第三节 书面表达 (范文)
A Cross-Cultural Experience I Had
Last month, our school held an International Culture Festival, and it was my most unforgettable cross-cultural experience.
I visited the Japan booth and tried to learn origami. At first, I couldn't make the paper crane correctly and felt a little frustrated. But a Japanese student patiently showed me step by step. She couldn't speak Chinese well, so we used gestures and simple English to communicate. Finally, I made my first paper crane! We both laughed and took a photo together.
This experience taught me that language is not the only way to communicate. A smile and patience can build bridges between cultures. I also learned that making mistakes is part of learning. Now I want to learn more about different cultures and make friends from around the world.2025~2026学年下学期八年级英语单元测试

第二部分 阅读理解(共三节,满分30分)
第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分)
根据短文内容,判断正误(正确"T",错误"F")。
Gestures are a common way of communication, but the same gesture can mean different things in different cultures. For example, the "thumbs up" sign means "good job" or "OK" in many Western countries. However, in some countries like Iran and Thailand, it is considered rude.
Nodding the head usually means "yes" in most cultures, but in Bulgaria and Greece, nodding can mean "no". In those countries, people shake their head to say "yes". This can be very confusing for visitors.
The "OK" sign, made by touching the thumb and index finger to form a circle, means "everything is good" in the US and UK. But in Brazil and Germany, this gesture is rude. In Japan, it means "money". In France, it means "zero" or "worthless".
Eye contact is also different across cultures. In Western countries, looking someone in the eye shows you are honest and confident. But in some Asian and African cultures, too much eye contact can be seen as disrespectful, especially when talking to older people.
These differences teach us an important lesson: when we visit a new country, we should learn about local customs and gestures. What is polite in our culture might be impolite in another. Understanding these differences helps us communicate better and show respect to people from different backgrounds.
21. The "thumbs up" sign means "good job" in all countries.
22. In Bulgaria, nodding the head can mean "no".
23. The "OK" sign means "money" in Japan.
24. In Western countries, too much eye contact is considered disrespectful.

My name is Maria, and I'm from Spain. Last summer, I participated in a student exchange program and spent two months in China. It was an amazing experience that changed how I see the world.
Before I left, I was very excited but also a little nervous. I had learned some Chinese phrases, but I knew the language would be difficult. What worried me most was whether I would make friends and fit in.
My host family was in Beijing. They were so welcoming! On my first day, they took me to a traditional restaurant and ordered Beijing duck. I didn't know how to use chopsticks well, so the food kept falling. My host sister, Li Na, laughed and patiently taught me how to hold them correctly. By the end of the meal, I could pick up food without dropping it!
One thing that surprised me was the importance of "face" in Chinese culture. In Spain, we are very direct. If we have a problem, we say it openly. But in China, people try to avoid saying "no" directly because they don't want to embarrass others. At first, this confused me. I couldn't understand why people didn't just say what they meant. But Li Na explained, and I learned to read between the lines.
I also celebrated the Dragon Boat Festival with my host family. We made zongzi together—sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves. It was hard to wrap them properly, but it was so much fun! Li Na told me the story of Qu Yuan, and I was touched by this ancient tradition.
When it was time to say goodbye, I cried. I had made a true friend and learned so much about Chinese culture. This experience taught me that although we come from different cultures, friendship has no borders. I hope Li Na can visit Spain someday so I can share my culture with her.

33. How did Maria feel about the Dragon Boat Festival experience
A. It was difficult and boring. B. It was fun and meaningful.
C. It was strange and confusing. D. It was scary.
34. What did Maria learn from her exchange experience
A. Chinese food is the best in the world.
B. Friendship can cross cultural borders.
C. Learning a new language is impossible.
D. Spain is better than China.
35. Which word best describes Maria's overall experience in China
A. Disappointing. B. Amazing. C. Boring. D. Difficult.
C
Table manners can be very different from country to country. What is polite in one culture might be considered rude in another. Learning about these differences is important when you travel or eat with people from other countries.
In China, it's common to share dishes. Food is placed in the center of the table, and everyone takes food from the shared plates using their own chopsticks or serving spoons. It's polite to let elders or guests start eating first. You should never stick your chopsticks upright in a bowl of rice because this reminds people of incense (香) used at funerals. When you finish eating, it's polite to leave a little food in your bowl to show that you are full.
In Japan, people say "itadakimasu" before eating, which means "I humbly receive this food." After the meal, they say "gochisosama deshita" to thank the person who prepared the food. It's acceptable to slurp (发出吸食的声音) noodles in Japan—it shows you are enjoying your meal. However, you should avoid passing food from chopstick to chopstick, as this is also associated with funeral rituals.
In many Western countries, table manners are quite different. People usually have their own plate of food. They use a fork in the left hand and a knife in the right. When taking a break from eating, they place the knife and fork crossed on the plate. When they finish, they put the knife and fork together on the plate at the 4 o'clock position. It's considered impolite to talk with food in your mouth or to make noise while eating.
In India and some Middle Eastern countries, people often eat with their hands. But there are rules: you should only use your right hand to eat because the left hand is considered unclean. Before eating, you should wash your hands thoroughly.
Understanding these differences helps us show respect to other cultures. When in doubt, watch what locals do and follow their example. Remember, good manners are about making others feel comfortable.
36. What is the right order of what to do at a Chinese dinner table

Traveling to a foreign country is exciting, but it can also be challenging when you face cultural differences. Here are some tips to help you adapt to a new culture.
◆ Learn about the culture before you go. Read books, watch movies, or search online about your destination. 41 This will help you avoid making embarrassing mistakes.
◆ Be open-minded. Things may be different from what you're used to. 42 Don't judge quickly. Instead, try to understand why people do things that way.
◆ Observe and follow. When you arrive, watch how local people behave. 43 For example, if you see people taking off their shoes before entering a home, do the same.
◆ Learn basic phrases. Even if you can't speak the language well, learning a few simple words like "hello," "thank you," and "please" can make a big difference. 44
◆ Ask questions politely. If you're unsure about something, it's okay to ask. 45 Most people will be happy to explain their customs to you. They will appreciate your effort to understand.
Remember, adapting to a new culture takes time. Be patient with yourself and enjoy the learning process. Every challenge is an opportunity to grow!
