Sangeeta had imagined herself in a well-equipped classroom filled with eager students before she received her posting in a village school. However, this was not the case. Out of 130 children enrolled (已注册的), fewer than 30 attended the school regularly, and there were only three teachers in total, each one covering several subjects, often outside their own area of
expertise.
After gathering her thoughts, Sangeeta decided to start with the attendance rate. “After
school hours, I would go door to door in the afternoons. I sat with parents, explaining why
education mattered, and why it was worth sending their children to school instead of making them work,” she shares. “It was a battle — I begged at times, I reasoned at others, and I kept asking
them to send their children to school at least one more day. Slowly, attendance rose to 100 students. It wasn’t an easy victory.”
However, this promising period was short-lived, as Sangeeta soon discovered that
traditional teaching methods seemed ineffective. “The children didn’t want to just sit and listen,” she recalls. “They brightened up when I told stories, sang songs, or played games with them.”
Thus, she began using folk tales, riddles, and interactive activities to make learning enjoyable. Over time, the children started participating eagerly.
Additionally; Sangeeta often eats midday meals with her students, suggesting that when they see her eating from the same kind of plate, they feel she is one of them. During seasonal
fevers, she keeps basic medicines in the staffroom. She adds that on days when rice is served, she avoids giving it to sick children since it is believed to aggravate (使加重) colds. Instead, she
shares her light meal with them before giving medicine.
For Sangeeta, teaching has never been just a job; it is a mission. She says, “When I started, the classrooms were almost empty. Today, those are full of laughter and learning. That is my
biggest reward.”
24 .How might Sangeeta feel when she first arrived at the school
A .Hopeful. B .Disappointed. C .Inspired. D .Regretful.
25 .What did Sangeeta find challenging
A .Teaching several subjects at once.
B .Adapting to life in the countryside.
C .Getting more educational resources.
D .Involving more students in education.
26 .Why did Sangeeta adjust her teaching method
A .To interest students in learning.
B .To encourage independent learning.
C .To reduce lesson preparation stress.
D .To strengthen traditional culture learning.
27 .Which of the following can best describe Sangeeta
A .Cautious and strict. B .Practical and honest.
C .Devoted and caring. D .Emotional and humorous.

For the first time, scientists are tracking the migration of monarch butterflies (帝王蝶)
across much of North America, actively monitoring individual insects on journeys from Ontario all the way to their overwintering colonies (群体) in central Mexico. This long-sought
achievement could provide crucial insights into the poorly understood life cycles of hundreds of species of butterflies at a time when many are in dramatic decline.
A crucial engineering advancement led to the tracking breakthrough. Earlier this year,
Cellular Tracking Technologies, a New Jersey-based company modified its butterfly tag (标签),
called BluMorpho, in a way that allows its signals to be automatically detected by billions of
Bluetooth-enabled devices, as long as a tagged butterfly passes within about 300 feet. This tiny
solar-powered radio tag weighs just 60milligrams. Researchers have tagged more than 400
monarchs this year and are now following their journeys on a cellphone app — also developed by this company.
Most monarchs weigh 500 to 600 milligrams, so each tag-bearing migrator making the
transcontinental journey is, by weight, like a half-raisin (葡萄干) carrying three uncooked grains of rice. “There’s nothing that’s not amazing about this,” said Cheryl Schultz, a butterfly scientist at Washington State University. The movements of monarchs always remain a mystery, and “now we will have answers that could help us turn the tide.”
Monarch tracking has relied on low-tech methods ever since it began in 1935. The biggest current effort is led by Monarch Watch, which oversees the annual sticker-tagging of more than
100,000 monarchs, though fewer than 1 percent are recovered in the winter colonies. Even when a monarch bearing a sticker tag is found, the information it yields is limited to the butterfly’s
physical characteristics and the time and place it was tagged. That’s like trying to make sense of an entire book from only its first and last pages.
Now that those pages are being filled in, researchers can see that the story of the migration is even more dramatic than expected, with many monarchs blown far off course but using their
strong wing muscles and remarkable navigational abilities to get back on track for Mexico.
28 .What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about
A .How researchers tagged butterflies. B .How BluMorpho enables tracking.
C .Why monarchs’ journeys are followed. D .Why tracking tags were upgraded.
29 .What can be inferred from Cheryl Schultz’s words
A .The migration of monarchs is amazing.
B .The tracking guarantees monarchs’ survival.
C .The mystery of monarchs has been solved.
D .The tiny tags represent an incredible advance.
30 .What does the underlined sentence imply
A .Details of monarchs’journeys are not revealed.
B .The sticker-tagged method is superior to others.
C .Monarchs’ physical features are difficult to learn.
D .Understanding of monarchs is limited to books.
31 .Which can serve as the best title of the text
A .Tiny Tags: Revolutionizing Monarchs’ Tracking
B .Stickers vs. Bluetooth: Methods in Migration Study
C .Monarch Butterflies: A Species in Sharp Decline
D .BluMorpho: Guiding Monarchs to Return Home

