The paddle (桨) cuts through the water as Paralympian athlete Curtis McGrath pushes his canoe (皮划艇) forward. With each strong move, a quick flash of green-and-yellow Aboriginal art can be seen on the paddle — the special design for Australia’s Paralympic team. For McGrath,
this pattern, called “The Journey”, carries deep meaning. It matches his own story, as he found strength in sports after losing his legs. It seems symbolic of the idea that talking can support
recovering.
Many people find it difficult to talk about serious illness or injury. Serious injuries, like
McGrath’s, come with a complex range of emotions including anger, denial, and depression. But sharing such emotions and talking about injuries can help people to manage them.
“For me, to have a good support network around me helped me get through those tough
times,” McGrath said during an interview in 2018. Understandably, many people with serious
injuries find it easier to talk with others going through the same or a similar experience. This can bring a fuller level of understanding that helps people live with their injury on practical and
emotional levels.
“Six months after I got hurt, I got to see people who’d been injured doing things that I
didn’t think were possible,” says McGrath. Inspired, he tried a few sports before finding his
passion for paracanoe that he took to the Invictus Games in London, 2014. His achievements in sports have seen him win multiple gold medals at the Paralympic Games and World
Championships.
McGrath has become a champion for people with a disability, and a motivational speaker. And he’s not afraid to openly discuss his suffering. “It’s important to remember that the hard
times never last forever,” advises McGrath, “There’s someone out there that’s going through something similar. It’s your responsibility to reach out to talk and to see what you could be.”
4 .Why does the author mention “The Journey” on McGrath’s paddle
A .To present his personal recovery story.
B .To express his honor as a disabled athlete.
C .To explain the special design for the team.
D .To highlight the importance of team spirit.
5 .How can sharing emotions about serious injuries benefit people
A .It reduces their dependence on others.
B .It saves them the cost of medical care.
C .It increases their tolerance of injuries.
D .It helps them get professional guidance.
6 .What does McGrath advise disabled people to do
A .Contain emotions. B .Take responsibility.
C .Develop hobbies. D .Seek connection.
7 .Which of the following can best describe McGrath
A .Curious and devoted. B .Strict and influential.
C .Strong and independent. D .Open-hearted and inspiring.

One morning last month, I decided to try artificial intelligence on a pressing problem: my inbox. I had hundreds of messages, and though most were junk, a handful were of actual interest. So I turned to Cora, an app that uses A. I. to protect users from messages that don’t genuinely
require a response. During setup, it read my latest e-mails to learn who I am.
Typically, engaging with e-mail involves sorting messages into different layers of
complexity. The shallowest layer includes e-mails you can confidently delete. The next contains messages that can be satisfied with a simple reply: “Got it” or “Thanks.” The deepest layer
consists of messages that are quick to read but require significant thought.
Consider this e-mail: “Hi Cal I’m John Doe’s brother…I’m working on a new tech
startup…I’d love to grab coffee with you. Any particular days work best ” Before I can respond, I need to assess the social and practical implications of the request. Is John Doe sufficiently
important to me that I need to do his brother a favor If I agree, when and where should I suggest The task arguably bundles filtering (筛选), decoding, planning and analysis.
The morning after I activated Cora, I logged in with nervousness. Instead of thirty or forty messages, I found only five requiring my attention. Boring as the moment might seem, I’m not sure that A. I. has ever made me more excited than I was then.
Cora’s decisions seemed pretty good — all but two were indeed deletable (I could read the wrongly filtered messages directly from the briefing webpage). The app even drafted possible
replies for layer- two messages. What it didn’t try to tackle were the layer-three ones.
In The Tacit Dimension, Michael Polanyi argued that our decisions depend heavily on
unstated context. “… we can know more than we can tell,” he wrote. A. I. is ignorant of this “tacit knowledge”, so it can’t reliably figure out whether to say “yes” to that coffee invitation.
Still, A. I. e-mail tools can have a profound impact. Now I’m impatient for what comes next.
8 .What is the author’s main purpose in trying Cora
A .To screen inbox e-mails. B .To study e-mail patterns.
C .To erase old inbox history. D .To block unknown senders.
9 .What can the “coffee” e-mail be viewed as
A .A quick-reply note. B .A delete-level item.
C .A low-priority letter. D .A layer-three message.
10 .How did the author feel after seeing only five e-mails
A .Bored. B .Doubtful. C .Excited. D .Nervous.
11 .What may A. I. e-mail tools struggle with
A .Judging context.
B .Spotting junk mail.
C .Writing short replies.
D .Classifying messages.

