instead of 95. “I’m proud of you, Rohan,” she said softly, her eyes warm with approval.
Back at his seat with the corrected paper, Rohan was surprised by his classmates’ reaction. Instead of feeling
sorry for him, Aarav clapped him on the shoulder, and other students nodded in admiration, some even whispering
words of praise. The 93 points now felt heavier yet lighter — though he’d given up the top spot, his heart was at
peace. Mrs. Sharma praised his honesty in front of the whole class, calling it “the most valuable score”. Rohan
realized that true success isn’t measured by ranks or scores. It’s the integrity to admit mistakes, and he gained far
more precious self - respect that day.

W: I can’t believe there’s such a market! The food is amazing, and the handmade toys are so cute. Look at this gift
I bought from that small shop.
M: Yeah, it’s like walking through a museum.
Text 2
W: How much is your phone bill each month
M: Well, I’m on a family plan including unlimited calls, texts and data. But the final amount changes a little every
month because of extra taxes and service fees. Usually around 50 dollars, I’d say.
Text 3
W: The shops are charging for those special bags for take - away food now to cut down on waste.
M: I get they’re trying to be green, but paying extra just for that Shouldn’t it be included
W: Yeah. It feels like they’re just using “going green” as a reason to charge us more.
Text 4
M: Julia, there’s a package for you.
W: For me I didn’t order anything.
M: Looks like a cool jacket. Is it for a party
W: No, it’s for the class trip next week. I ordered it last Sunday and forgot.
Text 5
M: Hey, are you inviting Chloe to the party
W: I tried, but she’s on a trip to Barcelona right now.
M: How about her roommate Emma
W: She went there too, but their friend Sophia should be around this weekend.
Text 6
W: Tom, some friends and I are planning a beach clean - up this Saturday. Would you like to come along
M: That sounds worthwhile. What will we be doing exactly, Lucy
W: We’ll walk along the shore, picking up plastic, bottles, and any other trash we find.
M: And what happens to all the trash afterwards
W: The university art department will use it for a special project. We’ll meet at 7:30 a.m. at the downtown train
station.
M: That’s quite early, but it’s for a good cause and sounds interesting. Okay, I’m in.
Text 7
W: Hello, Sunset Coast Hotel. How can I help you
M: Hi, I’m looking to book a room.
W: What date are you arriving And the number of guests
M: Two people check in on October 5th, and we’ll stay for two nights.
W: Got it. Would you like two separate rooms, or one room with two beds
M: One room with two beds.
W: Alright. We do have some rooms with an ocean view available. Interested in one of those
M: Yes, that sounds great. How much is that per night
W: That’s $230 per night. Would you like me to go ahead and book that for you
M: Yes, please.
Text 8
W: Thanks for taking the time to chat with me, Ronald. I really appreciate it.
M: My pleasure, Kristal. This is much easier than running the school science club!
W: So, who would you say is your biggest inspiration for this job
M: It’s Mr. Wilson, my previous physics teacher from tenth grade.
W: How did you two first meet
M: Well, I was trying to fix a model rocket at our school lab. As he saw me having trouble, he sat down and slowly
explained how it all worked — just using a pen and paper.
W: What made that moment so special
M: It was how excited he was to teach me. I could feel he really loved sharing what he knew.
W: And now you lead the whole science club like him.
M: Yes. I always try to share that same kind of excitement with others. It feels like passing something good along.
Text 9
M: Did you watch the special program on environmental protection last night
W: No, I missed it. What was it about
M: It focused on the problem of plastic waste and possible solutions.
W: Sounds interesting. What did they say
M: Well, first the host showed how plastic pollution is affecting marine life. Then two experts gave their
suggestions on how to reduce plastic waste.
W: What were their ideas
M: One expert suggested developing environmentally friendly materials to replace traditional plastics.
W: That might work, but are these materials really environmentally friendly I heard some of them don’t break
down as easily as claimed.
M: You’re right. The program also mentioned that. The other expert proposed improving recycling systems and
educating the public about proper recycling.
W: That seems more practical. But doesn’t it require a lot of effort from both the government and individuals
M: Exactly. Each solution has its strengths and weaknesses. It looks like we need a combination of approaches.