A recent study from the University of California San Diego reveals a surprising factor
affecting global crop stability: the original source of rainfall. Published in Nature Sustainability,
the research tracks atmospheric moisture back to where it first evaporated, whether from oceans or land surfaces like soil, lakes, and forests. Sunlight heats these surfaces, turning water into vapor
that rises and eventually returns as rain. While ocean-derived moisture often travels across
continents in large weather systems, land-based moisture, known as recycled rainfall, fuels more localized storms. The study finds that the balance between ocean and land moisture strongly
influences regional drought risk and farm productivity.
“Our work changes how we view drought risk,” said Yan Jiang, the study’s lead author. “It is not just about the amount of rain, but where that rain comes from.” Using nearly 20 years of
satellite data, researchers discovered that when more than one-third of precipitation originates
from land, croplands become significantly more vulnerable to drought. Ocean-driven systems
usually bring heavier, consistent rain, whereas land-driven systems produce lighter, less
predictable showers. This makes crops especially weak during critical growth stages when water is most needed.
The research highlights two high-risk areas: the U.S. Midwest and tropical East Africa. In the Midwest, frequent droughts may be worsened by a reliance on land-sourced moisture. When soil dries out, evaporation decreases, leading to less future rain — a self-reinforcing cycle known as a “rainfall feedback loop.” Since this region supplies much of the world’s grain, such
disruptions affect global food markets. Farmers there may need to focus on saving soil moisture and improving irrigation efficiency to break this cycle.
East Africa faces a different challenge. Rapid expansion of farmland and loss of nearby
rainforests threaten the very moisture sources that sustain local rainfall. “Farmers are clearing
forests to grow crops, but those forests help generate the rain the crops need,” Jiang explained. If these moisture sources disappear, local food security will be at greater risk. However, smarter land management, such as conserving forests, can still protect rainfall patterns.
Ultimately, the study emphasizes that forests act as natural rainmakers. By releasing water vapor through transpiration, they help form clouds that rain over surrounding fields. Protecting
these ecosystems is not just about biodiversity; it is essential for sustaining agriculture. This new framework links land use decisions with rainfall patterns, offering a vital tool for climate-smart planning and drought resilience in a changing world.
32 .What makes crops more likely to suffer from drought according to the study
A .The total amount of annual rainfall.
B .The distance moisture travels from oceans.
C .A high proportion of rain coming from land.
D .The speed at which water evaporates from soil.
33 .What can be inferred about the “rainfall feedback loop” in the Midwest
A .It helps farmers predict weather changes accurately.
B .It creates a cycle where dry land leads to less rain.
C .It increases the consistency of ocean-driven storms.
D .It reduces the need for irrigation in grain production.
34 .What is the main conflict facing farmers in East Africa
A .They lack technology to track satellite data.
B .They must choose between growing crops and preserving rain sources.
C .They rely too heavily on ocean-derived moisture for farming.
D .They are forced to move their farms to coastal regions.
35 .What is the author’s purpose in mentioning forests in the last paragraph
A .To argue for stopping all agricultural expansion.
B .To explain how biodiversity protects animal habitats.
C .To highlight the role of ecosystems in maintaining rainfall.
D .To suggest replacing forests with more efficient irrigation systems.
Last night, I heard a story that left me thinking: a friend was driving home late on a rainy day when a cat suddenly dashed out from the shadows. Before he could put on the brakes, he hit the cat. As he stood by the side of the road, shaken, his first thought was: “It was just an accident — I didn’t mean it.” 36 The question has stuck with me like a fish bone in the throat.
Neuroscience offers a clue: our brains are wired to protect our sense of being a “good
person.” 37 A similar phrase is “I had no choice”, which also allows us to avoid facing the complexity of our decisions.
38 In the days that followed, he couldn’t shake the guilt. He replayed the drive endlessly in his mind, and gradually, a different truth emerged: he had been tired, he’d taken a shortcut that he knew was poorly lit, and he had been checking a text message just moments
before. 39 In the end, he posted about the incident online, no longer calling it an “accident”, and even made a donation to a local animal rescue.
His story reveals a crucial truth: accidents are often the result of a series of choices we
make rather than pure randomness. In our daily life, we use “it is an accident” constantly.
40 More often than not, we cannot blame the rain, the cat’s sudden dash, or any other external factor — there are no real excuses. Instead, we must separate choices from accidents. True responsibility lies in acknowledging our choices.
A .These set the stage for the tragedy.
B .How can we lighten our moral load
C .We truly bear no responsibility for the outcome.
D .But the label “accident” offered him no real comfort.
E .Life may happen to us, but it doesn’t fully excuse us.
F .Why do we reach for the word “accident” so quickly
G .Calling something an “accident” often serves this purpose.

