2025 marked a new chapter for cultural exchange between China and Germany, especially in the field of ceramic art. This cross-cultural dialogue was led by Li Wei, a renowned Chinese
ceramic artist who has dedicated over 20 years to reviving traditional Jingdezhen porcelain techniques while blending modern design elements.
Li’s latest project, named “Clay & Creativity”, was mounted at the Berlin University of the Arts in March. The initiative brought together 15 design students from Germany’s top art schools and 10 Chinese ceramic craftsmen for a three-month collaborative program. Unlike typical
cultural exchange events that only showcase finished artworks, “Clay & Creativity” focused on hands-on learning: students learned to shape porcelain using ancient Chinese methods, while
craftsmen absorbed Western concepts of minimalism and functional design.
Li was not the only one bridging cultural gaps through ceramic art. International brands
have also recognized the value of combining Eastern craftsmanship with Western design. In April, luxury homeware brand Villeroy & Boch partnered with a Jingdezhen ceramic studio to create a
limited-edition tableware series. Meanwhile, the German Design Council organized a workshop in Shanghai, inviting Chinese artisans to share their skills with European designers. However, Li’s
project stood out for its emphasis on grassroots interaction rather than commercial cooperation. “True cultural exchange happens when people create together, not just trade products,” Li
explained in an interview with a design magazine.
One of the standout participants was Lina Schmidt, a twenty-two-year-old German student. Her final piece — a porcelain teapot that merged Chinese blue-and-white patterns with German
Bauhaus geometric shapes — was selected to be exhibited at the Munich Design Museum later this year. “Working with Master Li completely changed my understanding of ceramic art,”
Schmidt said. “He taught us that tradition isn’t a fixed rule but a living language that can be
reimagined. This experience made me realize how much Eastern and Western design can learn from each other.”
24 .What is the main focus of Li Wei’s “Clay & Creativity” project
A .Training craftsmen in Western design concepts.
B .Showcasing finished ceramic artworks in Berlin.
C .Promoting commercial trade of porcelain products.
D .Offering hands-on collaborative learning experiences.
25 .Why does the author mention Villeroy & Boch and the German Design Council
A .To illustrate broader efforts in cultural integration.
B .To highlight the popularity of Jingdezhen porcelain.
C .To compare their approaches with Li Wei’s project.
D .To prove the commercial value of modern ceramic art.
26 .What makes Li Wei’s project different from other similar initiatives
A .It involves more international students and craftsmen.
B .It has received support from top international brands.
C .It aims to revive traditional Chinese porcelain techniques.
D .It focuses on grassroots creative cooperation instead of business.
27 .What does Lina Schmidt think of her experience with Li Wei
A .It helped her master fixed traditional ceramic rules.
B .It made her realize the superiority of Eastern design.
C .It encouraged her to focus on commercial ceramic design.
D .It inspired her to combine different design styles creatively.

The fountain (喷泉) show of a famous hotel, on the Las Vegas Strip, attracts many visitors every day. But on Tuesday, March 5, this tradition had to be stopped for a unique guest. A
yellow-billed loon, a bird not usually found on the mainland of the U.S., landed in the fountain.
“We are happy to welcome the unique guest,” wrote the hotel team on Twitter. They then announced that the fountains had been stopped and that they were working with state wildlife
officials to rescue the bird, which had “found comfort in our little lake.”
It is extremely rare (罕见的) to see a yellow-billed loon in the Las Vegas area, as it usually makes its home in the Arctic and along the Pacific mainland. The International Union for
Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has listed it as “vulnerable” meaning it could be at risk of
endangerment (受到危害) in the future, while the National Park Service (NPS) considers it to be one of the ten rarest birds that breed (繁殖) on the mainland of the United States, adding that
about 20%-25% of the global population visits Alaska seasonally.
“It’s an odd thing that it would come to the hotel’s fountains, where there are so many
people,” said Kurt Buzard of the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve. According to him, the
yellow-billed loon is a younger bird that might have gotten lost while trying to travel north along the coast, where most yellow-billed loons travel. “It’s really off-course here. Very unusual to see a bird like that here.”
At first, officials from the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) decided it was best not to trouble the bird, giving it a day to work it out on its own. But when Wednesday came, they
were worried about the absence of food the loon may face if it stayed there, so they caught the
bird. Once they made sure it was unharmed and in good health, it was transported to the Wetlands, an area about 5 miles from the Strip, where it had plenty of food and water.
28 .What happened to the fountain show on Tuesday
A .It was turned off because of an emergency. B .It had a special mix of music and lights.
C .It drew a large number of visitors. D .It was canceled for repair work.
29 .Why does the author mention IUCN and NPS in paragraph 3
A .To stress the yellow-billed loon’s rareness and survival situation.
B .To discuss the yellow-billed loon’s living place preferences.
C .To explain the yellow-billed loon’s seasonal visits to Alaska.
D .To introduce the yellow-billed loon’s breeding models.
30 .What does the underlined word “odd” in paragraph 4 mean
A .Interesting. B .Surprising. C .Difficult. D .Natural.
31 .What was the NDOW officials’ first reaction to the bird
A .To leave it alone. B .To inform its owner.
C .To check its condition. D .To move it somewhere else.

