In my childhood, whenever I was being unreasonable, or questioning whatever direction my mother was giving, she would say “I’m the momma and you’re the baby.” End of discussion.
Until one day she asked me to do something for her and I said, “No. You’re the momma; I’m the baby.” It gave her a good laugh.
But, at 31, I’m realizing the dynamic might be shifting. She’s the momma; I’m the baby. But I’m also something else now. More will be asked of me to take care of her. My mother is
getting older.
The realization hit me during a recent visit home. In my memory, our house wasn’t
spotless, but I’d call it tidy. Weekends were for cleaning. Yet during this visit I was taken aback
by piles upon piles of mail and papers and junk. A fridge full of spoiled food. A mountain of
clothes begging to be located. Was it always this way When did she become a hoarder (囤积者) A symptom of aging
But my mother would like you to know something: She is not a hoarder. She spoke frankly with more self-awareness than I expected about life and time and happiness. “The time that I have to go through those things would be my weekends. Do I want to spend my Saturday afternoon
going through all the junk Or do I want to go hang out with my friends I think the latter. I don’t want to spend one minute of my free time doing anything that doesn’t bring me joy,” she says.
It’s not that my mother has no worries about aging, but she came to terms with it long
before. “Trey, you could spend so much time worrying about things that aren’t perfect. Then time slips by, and they’re never going to be,” she continues. “I think happiness is a
moment-to-moment, day-to-day kind of thing. It’s not something you sustain. I still think I’m hot- that might be in my head, but so what.”
24 .What was the author’s tone in his response to Mom in paragraph 1

A .Her refusal to donate old stuff. B .The mess in Mom’s house.

A .She had plans with her friends.
B .She was too old to do it on her own.
C .She had trouble sorting out the junk.
D .She desired a pleasant time for herself.
27 .Which of the following may best describe Mom’s philosophy of life
A .An idle youth, a needy age. B .Haste makes waste.
C .No thorn, no throne. D .Living in the present.

Urbanization in Canada is rapidly consuming wildlife habitats. This development not only destroys habitats but also fragments (分裂) them, creating isolated patches that disturb migration and threaten animal populations. Wildlife scientists are studying how animals adapt to these
changes, with some species showing remarkable adaptation while others struggle.
The key impacts of urbanization on wildlife, according to John Wilmshurst from the
Canadian Wildlife Federation (CWF), include habitat loss, fragmentation, movement barriers like roads and fences, and increased human-wildlife conflicts. Despite these challenges, urban areas
offer abundant food sources for wildlife.
Studies on wildlife urbanization raise questions about whether animal behaviors are
changing due to habitat loss and the impact of climate change on their environments. Wilmshurst
points out that it’s difficult to track species negatively influenced by urbanization, as they often disappear. However, GPS tracking has helped researchers observe how sensitive animals are to urban infrastructure
Some animals, like wolves, avoid people and built-up areas, changing their behaviors to
keep clear of urban environments. Others, like bobcats, adapt well to urban life, with some species even passing on these behaviors to their young. Birds have been known to change their song
pitches (音高) to adapt to urban soundscapes.
Understanding impact of habitat fragmentation is complex, but Wilmshurst suggests that well-placed landscape management can reduce some negative impacts. This includes changing fences and creating wildlife passages on roads to support animal conservation.
People are also adapting to the presence of wildlife in cities, planting pollinator gardens and diversifying their yards with native plants. Changes in bylaws and building codes, such as keeping cats indoors and reducing bird strikes with glass windows, reflect a growing effort to maintain a
connection with nature in urban environments.
The CWF believes that maintaining this connection is crucial for our increasingly urban
population. Public policies that help people safely coexist with wildlife in their neighborhoods can improve urban life and support conservation efforts, showing that both humans and wildlife can
adapt to the challenges of urbanization.
28 .Why is it challenging to study species affected by urbanization according to Wilmshurst
A .They often migrate to remote areas.
B .They tend to disappear from the area.
C .They change their behaviors too quickly.
D .They become overly aggressive and dangerous.
29 .What is the purpose of mentioning birds changing their song pitches in paragraph 4
A .To show animals’ behavioral adaptation.
B .To criticize the severe noise pollution.
C .To argue that birds suffer the most.
D .To explain why birds leave cities.
30 .How can people maintain the connection with nature
A .By wisely balancing plants and animals.
B .By further studying habitat fragmentation.
C .By combining official and civilian efforts.
D .By returning urban habitats to the wildlife.
31 .Which of the following is the best title for the passage
A .The Disappearing Wild Animals in Canada
B .How GPS Tracks Wildlife in Canadian Cities
C .The Primary Threat of Urbanization to Wildlife
D .Wildlife and Human Adaptation to Urbanization