We walk to the harbor, the early morning sun just beginning to burn pink through the fog. We’ve come to say goodbye.
“Bye, sailboats,” Mom says. My little brother, Ben, waves his fist. “Goodbye, harbor,” Dad says. I remember clouds of seagulls (海鸥) following the fishing boats, hoping to snap up shellfish tossed overboard. “Any last farewells, Marissa ” Dad asks me. I bite my lower lip. Goodbye,
home.
When mom and dad announced we were moving, Dad said we were going “home.” He
meant out west, where Grandma and Grandpa raised him along with lots of chickens and cattle. “The desert is beautiful in its own way,” Dad said. I tried to smile. But I knew mountains would only stand between me and the rosy sun rising over the ocean. “We’ll find new things to love,” Mom promised. But I knew I’d never love anything as much as waking up to the sound of a
seagull’s cry.
After five days of driving across rolling prairie, we see mountaintops on the horizon. On
day six, we pull into Grandpa’s dusty driveway. I sigh. Now this is our house, until Mom and Dad can find a new one to buy.
I take the attic (阁楼) bedroom with pink wallpaper covering the ceiling. The night before I go to school, I pull my notebook out from under the bed. I’ve started a list ofOld Things I Miss:
the salt scent instead of farm stink, seagulls instead of chickens, friends to play with instead of
only Ben. I flip the page over, where I’ve started another list: New Things I Love. It’s still blank. That night I dream of seagulls calling, their cries rising and falling with the wind. They sail across the sky, following the fishing boats.
注意:
1.写作词数应为 150 个左右;
The next morning, I open my eyes to the ceiling, but I still hear seagulls.

M: Yes. We have two big meals a day, and we spend a lot of time preparing them. Here in Britain, you have only one big meal a day, apart from breakfast and lunch snack, and you spend much less time preparing it.
W: Yes, but we’re just as fond of good and delicious food as you are. We like to eat out on special occasions, such as weekend evenings, birthday parties and other celebrations. London is full of
foreign restaurants where you can get all the exotic dishes of the world. You must come out with us one evening after the final exam, George.

M: I can’t remember when I made the decision to sail to the North Pole. The previous
summer, I’d come across a book, Far Horizons, which suggested a journey of this kind was a
unique experience. So I put on thick clothes and set off in my boat in July with some friends to sail to the Arctic seas. I’d been told that sailing there, you won’t have more problems than you’d expect on a normal sailing trip. Well, at first it was true. But there are differences. The most
noticeable is that you’re alone there. If anything breaks down, you need to have all the tools you need. There’s no one you can turn to for help. The second difference is the temperature. In
summer, the surface sea water is always above freezing but the air temperature never goes above ten degrees. For all the effort, we’re rewarded with a trip to a true wilderness, which can be
reached in our very own boat.

