Spreading 34 miles down the west coast of central Italy, the Amalfi Coast is
dotted with 500-foot-tall cliffs (悬崖 ) and 100 beaches, as well as 13 amazing
multicoloured seaside towns.
How to Save Money in this UNESCO World Heritage Site
*Avoid a summer visit. Summer is the busy season for the Amalfi Coast, and
rates are high during this time. Travelers from home and abroad flood to the Amalfi
Coast during July and August, resulting in traffic slowdowns, packed beaches and
seriously crowded streets. Visit it in spring and fall, when crowds are largely gone
and temperatures are the most comfortable.
*Take the bus. Though the best way to get around the Amalfi Coast is by car,
the cost of rentals, taxis and private cars adds up fast. The Sita bus services the
whole of the Amalfi Coast and offers rates as low as 2.20 euros.
*Ride the ferry. Boat tours in the Amalfi Coast are too expensive for most
people, but if you take the ferry, which is at most 20 euros for a one-way journey,
you could save a lot.
What You Need to Know
*Beaches are different here. Due to the geography of the coast, beaches are
made up of pebbles (卵石) instead of sand. Make sure to bring the proper footwear.
*Prepare to hike. The seaside towns are built into cliffs and main streets unable
to accommodate cars. So, the best way to get around them is on foot.
21. For what reason should tourists avoid visiting the Amalfi coast in summer
A. High costs. B. Hot weather. C. Empty streets. D. Poor service.
22. What makes Amalfi beaches unique
A. Their location. B. Their amount.
C. Their history. D. Their composition.
23. What is the best way to get around the seaside towns
A. Boating. B. Driving. C. Walking. D. Bicycling.

On the morning of November 13, a sweet violin tune (曲调) flowed along the
Qingdao seashore, blending (融合) perfectly with the ocean waves. The man playing
the violin is Petar Kutin, a Bulgarian teaching music at Yew Chung International
School of Qingdao.
For Kutin, who has been fully trained in Western music, Chinese music holds a
special attraction. He skillfully unites Chinese and Western musical factors and
works with Chinese musicians to create original pieces. In one of his latest works,
Kutin blends his violin with the erhu, along with the sounds of birds and frogs,
creating a harmonious and moving composition.
“I believe that music is an unbelievably powerful language that brings people
together,” Kutin said. At Yew Chung International School of Qingdao, this philosophy
comes to life. To help his students with different backgrounds overcome cultural
shock and quickly adapt to the Chinese environment, Kutin arranges music pieces
customized to their abilities. “When students perform together, it promotes
teamwork and allows them to express both their cultural identity and individuality.
Playing together builds confidence, happiness, and a sense of belonging. Music truly
connects the performers.” Kutin said.
Kutin also uses music to deliver meaningful messages to his students. He wrote
the words of a song about frugality together with the students, explaining what
frugality means—reusing items instead of throwing them unnecessarily, avoiding
waste. They turned this message into a song and then into a music video, which they
play almost every week.
In addition to his work at school, Kutin composes music for social causes. He
has created several pieces to help people suffering from anxiety relax and find
comfort.
“Music is continuously developing, and musicians must keep learning to grow,”
he said. With a love for creating and sharing, Kutin aims to promote deeper
connections between people and cultures, contributing to a more harmonious and
lively future through music.
24. What do we know about Kutin
A. He mixed different parts in music.
B. He received music education in China.