When my older son Jack was in high school, he accepted a summer job selling solar panels door-to-door. My first reaction was to tell him not to do it. I felt protective — afraid of the
rejection he would face on doorsteps all summer long. I just couldn’t see how my thoughtful son, a good athlete and straight-A student, could cope with so much failure.
Instead, we can learn to let kids fail well. Give your kids space to fail in contained, safe
ways, and teach them to embrace and learn from the failures they experience. Show them how to face forward and go after the next challenge with renewed insight and energy.
This mindset — what psychologist Carol Dweck calls a growth mindset — is an invaluable resource for children, particularly in a fast-changing world. When my younger son Nick, learning to ski at about age eight, asked me to watch him come down the slope, I dutifully stood at the
bottom and waited. After his short run, he looked up and asked, “How did I do ” My response
“You did great!” But instead of the smile I’d expected, Nick looked puzzled, even disappointed, as he replied, “Can’t you tell me what I did wrong so I can get better ”
Now I was the one smiling. Somehow, as a parent, I had helped nurture this growth
mindset. Intimately familiar with Dweck’s research as a social psychologist myself, I should have commented on his process (“You were in control of your speed, and you looked like you were
enjoying yourself. If you bend your knees a little more and keep your chest facing downhill, your form will be better”) rather than praising his results (“You did great!”). And now Nick showed me that what I was trying to do was working.
How do you start Stop yourself from reactively protecting your child from failure. Notice
your instincts, which, while valuable in so many contexts, are not helpful in others. Initially, ask yourself, “What is the risk here What kind of failure would this be ” to help you override your instinct to shield children from life’s most valuable lessons. Encourage them to take smart risks Create (and help them create) opportunities to stretch. Support their growth as they do so, while helping them think through the possible outcomes of choices they are considering.
Then let them choose.
32 .What was the author’s reaction to Jack’s summer job
A .She encouraged Jack to take the smart risk.
B .She worried about Jack’s ability to handle rejection.
C .She thought it would help Jack build a strong will.
D .She considered the context of the possible failure.
33 .What does the author want to show with Nick’s story
A .Nick is naturally gifted at skiing. B .Dweck’s research is very useful.
C .Her positive feedbacks to Nick worked. D .Timely praise makes a difference to kids.
34 .What does the author advise first before acting
A .Assess risks. B .Protect kids. C .Let kids choose. D .Create chances ·
35 .Which of the following is the best title for the passage
A .Dweck’s Growth Mindset Theory on Failure.
B .Let Kids Fail A Lesson in Building Confidence.
C .The Essential Values Gained from Kids’ Failure.
D .Parent’s Guide to Fostering Kids’ Growth Mindset.

In reality, there are lots of things that come into play. ____40____ While we don’t yet have a way to comprehensively avoid jet lag, at least researchers and airlines aren’t asleep on the job in their hunt for a cure.
A .A complete cure for jet lag is unlikely to find.
B .So how can we deal with the annoying jet lag