Sangeeta had imagined herself in a well-equipped classroom filled with eager students before she received her posting in a village school. However, this was
not the case.(Sangeeta 在被分配到乡村学校之前,曾想象自己在一间设备齐全、满是求知若渴的学生的教室里。
根据第一段中“Out of 130 children enrolled (已注册的), fewer than 30 attended the school regularly, (在 130 名注册学生中,只有不到30 名学生按时到校)”和第二段中“Slowly, attendance rose to 100 students. It wasn’t an easy victory.(慢慢地,出勤人数上升到 100 人。这并不是一场轻松的胜利)”可知,让更多孩子接受教育、提升出勤率是 Sangeeta 面临的难题。故选 D 项。
26 .细节理解题。根据第三段中“However, this promising period was short-lived, as Sangeeta soon discovered that traditional teaching methods seemed ineffective. “The children didn’t want to
just sit and listen,” she recalls.(然而,这段充满希望的时期转瞬即逝,因为 Sangeeta 很快发现传统教学方法似乎收效甚微。“孩子们不想只是坐着听,”她回忆道)”和“Thus, she began using folk tales, riddles, and interactive activities to make learning enjoyable.(因此,她开始运用民间故事、谜语和互动活动让学习变得有趣)”可知,她调整教学方法是为了让学生对学习产生兴趣。故选 A 项。
根据第二段中“After school hours, I would go door to door in the afternoons. I sat with parents, explaining why education mattered (放学之后,下午我会挨家挨户走访,和家长坐在一起,解释教育的重要性)”,第四段中“During seasonal fevers, she keeps basic medicines in the staffroom. She adds that on days when rice is served, she avoids giving it to sick children
since it is believed to aggravate (使加重) colds. Instead, she shares her light meal with them
teaching has never been just a job; it is a mission.(对 Sangeeta 来说,教书从来不止是一份工作,而是一项使命)”可推知,她全心投入教学,还悉心关爱学生,是一位有奉献精神、体贴关怀学生的老师。

A crucial engineering advancement led to the tracking
breakthrough. Earlier this year, Cellular Tracking Technologies, a New Jersey-based company
modified its butterfly tag (标签), called BluMorpho, in a way that allows its signals to be
automatically detected by billions of Bluetooth-enabled devices, as long as a tagged butterfly
passes within about 300 feet.(一项关键的工程进步导致了追踪技术的突破。
Earlier this year, Cellular Tracking Technologies, a New
Jersey-based company modified its butterfly tag (标签), called BluMorpho, in a way that allows its signals to be automatically detected by billions of Bluetooth-enabled devices, as long as a

University. The movements of monarchs always remain a mystery, and “now we will have
answers that could help us turn the tide.”(华盛顿州立大学蝴蝶研究专家 Cheryl Schultz 表示:
“这项技术简直令人叹为观止。” 帝王蝶的迁徙路线一直是个谜,“如今,我们终将找到答案,扭转它们数量锐减的局面。”)”可知,Cheryl Schultz 认为这种微小的标签代表了令人难以置信的进步。故选 D。
30 .词句猜测题。根据第四段中“Even when a monarch bearing a sticker tag is found, the
information it yields is limited to the butterfly’s physical characteristics and the time and place it
was tagged. That’s like trying to make sense of an entire book from only its first and last pages.(即使发现了一只带有贴纸标签的帝王蝶,所获得的信息也仅限于蝴蝶的身体特征以及贴标签的时间和地点。 因此,“That’s like trying to make sense of an entire book from only its first and last pages.” 故选 A。
通读全文,尤其是根据第一段中“For the first time, scientists are tracking the migration of monarch butterflies (帝王蝶) across much of North America, actively monitoring
individual insects on journeys from Ontario all the way to their overwintering colonies (群体) in central Mexico. This long-sought achievement could provide crucial insights into the poorly
understood life cycles of hundreds of species of butterflies at a time when many are in dramatic
Earlier this year, Cellular Tracking
Technologies, a New Jersey-based company modified its butterfly tag (标签), called BluMorpho, in a way that allows its signals to be automatically detected by billions of Bluetooth-enabled
devices, as long as a tagged butterfly passes within about 300 feet.(一项关键的工程进步导致了追踪技术的突破。
故选 A。

