The Future of Transportation: Trends and Statistics
Transportation is a crucial part of our daily lives. With rapid urbanization and advancements in
technology, the way we move from place to place is changing dramatically. In recent years, there has been a noticeable shift towards more sustainable and efficient modes of transportation.·Shift Towards Electric Vehicles (EVs)
EVs are becoming more popular due to their environmental benefits. As countries and cities set stricter emissions (排放) standards, EVs are seen as a cleaner alternative to traditional
gasoline-powered cars.·Rise of Public Transportation
As urban populations continue to grow, public transportation is gaining importance. Cities are
investing in improving public transit (换乘) systems, including buses, trains, and subways, to
reduce traffic jams. Public transportation is also more cost-effective and helps reduce the overall carbon footprint.·Shared Mobility
Shared mobility is becoming a popular option for many people, providing an alternative to private car ownership, especially in cities with heavy traffic. This shift is not only saving money
for commuters (通勤者) but also reducing the number of cars on the road.
Here’s a breakdown of the current transportation trends and their percentage share in major cities around the world.
Mode of Transportation Percentage Share Description
Private Cars 40% Traditional mode of transport, but declining in some cities.
Public Transportation 30% Including buses, trains, and subways, with increasing investments globally.

I grew up in Devon, a small town southwest of Edmonton, and spent a lot oftime on my
family’s farm. From a young age, I loved being outdoors, surrounded by nature. I often saw
wildlife like deer, coyotes, and porcupines, which inspired my passion for the environment. I was happiest when I was outside.
After high school, I studied agriculture at Lakeland College and worked on a large farm,
but I didn’t feel happy doing that work. I started thinking about my love for nature and decided to pursue a career in environmental conservation.
I discovered the Indigenous (土著的) environmental stewardship (管理) program at Yellow head Tribal College(YTC), which combines traditional conservation practices from Indigenous
peoples and Métis cultures with modern scientific methods. Although I am not Indigenous, the program is open to students from all backgrounds, which motivated me to apply.
Indigenous peoples have always been stewards ofthe land, and I wanted to work in an
industry that supports their efforts to protect the environment. The program, launched in 2016,
covered a wide range of subjects, from native studies to soil science. Our small class sizes allowed for a lot of hands-on learning, and we even visited Jasper with our instructor to learn about the
area’s history and culture.
The program included two placements. In 2017, I worked with the First Nations Technical Services Advisory Group, creating maps for wildlife areas. In 2018, I joined Delta Remediation, a soil remediation company. After graduation, I worked for Delta as a field technician and
Indigenous engagement coordinator (协调员), building relationships with Indigenous communities.
Attending YTC changed my life. It provided me with a clear career path, meaningful
experiences, and an opportunity to make a difference. Through the program, I learned about the complex history of Indigenous peoples in Canada, which deepened my respect for their culture and traditions.
24 .What can we learn about the author at a young age
A .He was fond of nature. B .He had a passion for school.
C .He loved being indoors. D .He always fed wild animals.
25 .What is a characteristic of the program at YTC
A .Inviting the locals to donate money to support it.
B .Aiming to build a lasting interpersonal relationship.
C .Involving hands-on learning at the end of each term.
D .mixing traditional knowledge and modern methods.
26 .Why did the author decide to apply to the program at YTC
A .It offers well- paid jobs. B .It is accessible to all students.
C .It features small class sizes. D .It has better teaching methods.
27 .How did the program at YTC affect the author
A .It helped him run a farm. B .It was a reminder of being polite.
C .It was a real eye- opener. D .It enabled him to move to Canada.