Sumi’s daughter Anna had always been called “Number 23.” Every time the school
released exam results, Anna would always end up in 23rd position among 50 pupils. Always 23, regardless of topic or term. Every time Sumi heard that nickname, it caused her concern.
When Sumi stayed with her friends, their discussion nearly always turned to their children. You know how it goes-one parent discusses their child’s piano honors, another boasts about math olympiads or leadership responsibilities. While others were honoring these “great youngsters,” all Sumi could think about was Anna and her unpleasant nickname, Number 23.
Sumi had done everything to help Anna with school-hired professional tutors, bought fancy stationery, even packed brain food. And Anna tried. She gave up sketching, paper cutouts, and
many others. She moved from one class to another, endlessly trying. But then the indicators
started showing-she lost her appetite, couldn’t sleep, and sweated all the time. Eventually, she got terribly sick. That was when Sumi gave in. She stopped pressing and Anna bounced back to being the cheery little child they knew.
One day, Sumi and her friends went on a weekend trip with their families. During lunch, two kids got into a heated quarrel over a single slice of dessert. No one could calm them down. Then Anna stepped in. “Let’s flip (抛) a coin,” she said. Simple as that. Boom-problem solved. Everyone was astonished.
Later, on the journey back, they got delayed in traffic. The kids were getting restless. Anna She started delivering jokes like a big sister. Even the adults laughed. Then she took the leftover
candy boxes and started changing them into animals-paper elephants, lions, and birds. Before everyone said goodbye, she presented one to each youngster as a gift. The other parents were
shining with appreciation. For the first time in years, Sumi felt something well up in her chest-pride.
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150 左右;

This is a notification to inform you that our new campus is still under construction, and it
won’t be finished until the end of May. The P.E. classes will still take place at the old campus this semester, because the new gym will take another three months to complete. Please don’t forget to take away your sports clothes and shoes after P.E. classes. Teachers and cleaners found clothes
and shoes scattered all around the gym last week. We really hope that such behavior will not
happen in the new gym. The chemistry laboratory will have two doors. One will open straight to the schoolyard, and the other one will lead to the nearby canteen. It’s very important for students not to enter the laboratory with food. Those who do it will be punished. Everyone will need a new card to enter the new teaching building. There will be an electronically controlled door that
requires scanning the card. As there will be no more guards, you can’t enter the building if you
forget your card. And, remember to be at the school bus stop several minutes before the scheduled time. The drivers won’t wait for you for more than a minute.

In my childhood, whenever I was being unreasonable, or
questioning whatever direction my mother was giving, she would say “I’m the momma and you’re the baby.” End of discussion. Until one day she asked me to do something for her and I said, “No. You’re the momma; I’m the baby.” It gave her a good laugh.(在我童年时期,每当我不讲道理或质疑母亲的指示时,她总会说:“我是妈妈,你是小孩。” 故选 A 项。
Yet during this visit I was taken aback by piles upon piles of
mail and papers and junk. A fridge full of spoiled food. A mountain of clothes begging to be
located. Was it always this way When did she become a hoarder
根据第四段中妈妈说的话““The time that I have to go through those things would be my weekends. Do I want to spend my Saturday afternoon going through all the junk Or do I want to go hang out with my friends I think the latter. I don’t want to spend one minute of
my free time doing anything that doesn’t bring me joy,” she says.(“整理那些东西本该利用周末时间。
Trey, you could spend so much time worrying about things that aren’t perfect. Then time slips by, and they’re never going to be,” she continues. “I think
happiness is a moment-to-moment, day-to-day kind of thing. It’s not something you sustain. I still think I’m hot- that might be in my head, but so what.”(“特雷,若总为不完美之事忧虑,时光便会悄然流逝,而问题永远不会解决。”

Others, like bobcats, adapt well to urban life, with some species even passing on these behaviors to their young. Birds have been known to change their song
故选 A 项。
People are also adapting to the presence of wildlife in cities,
planting pollinator gardens and diversifying their yards with native plants. Changes in bylaws and building codes, such as keeping cats indoors and reducing bird strikes with glass windows, reflect a growing effort to maintain a connection with nature in urban environments.(人们也在适应城市中野生动物的存在,种植传粉花园,用本地植物丰富他们的院子。
their neighborhoods can improve urban life and support conservation efforts, showing that both
humans and wildlife can adapt to the challenges of urbanization.(帮助人们与社区中的野生动物安全共存的公共政策可以改善城市生活,支持保护工作,表明人类和野生动物都能适应城市化的挑战)”可知,人们可以通过官方和民众的努力来保持与自然的联系。故选 C 项。
通读全文,第一段讲加拿大城市化影响野生动物,部分物种适应、部分挣扎;第四段具体说明不同野生动物的适应表现;第六、七段讲人类通过民间举措和官方政策适应与野生动物共存,共同应对城市化挑战,最后一段“Public policies that help people safely coexist with wildlife in their neighborhoods can improve urban life and support conservation
efforts, showing that both humans and wildlife can adapt to the challenges of urbanization.(帮助人们与社区中的野生动物安全共存的公共政策可以改善城市生活,支持保护工作,表明人类和野生动物都能适应城市化的挑战)”点明核心,所以“野生动物和人类对城市化的适应”适合作为文章标题。

