Do you like traditional Chinese operas Among all traditional Chinese operas, the facial mask (脸谱) in Beijing Opera is popular around the world. Different colours are used to show different roles, but at first, only three colours were used: red, white and black. Here are the meanings of them.
Red is generally used to show that a role is honest and loyal(忠诚的). In fact, the colour red was just to show what a person looks like in the beginning. Because many roles use red and black to show they’re very brave and honest, red gradually has another meaning. An example of “red full face” is Guan Yu, known for his loyalty to Liu Bei.
The role with the white face is bad in human nature. This kind of roles includes Cao Cao in the time of the Three Kingdoms, and Qin Hui, who put the national hero Yue Fei to death. The black mask shows either a rude and brave person or a fair and selfless one. Li Kui of Water Margin, and Bao Zheng are of this kind.
Later, other colours are gradually added to them, such as yellow standing for bravery, blue for someone with a strong personality. People can clearly identify the difference through these colours.
Nowadays, more and more young people like to know Beijing Opera. Some schools even start to teach Beijing Opera. And more and more people know that different colours mean different things. It is a good way to study and spread our traditional culture.

The sun hung low, brushing gold over the empty area. The air buzzed (喧闹)—not with insects, but with voices, cameras, and the weight of something about to begin.
Roy s heart beat like a drum. He looked out at the people gathering for the pancake house ground-breaking ceremony (仪式). Behind him stood the company men and the reporters. And under his feet—hidden underground—were the tiny burrows (洞穴) of the owls.
No sign marked them. No fence protected them. They asked nothing, made no sound, yet now heavy machines waited, ready to destroy (破坏) their living area.
He thought of Mullet Fingers, the wild boy who cared about animals more than himself. He thought of brave Beatrice who helped even when it was hard. Roy had tried to stay out of trouble. He liked quiet. But now, staying quiet didn t feel right.
He stepped up to the microphone (话筒).
“Excuse me,” he said, voice shaking. “Before you dig…you should know the truth.”
The crowd (人群) grew quiet.
“There are owls living here,” Roy said. “They re small. They re scared. And if you build here, you ll destroy their homes.”
Someone in the crowd laughed. A reporter asked, “How do you know that ”
“Because I saw them. I stood right there and watched them. They live here. They belong here. And they matter.”
The manager stepped forward, “This is not your business, kid.”
Roy turned to face him. His fear turned into something else—strength.
“It s my business. It s everyone s business. We can t just destroy what we don t see. Progress should not come at the cost of wonder,” he said.
His hands stopped shaking. People in the crowd began whispering. One mother held her child s hand. A teacher nodded. Even the manager looked uncertain.

Libraries around the world still keep old books hundreds of years old. But will we be able to read today's digital (数字的) books in hundreds of years Librarians are worried. Even now, we can't open some files (文件) from 20 or 25 years ago. Will our digital works be lost in a digital black hole Will we face the loss of valuable information
Technology is changing fast. Old ways of keeping information are gone now, or they are no longer supported by new technology For example, many people used floppy discs (软盘) to save files years ago, but today few machines can open them. Also, millions of songs and music pieces were saved on tapes or CDs, but now most old music players no longer work. Another problem is that websites often change or close down, and all the information on them can fall into the digital black hole.
Books, however, are quite easy to keep. We don't need special tools, or technology to read them. If you keep them in a dry and safe place, they will stay safe for a long time. Li Shizhen's great medical book Ben Cao Gang Mu came out in 1593. Amazingly, three copies from the first printing still survive today. That's not bad for a book more than 400 years old.
Today, to some researchers, printed books remain a safe way to keep information. In 2014, a professional group began to raise money to print a famous online encyclopedia into1,000 books. This would make sure that even if digital technology fails, the knowledge can still be kept.
For now, when it comes to storing information, printed copies seem to be the safest choice. However, future technology might develop and provide new ways to solve the problem of digital black hole. Time will tell.
42.What happens if out digital works fall into a digital black hole
A. They are carefully kept. B. They cannot be understood.
C. They cannot be read or reached. D. They are saved in a wrong place.
43.What is paragraph 2 mainly about
A. How music players are developing.
B. How technology is changing over time.
C. Why old machines are no longer used today.
D. Why technology may cause information loss.
44.Why does the writer mention Ben Cao Gang Mu
A. To discuss why this book is still important.
B. To show printed books can last for a long time.
C. To explain how easy it is to keep printed books.
D. To tell when the earliest printed book came out.
45.What would the writer most probably agree with
A. Libraries should keep more digital books.
B. Digital books are less valuable than printed ones.
C. Technology will soon solve the problem of digital black hole.
D. Technology is still looking for better ways to keep information.

Fan Licai, a woman in Zhuliangzhuang Village, Lianyungang City of Jiangsu Province, has a special love for straw rain capes. It is said that she is the only one still making straw rain capes for money in Ganyu District. In fact, a straw rain cape is still hanging on her outdoor wall for sale.
The woman learned the skill when she was 12. When she was young, she could make two capes in three days and make a decent (体面的) living for her family. Now her children ask her not to make capes any more. They think she should enjoy her free time. However, she still continues to make a living by making capes.
Making a straw rain cape needs 4 kilograms of straw, and Fan now needs 4—5 days to finish a single cape. Usually each cape can get 120 yuan, and making a dozen (十二个) of capes in one year can support her and her husband’s life. Some people buy the cape for car repairing. But the demand (需求) has fallen. Life is full of ups and downs. Once I failed a crucial exam and felt extremely upset for days. Instead of drowning in sadness, I took a deep breath, and adjusted my study plan. This experience taught me the power of controlling emotions.
Here are two useful ways to manage our moods. First, take a 10-minute break to do something you love when you feel stressed. Second, write down your troubles in a diary, which helps you calm down and think clearly.
Dear friends, let’s learn to smile at the world. No matter what difficulties we face, be positive, encourage ourselves, and move forward bravely.
Thanks for your listening.
