On a rainy afternoon, I was on my way home from school when I saw a little bird lying on the wet ground. Its wings were hurt, and its feathers were soaked by the rain, making it unable to fly. It kept trembling slightly, as if it was scared and cold. I felt so sorry for it that I immediately took off my school coat, gently covered it, and
carefully picked it up in my hands. The bird was very small, so light that I was afraid of hurting it.
When I got home, I asked my mother for help. She found a clean cardboard box, put some soft cotton in it,
and made a warm “home” for the bird. We dried its small body with a clean towel, prepared some cooked rice and warm water, and put them beside the box. At first, the bird was very afraid, huddling in the corner of the box and refusing to eat or move. But every day after school, I would sit beside the box, talk to it quietly, and feed it a little rice patiently. After a few days, it gradually let down its guard, started to eat actively, and even jumped around in the box.
One sunny Sunday morning, I noticed that the bird’swings had healed. I opened the window, gently took the box to the window sill, and let it fly into the sky. It fluttered its wings, sang happily, and flew around my window twice as if to say “thank you” before flying away into the blue sky. Watching it fly freely, I felt warm and proud in my heart. That experience taught me that life is valuable and every small kind act matters. When we show love and care to small lives around us, we can not only help them get out of trouble but also get endless happiness and peace in return.
( ) 59. What happened to the little bird
A. It lost its way home. B. It was hurt and couldn’t fly.
C. It had no food to eat. D. It fought with other birds.
( ) 60. What did the writer do to help the bird

D. Let it stay under a big tree.
( ) 61. What can we learn from the story
A. Practice makes perfect. B. Kindness brings warmth and joy.
C. Many hands make light work. D. Old habits are hard to break.
C
Fireflies 萤火虫 are special and magical insects that can make bright light at night, which is one of the most wonderful scenes in summer. Most of them live in warm, wet places with lots of trees, grass and water, such as
forests, wetlands and near lakes. You can hardly see them in cold or dry places, because they need a humid
environment to survive and reproduce. Their light is soft and yellow-green, flickering gently in the dark night, making summer nights more beautiful and romantic, and attracting many children to chase and watch.
Scientists say the light of fireflies is called “cold light”, which is different from the light of lamps or candles. It makes almost no heat, so it is very efficient and will not waste energy. Fireflies do not shine for fun; instead, the light is an important way for them to communicate. They use the light to send messages to each other, usually to
find partners to mate. The way they flash light can be different from one group to another: some flash once every few seconds, while others flash several times in a short time, just like their own “password”.
In recent years, fewer and fewer fireflies can be seen in some places. This is mainly because of too much
environmental pollution, the loss of their living areas caused by human activities, and the bright light at night that affects their ability to send and receive messages. If we want to keep seeing these magical insects in the future, we
should protect nature, reduce pollution, and make the environment clean and safe for all small living things around us.
( ) 62. Where do most fireflies live
A. In cold dry places. B. In warm wet places. C. In high snowy mountains. D. In noisy cities.
( ) 63. Why do fireflies make light
A. To keep themselves warm. B. To show they are dangerous.
C. To send messages to each other. D. To help people see at night.
( ) 64. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about
A. How fireflies make light and use it.
B. When fireflies come out at night.
C. What fireflies like to eat every day.
D. How long fireflies can live in nature.
( ) 65. What can we infer from the passage
A. Fireflies will disappear soon in the world.
B. Protecting nature helps fireflies live better.
C. Fireflies’ light is hot and very bright.
D. All fireflies flash in the same way.
D
Our school started a month-long environment-protection activity last month, which was themed “Green
Campus, Happy Growth”. All the students in Grade 7 to 9 took an active part in it, and even some teachers joined the activity to set a good example for us. The activity included three meaningful parts: picking up rubbish,
planting small trees, and making posters to call on people to love nature and protect the environment.
Each class was given a small area of the school campus to clean, including the playground, the corridor and the garden. Students took gloves and rubbish bags, bent down to pick up plastic bags, empty bottles, paper scraps and other waste things. They also carefully sorted the rubbish into recyclable and non-recyclable groups, so that it could be recycled and reused, reducing environmental pollution. On a sunny Saturday morning, some students
went to the hill near our school with young trees, shovels and water buckets, and planted over 200 young trees on the hillside. They worked hard, digging holes, putting in the trees, filling the holes with soil and watering the trees, hoping the young trees would grow up quickly and help make the air fresher.
Besides, other students drew colorful and creative posters with warm messages like “Love our earth, start
from small things” and “Save every drop of water, protect our home”. These posters were put up around the
school campus and in the nearby community, attracting many people’s attention. The head teacher said in his
speech that the activity was not just to clean the school and plant trees, but to raise students’ awareness of
protecting the environment and let green ideas take root in everyone’s heart. Most students said they learned a lot from the activity and would keep doing small things in daily life to help protect the environment. The school also announced that it would hold such an environment-protection activity every term to make green ideas part of
students’ daily life.
( ) 66. When did the school start the environment-protection activity
A. Last week. B. Last month.
C. Last term. D. Last year.
( ) 67. What did students do on the hill near the school
A. They picked up rubbish and sorted it.
B. They planted more than 200 young trees.
C. They put up environmental protection posters.
D. They held an environmental protection speech.
( ) 68. What does the underlined word “raise” mean
A. To make something higher.
B. To make people know and care more.
C. To grow plants in the garden.
D. To collect money for charity.
( ) 69. What can we infer from the passage
A. The school pays much attention to students’ sense of environment protection.
B. Few students were interested in the environment-protection activity.
C. Students planted more than 300 young trees on the hill.
D. The environment-protection activity lasted only one week.
( ) 70. What is the best title for the passage
A. A Special Sports Meeting in Our School