A brief session of exercise before class could be the key to better focus and improved
academic performance, according to a study from the University of North Carolina Greensboro.
The research revealed that just nine minutes of high-intensity interval (间歇) training (HIIT) significantly improved children’s scores on a verbal comprehension test. Students who engaged in the quick workout scored higher than those who stayed seated before taking the test.
Professor Eric Drollette, the lead researcher, explained that while many teachers already
encourage movement breaks to help students refocus, there was little scientific evidence to back this practice. Previous studies on exercise and brain function were mostly conducted in controlled lab environments and often involved longer sessions, making them impractical for real
classrooms.
To address this, Drollette’s team developed a set of simple, equipment-free exercises that
could be done in place, such as squats, high knees, jumping jacks, and lunges. Students aged 9 to 12 performed each exercise for 30 seconds, followed by a 30-second rest. All exercises were done at the students’ desks without any special equipment.
The study compared the effects ofthe HIIT session with other activities like sitting still or moderate cycling. Only the high-intensity workout led to a significant improvement in test scores. On average, students scored 8 points higher on the reading fluency test, a notable gain that showed
a clear boost in their academic ability.
This study suggests that short exercise breaks could be an effective strategy for teachers to help students focus before challenging tasks like reading or testing. Teachers can easily
incorporate these exercises into their schedules without needing extra space or equipment.
Looking ahead, Drollette’s team plan to investigate how regular exercise might improve students’ mental health and classroom behavior. They hope their future studies will further
demonstrate the benefits of physical activity for overall well-being.
28 .What does the study find about the HIIT session before taking tests
A .It boosts kids’ scores. B .It can promote weight loss.
C .It is suitable for all ages. D .It reveals the effect of rest.
29 .How does Drollette’s experiment differ from previous studies
A .It requires longer training. B .It involves lab-based setups.
C .It gives participants a treat. D .It is set in a typical classroom.
30 .What does the underlined word “incorporate” in paragraph 6 mean
A .Credit. B .Clarify. C .Include. D .Review.
31 .What do Drollette’s team intend to do next
A .Turn to PE teachers for help. B .Conduct further research.
C .Develop a cure for depression. D .Advocate a green lifestyle.

A 2001 bottle was discovered on Yaya, a beach south of Lima, Peru, and a 2002 bottle was found on Robinson Crusoe Island in Chile. These were the oldest bottles collected in a study
examining plastic bottle pollution along the Pacific coast of Latin America. The research was carried out across 10 countries, covering more than 12,000 kilometers of coastline. The study reveals that Central American countries are most affected by coastal plastic pollution,
underscoring the urgent need for solutions.
While some bottles dated back over a decade, most were less than a year old, according to scientist Ostin Garcia from the University of Barcelona. Plastic waste, including bottles, is now
widespread across the planet, reaching even the most remote areas, such as the deep ocean and the polar regions. Microplastics have been found in human organs, including the brain and
reproductive system, indicating that plastic pollution is now part of our daily lives.
The study points to the role of rising temperatures in increasing plastic consumption. In hot, tropical (热带的) areas like Central America, more bottled beverages (饮料) are consumed. The research also identifies the source of the bottles, revealing that nearly 60% of the items with
identifiable origins came from local producers working with international brands. While bottles from local companies dominate continental beaches, island beaches often receive bottles from Asian countries, likely transported by ocean currents or ships.
To address the growing problem, Garcia and his team recommend returning to the use of
reusable bottles, as was common in the past. They also call for policies encouraging the use of
standardized returnable containers and for beverage companies to take responsibility for their
packaging. The researchers stress the importance of improving waste management, particularly in coastal areas, and addressing the fundamental issue of access to clean drinking water. By tackling these factors, we can reduce plastic pollution and protect our coastal ecosystems.
32 .How does the author present plastic waste in paragraph 2
A .By giving examples. B .By drawing comparisons.
C .By quoting a scientist. D .By explaining a concept.
33 .Which is the major factor driving bottled beverage consumption in Central America
A.Its lower price. B.Its delicate flavour. C.The hot weather. D.The large population.
34 .What do the researchers suggest regarding plastic pollution
A .Calling for international cooperation. B .Reconsidering expert opinions about it.
C .Raising public environmental awareness. D .Taking various steps to address the issue.
35 .Which is the most suitable title for the text
A .Possible Solutions to Polluted Drinking Water B .The Plastic Crisis on Latin American Beaches
C.The Impact of Climate Change on Central America D.Challenges of Waste Management in Coastal Cities

wasn’t completely sure about something. 39 I was no longer the nervous new employee; I became an active member of the team.
By the end of my first month, I had already contributed to several important projects. My confidence grew with every task I completed. This job wasn’t just about getting through the day — it was about learning, growing, and making an impact. 40