Scammers (骗子 ) are becoming tricky, turning to the Internet to better cheat
their targets out of money. This includes using deep fakes (冒充者 ) to present
themselves as someone else. Now, AI is being used in the fightback with Telecom
Company O2 applying an AI granny in the action.
Daisy, an AI grandma created by British Telecom Company O2 as the cleverest
scam fighter, is a new AI tool with the voice of a grandmother designed to talk with
scammers and “waste as much of their time as possible”. Basically, she rambles on
(絮叨) about anything and everything to keep them away from real people.
While Daisy may sound like a human, she is actually an AI large language
model with the character application of a grandma. The company worked with
known scam artists to train Daisy and used a method called Number Seeding to get
Daisy’s phone number added to a list of online “mugs lists”—lists used by
scammers targeting UK users. She functions by listening to the scammers and
translating their voice to text. The AI then searches its large database to find a
suitable reply, based on the specific scam training she’s received, and translates that
text answer to speech for Daisy to reply. All this happens in seconds with no
additional input needed.
The goal is to keep the scammer on the phone for as long as possible by
trapping them in a lifelike, but lengthy conversation. “Daisy is turning the tables on
scammers—outsmarting them at their own pitiless game simply by keeping them on
the line,” Murray Mackenzie, Director of Fraud at O2, explained.
O2 also hopes to draw attention to scams by warning users to be careful about
who they may be speaking to. “No matter how good someone on the other end of the
phone may be, they aren’t always who you think they are,” Murray said. “In terms
of tips and tricks, whether you’re shopping online, reviewing your emails, or
receiving an out-of-the-blue phone call, it’s important to always remain watchful.”

For Australian cow farmer Jody Brown, the most frightening evidence of
drought is the silence. Trees stand still, the singing of birds gone.
The continuous dryness means her cows have decreased to around 400, down
from 1,100 in 2002, and at times there have been no animals on the land at all. The
native grasses, once green, have changed into gray. According to United Nations’
report, global produce could fall about 30% because of climate change, with food
supply in great demand in the coming years. The world is facing a new age of
rapidly increasing food prices that could push almost 2 billion more people into
hunger in a worst-case climate disaster.
Facing the frightening predictions, farmers have begun to adapt. On Brown’s
farm, she’s experimenting with regenerative-farming practices better suited to
drought. She’s exploring replacements to traditional methods that don’t push the
land as hard. Meanwhile many agrichemical (农业化学品) companies are developing
new varieties for vegetables, like cabbages that are stronger to extreme climate.
Across the globe, farmers are changing crops(庄稼)and improving watering.
Lucas Oliveira in Brazil is pulling out half his coffee trees to plant corn and
soybeans instead. He is being forced to change course after coffee crops suffered
from drought and then an extreme cold. With drought hitting California, Fritz Durst
is working to trap water. He’s boarded up pipes to hold the rain that does fall. Durst
will also plant cover crops, which can help enrich the earth and stop the water from
washing the earth away. One of the biggest challenges for farmers is that there is no
access for them to funds that would be extremely important to undertake the kind of
great change at present.
“If you have to deal with millions of farmers around the world, you have to
team up with others. That’s a huge task,” said Monika Zurek, senior researcher at
University of Oxford’s Environmental Change Institute.

Should Mobile Phones be used in Education
The widespread use of mobile phones has changed how we communicate daily,
but their place in education is still a matter of debate. Some feels mobile phones can
serve as a useful tool for learning. 36______________ Rather than listening to the
teachers carefully in class, they use their devices (设备) to text, play games, watch
videos or even try to cheat by taking photos of tests.
37______________ According to a survey, some students keep checking their
phones, texting or going on social media. Some students even spend up to 12 hours
daily on their mobile phones. As a result, they usually fall asleep in class.
Educators are exploring ways to monitor (监控) students to use mobile phone
effectively. For example, France has made a law that doesn’t allow students under
15 to use mobile phones in school. Schools have begun to use special boxes to keep
students’ phones during school time. 38______________ The idea of limiting
mobile phone use isn’t just happening in a few schools. Over 30 schools in France
have put some kind of limit on mobile phone use this year or last year, with different
areas making their own rules about phones.
39______________ The teachers in these schools believe that students have

grown up with mobile phones. They think it’s their job to teach students how to use
mobile phones the right way as a learning tool. They also teach about how to use
phones properly, including how to be responsible with social media and the Internet.
40______________ In their eye, the technology has already existed, so schools
should use it to help students and not fear it.
A. In this way they won’t be encouraged to use them.
B. It’s impossible that mobile phones can destroy a child.
C. They regard it as part of changing education for children.