Hello, everyone! I want to tell you about something cool I just found out. You know how chemistry class can
feel a bit... abstract sometimes Well, Mr. Davis is starting a new workshop next term called “Chemistry in the
Kitchen”.
The whole idea is to learn real science by doing everyday things, like baking or cooking. Basically, we get to
do interesting experiments. If your experiment works, you get to eat it. It’s perfect for anyone who’s curious, and
you definitely don’t need to be excellent in science. It’s aimed at beginners. Just be prepared for some mess — it
comes with experimenting in the kitchen, but it’s worth it! The workshop will meet every Thursday after school,
from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., starting on September 10th. I’m really thinking about signing up. It sounds like a
much more delicious way to learn than just reading a textbook.
So, if you’re interested in food, science, or just want to try something new, maybe check it out with me. We
could go together. Anyway, that’s my little announcement. Let me know if you want to join too!2026年 4月酒泉市高三年级调研考试

Four Free Virtual Libraries in the World
Traditionally, library services have been of vital importance to the educational process of the student
community. In digital environments, this is no different. Today more than ever, free virtual libraries are necessary.
InfoBooks
“Read, Learn, Grow” is the slogan of the digital library. It is divided into three sections. The first called “Best
books to read” focuses on a special collection of various topics classified by famous authors. The second is “Free
books and texts”, where you will find public domain literature that you can download. The third section contains
resources to improve your reading.
Bartleby
It is considered an electronic archive (档案 ) of both complete classic works and out-of-copyright fiction,
nonfiction, and poetry writings, offering recent material as well. It also provides question and answer services, an
essay writing tool, and online tutorials for those working on research projects and report writing.
Project Gutenberg
It is a site that has available sixty thousand “free” books that are free of copyright so to speak, since the rights
according to certain laws have expired (过期) in this case. That is why they can be downloaded with total peace of
mind. It is considered the world’s first and oldest digital library that drives the creation and distribution of ebooks.
World Digital Library
Its objective is to increase the variety of cultural content on the web and provide scholarly resources to
educators, researchers and the general public. It makes available an extensive compilation (汇编 ) of rare books,

The German Bundestag (联邦议院) and U. S. Department of State are proud to recognize Joey DiPalma as the
Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) U. S. Participant of the Month for January 2026! Joey, a CBYX
Vocational program participant from Carrollton, Texas, was recruited (招募) by Nacel Open Door and is hosted by
the Kn pfles family in Berlin, Germany.
Joey first learned about CBYX from his classmates at school, and his German teacher encouraged him to
apply. Although he had not planned to study abroad, Joey recognized that opportunities like CBYX are rare, so he
decided to apply. CBYX became the beginning of a life-changing journey filled with adventure and personal
growth.
Before his exchange year, Joey lacked confidence in speaking German. However, once he joined the program,
he persisted in his language studies and fully immersed (沉浸 ) himself in his host community. He actively
participated in his political debate class and engaged in community events. Through these efforts, Joey not only
practiced his German but also built connections with people across generations and backgrounds.
His teacher in Germany describes him as kindhearted and positive, noting that Joey’s friendly manner quickly
made him a valued member of the group. As Joey became more involved in his host community, he reached a
significant milestone: when speaking with locals, he realized they often could not tell he was American,
highlighting his remarkable progress in German.
Joey has made seeking out new opportunities a key theme of his time in Germany. From the beginning, he
challenged himself to leave his comfort zone and try new activities, such as joining the basketball team and
learning kickboxing. He has also made a positive impact through volunteer work, including assisting elderly
community members move, and supporting the music and fine arts program at a nearby school.
Joey encourages future participants to embrace every opportunity, invest fully in their exchange, and
remember: “CBYX is not just a year abroad. It is a year for trying new things, building lifelong relationships,
becoming almost fluent in German, and learning how to be a true adult.”
24. What led Joey to apply for the CBYX program
A. His classmates’ strong recommendation.
B. His plan to study abroad in advance.
C. The encouragement from his host family.
D. His recognition of the rare opportunity.
25. What contributed most to Joey’s great progress in German
A. Formal classroom training. B. Confidence in language learning.
C. Constant practice and full engagement. D. Learning from the private tutors.
26. Which of the following words can best describe Joey
A. Grateful and reflective. B. Creative and dedicated.
C. Determined and independent. D. Optimistic and humorous.
27. What’s the author’s main purpose of writing the text
A. To praise a student’s personal growth.
B. To promote a study abroad program.
C. To encourage cross-cultural exchange.
D. To show how to learn a foreign language.