As clocks spring forward in the northern hemisphere (北半球), many people eagerly await longer, sunnier evenings. They might accept a few sleepy mornings as a small trade-off. However, recent studies warn that Daylight Saving Time (DST) could harm health in lasting ways.
Our body’s internal clock, called the circadian rhythm, sits in a brain area known as the
suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). This clock controls when we feel awake or sleepy. It manages
melatonin, a hormone (荷尔蒙) that makes us sleepy, and cortisol, a hormone that boosts
wakefulness. Light exposure, especially blue light in the morning, starts this clock. Special cells in the eyes send signals to the SCN. When morning light hits right, sleep hormones kick in at night, and we wake up naturally the next day.
Standard time, often called winter time, matches sunlight better. On standard time, people get more blue morning light, thus setting off their body clocks properly. DST, however, steals an hour of morning light and adds an hour of bright evening. Less morning blue light means the SCN
is never fully “clicked”, while evening light stops melatonin and pushes bedtime later. The result is a daily mismatch that continues for months.
Large studies show what this mismatch costs. Americans living on the late sun edge of a time zone sleep 19 minutes less a night during DST, and are 11% more likely to be overweight. Teenagers, already night owls, lose 32 minutes. The switch week itself is worse: heart attacks jump 24%, strokes 8%, suicides 6%, and fatal car crashes rise.
Experts offer fixes. Chronobiologist Eva Winnbeck from the University of Surrey suggests sitting outside in morning light (no sunglasses) to reset your clock. Skip bright screens at night,
and use warm home lights in the evening to protect melatonin. Enjoy evening activities like
gardening or golf, but try orange tinted glasses to block blue light. You might feel silly, but better sleep is worth it.
12 .What is the main function of the circadian rhythm
A .It reduces the risk of heart attacks. B .It controls sleep related hormones.
C .It absorbs sunlight to wake people up. D .It affects people’s preference for DST.
13 .Why does DST negatively affect sleep quality
A .It disturbs melatonin production. B .It shortens the time of night sleep.
C .It increases morning blue light exposure. D .It makes teenagers awake in the morning.
14 .What measure can help reduce the harm caused by DST
A .Using cool lights at night. B .Avoiding screens completely.
C .Wearing orange tinted glasses. D .Staying indoors in the morning.
15 .Which of the following is the best title for the passage
A .DST: A Cure for Sleeplessness B .DST: A Hidden Threat to Health
C .DST: Blue Light Secrets at Sunrise D .DST: Internal Clock’s Perfect Match

How to Start Mindful Eating
Mindful eating is about waking up to the experience of eating. Experts recommend starting mindful eating gradually. Aim to eat one or a few meals per week in a slower, more attentive way.
16 Here’s a simple practice to help you get into a more mindful eating mindset.
● Prepare with intention.
Before eating, take a moment to acknowledge your hunger level and emotional state. Take a few deep breaths to calm your body and help it shift into “rest and digest” mode. Turn off
distractions like your phone, the TV, or your unfinished work. 17
● Engage your senses.
Observe the colors and shapes of your food. 18 As you eat, pay attention to the flavors and how the food feels in your mouth. This sensory awareness can help you feel more
satisfied and prevent you from overeating.
● 19
Take small bites and chew each completely. This allows you to fully experience and appreciate the taste and texture of your food, and helps you digest it better.
● Reflect on fullness and satisfaction.
20 This simple act helps you slow down and check in with your body. Aim to stop eating when you’re about 80% full to allow your body enough time to register that you’ve eaten enough.
A .Eat slowly and chew thoroughly.
B .Check and be mindful of your hunger.
C .Put your chopsticks down after each bite.
D .In this way you can focus only on your meal.
E .Then work your way up to making it a daily habit.
F .And breathe in the pleasant smell before taking a bite.
G .Eating mindfully can boost mood and improve food choices.