Carol and I had been best friends for as long as I could remember. We shared jokes that no one else understood, secrets that no one else knew, and moments that made us feel like we could take on the world together. That’s why I never thought a history presentation could come between us. But in the summer before our senior year, it nearly did.
We were paired up for a presentation in history class. Carol and I had worked together
before, and we always made a strong team. I loved doing the research, diving into books and
articles to piece together information. Carol was good at design. She could make something plain and exciting with colors, visuals, and creativity. We balanced each other out — at least, that’s
what I thought.
This time, though, things didn’t go smoothly. Right from the beginning, we had different ideas. I wanted to focus on facts and a clear, traditional structure, while Carol preferred to take a more creative approach with videos, photos, and a more modern style.
At first, we tried to compromise (妥协). But the more we talked, the more annoyed we
became. I felt like she wasn’t taking the presentation seriously enough, and she thought I was too strict and boring. Our conversations grew shorter until, finally, we stopped speaking.
The silence was the worst part. Days passed, the deadline came closer, and still we hadn’t worked on anything together. I kept telling myself I was right, and that my way would earn us a better grade. But deep down, Carol wasn’t just my partner — she was my best friend.
I sat alone in my room, staring at the research I hadn’t touched. The thought of failing in the presentation weighed heavily on me. I didn’t know how to break the silence between us. I wasn’t sure if Carol would talk to me, but I knew I had to try and make a call.
注意:1.续写词数应为 150 个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
When Carol finally picked up the phone, my heart skipped a beat.

M: Traffic has gotten so bad in the city. Since last year, it’s been nearly impossible to park
anywhere. That must have led to the fact that nobody is buying cars. Also, people can order taxis on their phones now — it’s so convenient.
W: But when you are driving, you feel so free. There are so many places a bus can’t take you to.

W: Good morning. You’re listening to Radio South. Now, let’s check local news here. The city council of Maple Creek has approved the plan to build a new public swimming pool near the city park. Plans for the swimming pool will include indoor and outdoor swimming pools
connected together. It’ll also have a separate pool for children under the age of 12 so that they can use the facility safely. A small picnic area and family site will be added to the poolside. City
manager, Elizabeth Greenfield, spoke about the new swimming pool at a press conference
yesterday. She expressed enthusiasm, saying that the new area will provide the much needed place for the residents to exercise and have fun together. Construction will begin in late January and will take about three months to finish. We expect to see the opening ceremony in May just in time for summer.

67 .One possible version:
When Carol finally picked up the phone, my heart skipped a beat. “Carol, can we talk ” I
blurted out, my voice unsteady. “I hate this silence between us.” For a second, I thought she might hang up, but then she whispered, “I miss us, too.” Those simple words broke down the wall
between us. We admitted our mistakes, laughed at how stubborn we had been, and realized it
wasn’t worth losing our friendship. By the end of the call, we promised to meet the next morning and face the project together.
The next day, I spread my notes out on Carol’s desk. At first, the air still felt heavy, but soon the tension eased. This time, we listened instead of arguing. I added visuals to make the
presentation brighter, and Carol filled in facts to give it structure. Slowly, the project took shape,
blending her creativity with my research. On presentation day, our classmates clapped warmly.
The teacher praised our teamwork. But more than the applause, what mattered was the lesson we
carried away: friendship means more than being right.