I felt protective — afraid of the rejection he would face on
doorsteps all summer long.(我心里生出一种保护欲——害怕整个夏天他挨家挨户上门时,会遭遇那些拒绝。)”
根据倒数第三段“And now Nick showed me that what I was trying to do was working.(现在尼克向我证明了我正在努力做的事情是行得通的)”可知,作者通过尼克的故事想要表明她对尼克的积极反馈起了作用。故选 C。
Initially, ask yourself, “What is the risk here What kind of failure would this be ” to help you override your instinct to shield children from life’s most
故选 A。
Instead, we can learn to let kids fail well. Give your kids space to fail in contained, safe ways, and teach them to embrace and learn from the failures they
experience. Show them how to face forward and go after the next challenge with renewed insight and energy.(相反,我们可以教导孩子们如何正确地面对失败。

39 .下文“While the brain is our master clock, other tissues like the liver and muscles have their
own clocks that regulate metabolism (新陈代谢), the body’s process of turning food into energy.
That is, meal timing and composition could also be key to reducing jet lag.(虽然大脑是我们体内总的主时钟,但像肝脏和肌肉等其他组织也有各自的生物钟来调节新陈代谢,即身体将食物转化为能量的过程。
“However, jet lag isn’t just about light exposure and sleep. (然而,时差反应不仅仅与光照和睡眠有关)”与上文构成转折,将讨论范围从光照、睡眠这两个主要因素扩展到其他领域(如饮食),引出下文的新话题,起到了承上启下的作用。故选 G 项。
40 .上文“In reality, there are lots of things that come into play. (事实上,有很多因素都在起作用)”总述缓解时差涉及多方面因素。下文“While we don’t yet have a way to comprehensively avoid jet lag, at least researchers and airlines aren’t asleep on the job in their hunt for a cure. (虽然我们还没有办法完全避免时差反应,但至少研究人员和航空公司都在积极寻找解决方案,并未懈怠)”总结了现状并表达了积极展望。E 选项 “Meanwhile, different people have different rhythms. (同时,不同的人有不同的节律)”与上文“lots of things” 呼应,列举了影响时差反应的另一个具体因素(个体节律差异),与上下文语意连贯,共同说明了问题的复杂性。故选 E 项。

New Gaokao Listening Reform
Last weekend, our school held a lecture on the new Gaokao listening reform for Senior 3 students, who attended it with great enthusiasm.
The lecturer explained the switch to the computer-based English listening test, introducing its differences in operation and audio from the traditional one. He also shared practical mindset adjustment strategies, like taking deep breaths to stay calm.
This lecture was really helpful. Not only did we clearly understand the reform, but we also gained valuable listening skills. We all felt grateful for the school’s timely guidance, which gave us more confidence for the coming exam.
67 .Paragraph 1:
Not long after, Sumi got a phone call from Anna’s class teacher: The teacher’s voice was filled
with warmth as she said, “I’m just calling because I have some wonderful news about Anna.” She
then explained that Anna had been selected for the Class Star award for her exceptional social skills and creative talents. Almost every kid voted for her. Sumi felt her eyes moisten as she
listened, remembering all the times she had focused solely on academic rankings. “Anna was a genuinely remarkable child and I’m really proud of her,” the teacher added.Paragraph 2:
That afternoon, Anna returned home, the Class Star certificate in hand. She smiled brightly and told her mother, “I think my friends voted for me because they like my paper animals and
jokes.” Sumi hugged her tightly and said, “You’re a beautiful angel, Anna. I didn’t realize my
little girl was a real-life hero.” Looking at Anna’s happy face, Sumi now realized that every child has their own unique strengths that cannot be measured by grades alone. Being Number 23 didn’t define her daughter’s worth-it was simply one small part of the wonderful person she was
becoming.