What happens when humans rely too much on artificial intelligence (AI) to write for them A new study by
researchers from a coalition (联盟) of West Coast universities suggests that heavy use of AI writing tools may not
just change how people write, but also what they say and how they think.
The research evaluation used responses from 100 participants who had to write essays about the relationship
between money and happiness. Researchers discovered that study participants who depended on large language
models (LLMs) for their work produced results which showed major differences from the outcomes of those who
used no artificial intelligence. Participants who depended heavily on AI were 69% more likely to give neutral
answers compared to others. People who created written work without AI tools showed higher degrees of personal
judgement than those who used AI tools.
The research demonstrated that AI-generated content showed more formal style while it lacked emotional
depth. The results which University of Washington computer science professor Natasha Jaques studied demonstrate
an underlying issue that extends beyond the current findings. The LLMs create a force which drives essay writing
away from any standard which a human writer would create, according to her observation that she used to describe
the effect which makes writing dull.
Heavy AI users produced essays which were less personal because they used general expressions instead of
specific personal details. Many participants also admitted their work felt less creative and less like their own voice,
even though their satisfaction with the final output remained similar.
Researchers observed that AI editing tools produce larger editing results than human editors. AI systems
perform extensive text rewrites which change original text meaning instead of making minor text corrections.
The discovery establishes fundamental research enquiries regarding artificial intelligence’s future impact on
human communication and artistic expression. According to Florida State University Computational Linguistics
Professor Thomas Juzek, the study demonstrates how AI tools provide more capabilities than basic grammar
assessment.
28. How were heavy AI users different from non-AI users in their writing
A. They held clearer subjective judgments in content.
B. Their works contained richer emotional messages.
C. Their writings lacked individual characteristics.
D. They preferred detailed and personal descriptions.
29. What is Natasha Jaques’ attitude toward LLMs
A. Appreciative. B. Concerned. C. Indifferent. D. Confused.
30. What do we know about AI editing tools from the text
A. They may change writers’ original ideas.
B. They mainly focus on small grammar mistakes.
C. They are not as professional as human editors.
D. They rarely make large-scale revisions to articles.
31. Which of the following statements would Juze k agree with
A. AI reduces research workload. B. Human editing remains irreplaceable.
C. Neutral writing benefits readers. D. AI tools have more potential functions.
D
Steering (转向) a wheelchair to the left or right can be a tough, inefficient process, in that you have to brake
with one back wheel while pushing harder on the other. Not only does doing so use up a large amount of energy, it
also places a lot of stress on the user’s shoulders, arms and hands.
That’s where a clever new wheelchair comes in, which can address that problem in a brilliant way, by using a
moveable backrest (座椅靠背) to steer. The new wheelchair is being developed by Reto Togni and Stefan Villiger,
both of whom are research assistants at ETH Zurich’s Laboratory for Movement Biomechanics.
The chair’s user is able to tilt (倾斜) its backrest to the left or right simply by leaning their body appropriately.
A purely mechanical linkage system responds by turning the front wheels into the target direction, and keeping
them from getting away from that direction. It feels even better that the system left the user’s arms free, so one arm
could be used to move the chair forward while the other could be used to hold a smartphone, a coffee cup or
something else.
In a test of the technology, the scientists had 29 volunteers make six constant runs through an obstacle course,
first in a regular wheelchair and then in the new one. Sensors in the back drive wheels of both chairs showed that
the participants used considerably less energy when using the backrest-controlled wheelchair. It was even found
that when simply moving straight forward, the new chair allowed the participants to go faster than they could in the
traditional chair, but with less effort. “There are so many moments when we’re practically swept off our feet by the
unexpected advantages it offers,” says Togni.
Togni and Villiger are now commercializing their chair through ETH Zurich spinoff company Versive. They
hope to have a product on the market by mid-2027.
32. What is the key issue addressed by the new wheelchair design
A. The inability to move straight forward.
B. The difficulty of anticipating a sharp turn.
C. The great energy consumption during steering.
D. The complexity of the mechanical linkage system.
33. How did the scientists conduct the research
A. By interviewing the participants.
B. By riding the new wheelchair in person.
C. By tracking the course of the new wheelchair.
D. By making comparison test on the new design and the regular one.
34. What does the phrase “swept off our feet” mean in paragraph 4
A. Puzzled. B. Shocked. C. Suspected. D. Criticised.
35. What is the best title of the text
A. Versive Company Is to Launch a New Wheelchair Soon
B. Innovative Wheelchair Design Reduces Energy Consumption
C. A New Approach to Make Wheelchair Move Forward Easily
D. A New Technique Meets the Urgent Demand of the Disabled

