I will never forget the moment I crossed the finish line of my first marathon in Detroit, Michigan. My legs wer
e on fire, my lungs felt like they would give out-but I had never felt more alive. To my astonishment, I went beyon
d my initial goal of 3 hours and 30 minutes with a final time of 03:15, placing third in my age division.
This stood not only as a personal victory but as a crucial change in the direction of my life.
I’ve been running since I was a young child. It began through the influence of my grandfather, who always pus
hed me to “run the hills” and “run the block” by his side. Among his words of wisdom, one instruction he often rep
eated was “just put one foot in front of the other.” Simple words, yet they left an indelible impression on me, one I
carried into both my running career and my life.
Running became my healing, my escape, and eventually my passion. I never had a coach or formal training pla
n-just a deep-rooted love for the rhythm of the run and an inner guide that always told me to keep going.
I decided to pursue marathon training at 22, though I did not know exactly what to expect. I knew I wanted to
push myself and see what I was capable of. My training was a combination of discipline and insight. I pushed my b
ody month after month and trusted the years of movement already settled into my muscles. When race day came, I
was nervous but ready.
My first marathon was more than a race-it was a true awakening. Now, I’m building something that helps othe
rs find their own finish-line moment, because I believe running can change your life, just like it changed mine.
24. What do we know about the author’s first marathon
A. It was a major failure. B. It was an effortless race.
C. It was a regretful event. D. It was a vital experience.
25. What does the underlined word “indelible” in paragraph 3 mean
A. Confusing. B. Painful. C. Long-lasting. D. Wide-spread.
26. What does running mean to the author according to the text
A. A competitive sport requiring professional coaching.
B. A spiritual support and a way to explore her potential.
C. A rigid training plan to build up her muscles memory.
D. A successful pursuit driven by pressure and ambition.
27. What does the author intend to convey through this text
A. The importance of having a supportive family member.
B. The value of discipline in achieving athletic success.
C. The excitement of participating in a competitive race.
D. The transformation that running brought to her life.

Killer whales in the coastal waters off Washington have been seen massaging each other by rubbing pieces of
kelp (海带) between their bodies. Researchers filmed the animals selecting and biting off the k elp into long, thin pi
eces, then placing one piece onto the back of another whale. The scientists think this might have a health or cleanlin
ess function, but they also believe they are a form of social bonding. The findings appear to be an example of tool u
se in whales, with the animals fashioning a piece of kelp and using it for a planned purpose.
During 12 days of studying a population of killer whales, the team recorded 30 times of kelp massage. “We se
e it multiple times per day,” said lead researcher Dr Weiss. This could be a marine version of behaviour seen in mo
nkeys, where animals spend hours picking through fur, cleaning and removing harmful insects. Physical touch in an
imals is important for building and maintaining social relationships, and killer whales are highly social animals.
The view from the air has provided new insight into underwater behaviour, including how the animals interact.
High-quality video showed that whales with rougher skin were more likely to engage in the behaviour, suggesting i
t may help with skin health. It is not yet clear whether this behaviour is unique to this group or more widespread am
ong other whale populations. However, scientists say the discovery is exciting, as these objects were being used in
a way never before reported in marine mammals.
The study of this threatened killer whale population was started by Dr Balcomb more than 50 years ago. Initial
ly, he wanted to examine the threats to their survival, particularly as the population was targeted for capture and sal
e to some marine parks. Long-term research on this population has revealed many insights into their social structur
e, and this new finding highlights the complexity of their society and the importance of protecting them.
28. What are the killer whales observed doing in paragraph 1
A. Using kelp to feed each other.
B. Shaping kelp to rub another whale.
C. Collecting kelp from the ocean floor.
D. Teaching young whales to clean with kelp.
29. What can be inferred about killer whales in comparison with monkeys
A. They use tools more often. B. They rely less on interaction.
C. They are physically far stronger. D. They show similar social behaviours.
30. Why do scientists consider the discovery exciting
A. It provides clear video evidence.
B. It suggests rubbing is common among whales.
C. It is the first report of such tool use in marine mammals.
D. It explains why whales with skin problems behave this way.
31. Which is the most suitable title for the text
A. Killer Whales Use Tools for Social Purposes
B. The Role of Food in Whales’ Communication
C. A Behaviour Observed in Killer Whales Hunting
D. How Killer Whales Adapt to Changes in the Ocean

Graphene (石墨烯) is based on carbon and is often described as a wonder material: it’s super strong, super lig
ht, and an excellent conductor of heat and electricity. It’s already widely used and promises to significantly improv
e consumer electronics in the future. However, producing graphene on a large scale remains difficult and expensiv
e, which has led researchers to explore alternative methods.