Using nearly 20 years of satellite data, researchers discovered that when more than one-third of precipitation originates from land, croplands become
根据第三段中“When soil dries out, evaporation decreases, leading to less future rain — a self-reinforcing cycle known as a “rainfall feedback loop.”(当土壤变干时,蒸发减少,导致未来降雨减少——这一自我强化的循环被称为“ 降雨反馈循环”)”可推知,降雨反馈循环是指干燥的土地导致降雨减少的循环。故选 B 项。
East Africa faces a different challenge. Rapid expansion of
farmland and loss of nearby rainforests threaten the very moisture sources that sustain local
rainfall. “Farmers are clearing forests to grow crops, but those forests help generate the rain the
crops need,” Jiang explained. If these moisture sources disappear, local food security will be at
Ultimately, the study emphasizes that forests act as natural rainmakers. By releasing water vapor through transpiration, they help form clouds that rain over
surrounding fields. Protecting these ecosystems is not just about biodiversity; it is essential for
sustaining agriculture.(最终,这项研究强调,森林是天然的降雨制造者。它们通过蒸腾作用释放水蒸气,帮助形成在周围田野上降雨的云。保护这些生态系统不仅仅是为了生物多样性;

39.上文“He replayed the drive endlessly in his mind, and gradually, a different truth emerged: he had been tired, he’d taken a shortcut that he knew was poorly lit, and he had been checking a text message just moments before.(他在脑海中不停地回放这段旅程,渐渐地,一个不同的真相出现了:他很累,他走了一条他知道光线不好的近路,就在刚才他还在看短信)”列举朋友之前的一系列行为。 A“These set the stage for the tragedy.(这
故选 A。
40 .上文“In our daily life, we use “it is an accident” constantly.(在我们的日常生活中,我们经常使用“这是个意外”)”指出人们的普遍做法,下文“More often than not, we cannot blame the rain, the cat’s sudden dash, or any other external factor — there are no real excuses.(很多时候,我们不能怪雨,不能怪猫的突然冲出,也不能怪任何其他外部因素——没有真正的借口)”强调不能用意外推卸责任。 E“Life may happen to us, but it doesn’t fully excuse us.(生活可能发生在我们身上,但这并不能完全成为我们的借

66 .Dear Sean,
I am sorry to hear that you are suffering from addiction to mobile games. Actually, it is
commonly seen that more and more teenagers get crazy about mobile games, which distract them from studies. Besides, it causes a lack of sleep, posing a threat to their health.
Therefore, to avoid it, I recommend you to manage your time wisely and responsibly. The less time you spent on online gaming, the less likely it is you will be addicted. Moreover, if I were you, I would prefer to engage with family and friends outdoors rather than sit on the couch
looking down at your phone.
I do hope my suggestions will be helpful to you. Looking forward to your good news.
Yours,
67 . The next morning, I open my eyes to the ceiling, but I still hear seagulls. I rub my eyes, sit up and listen. Bird calls drift over the fields. Filled with curiosity, I creep down the stairs onto the back porch and squint toward the sky. To my amazement, a silver cloud of wings wheels above
the freshly turned soils. I can’t believe my eyes. “Seagulls!” I gulp. But how can that be Thrilled yet confused, I hurry to Dad, who is already working on the farm. “They are desert gulls,” Dad
says with a grin.
Dad tells me that these desert seagulls came here 150 years ago. They don’t seem to mind
that they don’t belong here. I close my eyes and listen to the gulls who have lived here forever.
This place doesn’t feel like home. But I feel a piece of home sneaking up on me anyway. I have
something new to put on the list of New Things I Love. Maybe seagulls aren’t new, but desert
gulls are new to me. I wonder if a sea girl can learn to be happy here, too. Maybe someday Mom, Dad, Ben, and I will be watching the rosy sunrise and I’ll hear a gull shriek. I’ll say, “Reminds
you of home, doesn’t it ” And it won’t matter which home I mean.