Being an exchange student, I use my camera to bridge cultures and capture moments from the country I call my second home.
Traditional Minnan-style houses, with roofs 36 (distinct) curved and walls
time-honored, stood shoulder to shoulder. The rhythmic calls of free-range chickens provided background music for our shoot, occasionally interrupted by the distant 37 (laugh) of villagers passing along the paths.
What 38 (strike) me most was such plain warmth. A woman rode past with a
basketful of leafy greens, her feet barely touching the ground as she slowed 39
(exchange) greetings with neighbors. At the store, the owner, 40 (wear) a gentle smile, wiped his hands carefully before weighing out dried mushrooms 41 regular customers.
In that instant, I felt I was carried 3,000 kilometers south to my grandmother’s village. Though the landscape differed, the core remained unchanged: that familiar village ecosystem 42 shopkeepers remember your favorite childhood treats and locals catch up on the 43 (late) news.
This is the China I have come to know. It is not just through its high-rises and express

The first week of the new semester always carried a strange kind of energy — new classes, new faces, and the quiet hope of starting over. As a 11th-grade transfer student, I walked into the noisy classroom with my head low, clutching (紧握) my backpack strap like a lifeline. Everything felt foreign — the laughter, the inside jokes, the invisible circles I wasn’t part of. My new desk
mate, Olivia, sat by the window, her notebook perfectly organized, her confidence filling the space between us. When she noticed me hesitating, she smiled, slid a neatly written class schedule
across the desk, and in a soft voice said she’d show me around at lunch. That small gesture made me want to belong — to be seen.
So when she mentioned the debate club after class, I told her I’d been on the debate team and had even won a regional contest. It wasn’t planned. The lie just slipped out, smooth and
effortless, like it had been waiting for its cue. Her eyes lit up, and for the first time, I felt noticed — no longer just the quiet new kid.
A few days later, Olivia came running up with a sign- up sheet.“ The annual school-wide
debate competition is in a month — we should team up!” she exclaimed, her enthusiasm
unshakable. I tried to match her energy, but the panic settled deeper each time I imagined standing on stage. Four weeks to prepare — it felt endless and terrifying at the same time.
At our first rehearsal (排练), I stumbled over debate terms, struggled to organize arguments, and froze when asked to practice rebuttals (反驳). Some teammates exchanged eye rolls and quiet
laughs that stung more than their whispers. Olivia didn’t say anything; her smile faded, polite yet puzzled.
By Friday, the lie felt heavier than the weight on my shoulders. Each“ keep going” she offered sounded like a test I couldn’t pass. That night, I stared at my debate notes, the words swimming before my eyes. I knew I couldn’t keep pretending. Something had to give.
注意:
1.写作词数应为 150 个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
During the next rehearsal, I finally admitted the truth to everyone.

47 .参考范文:
During the next rehearsal, I finally admitted the truth to everyone. For a long moment, the room went silent — you could have heard a pin drop. Then Olivia spoke, calm and steady: “It’s fine. We’ll start from scratch.” One by one, the others offered advice, shared notes, and cracked small jokes that eased the tension. From that day on, I stayed after school until the lights went out — repeating lines, practicing arguments, recording myself to correct every pause. My voice
wavered, my notes were full of red marks, but fear slowly turned into focus. I was no longer pretending; I was learning to earn my place.
A month later, Olivia and I stepped onto the stage together, ready for the big day. My palms were sweating, and my heartbeat drowned out the audience. When I stumbled over a point, Olivia jumped in smoothly, guiding me back on track. Our teammates whispered reminders and adjusted timing, and by the final round, we were in sync. When the judges announced our victory, the applause felt like sunlight breaking through. Standing there, I understood something deeper than winning: the path I’d faked at first had led me to something real — courage I had built, friends who believed in me, and a place where I truly fit.