Led by a team from the University of New South Wales, the new research shows that the peanut shell has the
potential to boost graphene production, and in a way that’s cheaper and more eco-friendly than some traditional gra
phene making methods. Worldwide peanut production results in more than 10 million tons of waste piling up each
year. Key to the process is the natural material called lignin (木质素), which is packed with carbon. It was already
known to be present in peanut shells, but the researchers had to figure out the best way to process it.
The researchers first prepared the peanut shells through a controlled heating process to remove unwanted subst
ances. They then applied a technique known as flash heating, which uses electricity to raise the temperature to over
3,000°C within milliseconds. This rapid heating rearranges the structures of peanut shells. “That process is vital to
give us the best carbon-rich material to help ensure there are few imperfections in the final graphene and that it is in
deed just a single layer,” says Yeoh.
Although the peanut-shell-to-graphene line has been experimented with before, this study highlights how caref
ully controlling the starting material can significantly improve the resulting graphene quality. That’s not to say the
process is perfect yet, though. The resulting graphene material scores highly in terms of quality but is typically com
posed of a few graphene layers in a disordered way, and the technique could take three to four years to expand for l
arger use, the researchers note. Work to further refine the process from this lab-based proof of concept will continu
e, and researchers are now exploring whether similar methods could be applied to other materials such as coffee gro
unds or banana peels.
32. What is the main purpose of the first paragraph
A. To explain how graphene is produced.
B. To compare graphene with other materials.
C. To describe the history of graphene research.
D. To introduce graphene’s function and limitation.
33. What makes peanut shells suitable for graphene production
A. Their light weight nature. B. Their carbon content.
C. Their health-friendly feature. D. Their large yearly output.
34. What is the function of the flash heating
A. Structuring. B. Removing. C. Cleaning. D. Packing.
35. What is the author’s attitude toward the current research
A. Uninterested in its practical use.
B. Doubtful about its future value.
C. Positive but aware of its limitations.
D. Completely satisfied with its results.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
One warm morning in May, librarian Chen Wei was organizing the reading room at the City Art Museum whe
n something caught his attention. A sketchbook (素描簿) lay forgotten beneath a chair, its pages slightly fanned out
by the gentle wind. Chen picked it up carefully, and felt a sudden wave of sympathy. Someone must be anxiously s
earching for this, he thought. These drawings represent hours of creative effort and observation.
Back at his office, Chen opened the sketchbook with gentle hands. The pages revealed a remarkable journey: d
etailed pencil studies of sculptures, quick watercolor impressions of sunlight and so on. Yet nowhere in the book co
uld Chen find a name, phone number, or any contact information.
Determined to reunite the sketchbook with its creator, Chen photographed several standout pages and posted t
hem on the museum’s social media accounts, describing where the book had been discovered. The local community
responded enthusiastically, sharing the post thousands of times. However, after a few days of widespread circulatio
n, no one had come forward to claim the work. Chen began to worry that the artist might be a tourist who had alrea
dy returned home, or perhaps a student who had given up hope and started a new one.
Just as Chen prepared to create a physical display in the museum lobby (大厅), an email arrived in his inbox.
The subject line read: “You found my grandmother’s sketches.” The sender, a young woman named Lin Yue, expla
ined that her seventy-year-old grandmother had visited the museum the previous week from a neighboring provinc
e. The elderly woman, who had taken up drawing in retirement, had been overwhelmed by the loss. Lin described s
pecific sketches that matched the contents of the sketchbook perfectly. They arranged to meet in the museum lobby
three days later.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为 150 个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。
On that day, Chen waited in the museum lobby as promised.
Chen picked up his phone to update the museum’s social media page.