Some of the world’s most important scientists think the idea of people living on Mars will come true one day. Stephen Hawking believed humans must move into space to survive. “Once we spread out into space and establish independent colonies, our future should be safe.” he said. Robert Zubrin, a rocket scientist, agrees and thinks starting with Mars makes the most sense. He thinks sending people to Mars will allow us to learn a lot—for example, about the ability of
humans to live in a very different environment.
However, scientists will need to terraform Mars for people to be able to live. Terraforming means changing the environment on a planet so that it is similar to Earth’s. One of the main goals of terraforming Mars is to warm it up because the average temperature there is about -60℃ . One idea for warming Mars is to build factories there that produce greenhouse gases. This could take many centuries. However, it should lead to rainfall and the growth of plants, resulting in more air that people can breathe.
Another big concern for scientists is whether humans can move to Mars and still stay
healthy in mind and body. As a test, six people lived in a Mars-like environment in Hawaii for a
year before “returning to Earth” recently. It was a 1,200-square-foot room that was on the side of a volcano and used the sun for energy. Christiane Heinicke, one of the people who lived there, said that one of the biggest issues was feeling bored. So humans on Mars would always need to keep
themselves busy with various activities. Another important finding was that the people living together should all be able to get along and work together.
One particular organization based in Europe is planning to send the first humans to Mars
before 2030.The organization believes that its project is giving people worldwide the chance to be part of the first human crew ever to live on Mars for good. However, many experts think the
project’s cost of US $6 billion is too low for it to be successful. The American space agency
NASA believes that sending people to Mars would cost about US $100 billion, although this
estimate is based on bringing them back to Earth, too. Regardless, it seems that humans living on Mars may well happen a lot sooner than most people believe.
32 .Why choose Mars first
A .It has no extreme cold. B .It’s fit for quick terraforming.
C .It helps study human adaptability. D .It’s closer than other planets.
33 .What worries scientists most
A .Greenhouse gas shortage B .Human physical/mental health
C .Lack of funding for factories D .Volcanoes on Mars’ surface
34 .What is the connection between Hawaii test and Mars life
A .Both need sun energy use B .Both require team cooperation
C .Both have 1,200-square-foot space D .Both last exactly one year
35 .How is the 2030 Mars plan viewed
A .Cost estimate is too low. B .It can finish terraforming first.
C .NASA will fund it fully. D .It ignores health risks.

In the classroom of Class 7, Grade 8, students were excited about an upcoming event. The school had organized a speech competition titled “Ways to Become Successful,” and many
students were eager to showcase their public speaking skills. Among them was 13-year-old Zora, who, had already won two speech contests and was full of confidence that she could win again.
Zora volunteered to represent her class in the competition, and after a round of voting, she was chosen as the class representative. Although there were only seven days left until the big day, Zora felt a sense of ease about the competition. After all, she had been here before and knew what it took to win.
At home, Zora’s father congratulated her on her achievement, while her mother reminded her to take the competition seriously. Despite her parents’ advice, Zora was convinced that her past successes meant this would be a walk in the park. Her teacher also urged her to prepare
diligently, but Zora only sought help once to revise her initial draft.
As the days went by, Zora did not put in the necessary effort to refine her speech. When the day of the competition arrived, she was hit with a sudden wave of panic. She couldn’t remember the content of her speech, and as she stepped onto the stage, her anxiety only grew. After
delivering the opening lines, she froze, unable to continue. The supportive applause from the audience only added to her confusion, leaving no room for her to recall her prepared words.
Zora struggled through the rest of her speech, finishing it in a state of embarrassment and shame. As she walked off the stage, she saw the disappointment in her teacher’s eyes and felt the letdown from her classmates. It was a heavy burden to bear.
注意:1. 续写词数应为 150 左右;

M: Good afternoon, dear listeners. In today’s program, I’d like to talk about a common
exercise. Many people love running early in the morning. Why Actually it has many benefits.
Not only will you begin a day more relaxed, but also you’ve already had a sense of achievement. If you’re also eager to enjoy the benefits of a morning run, try these. First, getting ready for a
painful start. To many people, getting up early in the morning can be a great pain, especially in
cold winter days. So early to bed, early to rise, and make it a habit. Of equal importance is to keep an open mind. Even if you’ve made enough preparation and determination, there are still times,
when you want to quit. My advice is to accept the setback and instead of giving up, keep going. Another helpful way is to find someone to be together with you. This can make things more
interesting. He or she not only gives you company, but also serves as a monitor.

M: That’s why you studied architecture at university, right
W: Exactly. My cousin Joe is coming to visit me tomorrow. We’re going hiking this Saturday. Why not join us
M: Sounds like a plan. My work has been finished so far this Friday. I don’t have to work overtime on Saturday. Ah, I almost forgot. Here is a present Lily prepared for you.

W: I’ve already finished my studies and graduated last week.
M: How long have you been looking for a job
W: I just started this week.

W: I only got one interview because of my punishing schedule. A month has gone by and I

67 . Back at home, Zora could no longer hold back her tears. She bolted into her room and
hurled herself onto the bed, weeping profusely. The recollection of her poor performance in the
competition weighed heavily on her heart. Her parents quietly entered the room. Instead of getting cross, they seated themselves beside her, patiently listening as she unburdened her guilt. Zora
sobbed out that she felt extremely guilty for disappointing everyone. Her parents consoled her, stating that everyone errs and it’s the way we handle failure that counts. After an extended
conversation, Zora gradually composed herself and started to reflect on her errors.
The next day, Zora went to school and apologized to her class. Standing in front of the class, she appeared a bit nervous yet determined. “Dear classmates, I’m truly sorry for what happened
yesterday. I failed to take the competition seriously enough, and I let our class down,” she said earnestly. To her astonishment, her classmates smiled at her and expressed their understanding.
Her teacher also stepped forward and encouraged her not to be disheartened. The teacher analyzed Zora’s issues and offered her some sound advice. From that moment on, Zora learned a precious lesson. She dedicated herself more assiduously to improving her speaking skills and actively engaged in more activities, eagerly looking forward to redeeming herself.