As adulthood approaches, we need to develop independence in every aspect of our lives so that we can earn a li
ving, develop a career, be emotionally mature, and form a personal philosophy. Outlined here are four reasons why
achieving independence is essential.
Being independent is a boost to your confidence.
36 The more independent you are, the more confident you will become. Having confidence gives you a pos
itive outlook on life. You are going to be willing to do things on your own, without needing support or approval fro
m others.
37
Self-reliance is a significant element in being an independent person. When you can make decisions for yoursel
f without relying on others to approve your choice, you are acting independently. People who rely heavily on others
for support are often seen as needy and demanding. 38
You can get freedom through financial independence.
Nothing compares to receiving that first pay packet and knowing that at last, you can begin to pay your way in
the world. Having financial independence is a fantastic feeling. 39 Knowing you are in control of your income a
nd spending without referring to anyone else reduces stress and improves your feeling of contentedness.
Independence leads to broader horizons.
Once you can function as an independent person without restrictions placed on you by others, you can broaden
your horizons. You will be able to take trips to exotic (异国的) destinations, meet people with different social and
moral beliefs, and gain more extensive knowledge. 40 It might affect the way you approach decision-making, o
r, on a simpler level, change your attitude to food.
A. You will not need to rely on others.
B. Stress is reduced, and we become happier.
C. Being independent makes you a better decision-maker.
D. These are not attractive features in someone’s personality.
E. It means that you don’t have to depend on others to pay for you.
F. In turn, this will change how you view many aspects of your life.
G. Every life coach stresses the importance of confidence when you seek success in life.

In the cool, misty morning air around the Wudang Mountains in Hubei province, a tall German man dressed in
black robes (长袍 ) slowly shifts his weight from one leg to the other at the Wudang International Martial Arts
Exchange Center.
For Thomas Weib, a 53-year-old engineer, tai chi has become 56 daily routine that keeps his body and
mind in balance. “Tai chi 57 (movement) look slow, but that’s to help us 58 (precise) control our posture

While tai chi is known for improving physical fitness, many say its real power 61 (lie) in its philosophy.
Louis Dang, a 35-year-old from the United States, first tried tai chi in Australia. What began as 62 (curious)

Rohan was not the kind of student who usually ranked first in class. He worked hard, completed his
assignments on time, and respected his teachers, but there was always someone who scored slightly higher. He
never complained, though. His father often reminded him, “Marks matter, but honesty matters more.” Rohan
believed that — or so he thought.
Then came the day when the math exam results were announced. The classroom buzzed with nervous
whispers. Some students prayed silently, while others tapped their pencils anxiously. When Mrs. Sharma began
calling out names, Rohan’s heart raced. He had studied extremely hard and hoped for a satisfying score.
“Rohan,” Mrs. Sharma called. He stepped forward and took his paper with trembling hands. Glancing at the
top, he froze: 95 out of 100 — the highest score he had ever achieved. His best friend Aarav, who usually topped
the class, had only scored 93. Disbelief washed over him.
“Well done, Rohan! You deserve it,” Aarav smiled sincerely. Rohan forced a smile, yet he felt uneasy.
Checking his paper carefully, he spotted a careless calculation mistake in Question 7. He clearly remembered being
unsure about that answer. But Mrs. Sharma had given him full marks.
His fingers tightened around the paper. “No one will notice,” a small voice inside him whispered. “Just two
points. You worked hard anyway.” Another voice insisted, “But it’s wrong.”
If he told the truth, his marks would drop to 93 and he would lose the first place. For a moment, he imagined
going home and showing his parents the 95. They would be so proud. His father might even bring sweets to
celebrate. But his heart felt heavy.
He recalled a time when his father had returned extra change that a shopkeeper had given him by mistake.
“Son,” he told Rohan that day, “wealth gained without honesty never brings peace.”
Rohan stared at his exam paper again. The number “95” no longer brought him excitement, only guilt. Slowly,
he rose, legs trembling.
