Warm-up & Error Diagnosis (5 minutes) Present 3 typical exam-style questions focusing on predicate verbs, non-finite verbs and word formation. Ask students to finish independently, then check answers and analyze common mistakes. Lead in the topic: Today we will learn a fixed, step-by-step method for verb questions in grammar filling. 2. Presentation of Core Steps (12 minutes) Step 1: Identify sentence structure If there is no predicate verb in the clause → use a finite verb. If a predicate verb already exists (without a conjunction) → use a non-finite verb or word conversion. Step 2: For finite verbs 1.Determine tense according to time markers. 2.Judge voice (active or passive). 3.Check subject-verb agreement. Step 3: For non-finite verbs to do: purpose, future, fixed collocations doing: active, progressive, cause done: passive, completed Step 4: Word formation Change verb to noun, adjective or adverb when necessary. Example Analysis (10 minutes) 1.Analyze 2 real exam questions about predicate verbs (tense & voice). 2.Explain 2 questions about non-finite verbs as adverbial or attribute. 3.Illustrate 1 question about verb-to-noun / verb-to-adjective conversion. For each question, explain strictly following the four-step method. 4. In-class Timed Practice (8 minutes) 1.Students complete 6 selected verb exercises within limited time. 2.Require students to briefly annotate beside each answer: predicate / non-finite / word formation tense, voice or non-finite form 5. Immediate Feedback & Error Correction (7 minutes) 6. Summary & Homework Assignment (3 minutes) Conclude the four-step method for verb questions. Assign homework: Finish 10 specialized verb exercises. Write down brief reasoning for each answer. Review key irregular verbs.
