In June, 2025, a female tourist died after being bitten by a snake while walking back to a hotel in Sahara.
Similarly, in May, three people in Shenzhen rushed to hospitals after being bitten by snakes. Snakebites can be
scary because they often happen far from the hospital.
In fact, snakes are shy animals and would much prefer to avoid humans. And if there is a chance, they would
run away rather than attack people. So like other animals, they will protect themselves if they feel scared. Most
bites happen when a person accidentally steps on a snake or reaches near one without seeing it.
So it is important to realize that you are able to stay safe through both better understanding of snake habits and
knowing snakebite treatments. The guidelines of Shenzhen Emergency Medical Center may help you in the event
of a snakebite.
It is most important to call 120 immediately. Describe the snake—colour, pattern and size. A photo of the
snake is helpful for doctors to know it for treatment. Once you’ve called 120, your job is to stay as calm as possible
before reaching the hospital—fear makes the spread of venom much quicker. Slowly back away, once at a safe
distance, keep as still as possible, you can gently clean the bitten area with clean water while waiting for medical
help to slow the spread of venom.
24. How does the writer start the passage
A. By sharing thoughts. B. By giving examples.
C. By asking questions. D. By comparing numbers.
25. Why do snakes bite humans
A. To attack humans for fun. B. To attract humans’ attention.
C. To show their brave nature. D. To protect themselves from danger.
26. Which picture might show the change of readers’ attitude when reading the passage
A. B. C.

①PUA stands for “Pick-up Artist.” It started as a term for people who use clever ways to influence their
interactions (交流) with others, especially between lovers. This idea has grown, and now it also means people use
tricks to control others in the workplace and online. It’s very helpful to know about PUA because it can deeply
influence how you feel about your development. Here are some common behaviors to be careful.
②Sometimes people who use PUA tricks criticize a lot. They might tell you that you’re always doing things
wrong. It is just a way to make you feel sorry about yourself rather than helping you improve. They may also try to
keep you away from your friends and family. This makes you depend on them, and gives them more control over
you. Another trick is called gaslighting (煤气灯效应). For example, you remember something clearly, but they
keep saying it didn’t happen. They want you to doubt (怀疑) what you know is true.
③To avoid PUA behaviors, there are several steps you can take. First, learn to tell what healthy friendships
and relationships look like. Being confident is also important because it will be not so easy for others to trick you.
Besides, you should be brave to say no when something feels wrong. What’s more, talking to someone you trust
like a teacher can be very useful.
④Knowing these signs and how to deal with them can help you have better relationships. It’s like building a
strong foundation (基础) for happy and healthy relationships as you get older.
27. What is TRUE about PUA behavior
A. PUA only happens between lovers.
B. People may use PUA to control others in workplace and online.
C. PUA can help you have better relationships when you get older.
D. PUA will influence how other people think of you and your development.
28. Which of the following sentence shows the underlined word “criticize”
A. “If you have any problems, you can ask me for help.”
B. “Sorry, it didn’t happen. I think you didn’t remember well.”
C. “You are always making mistakes! What you do is wrong!”
D. “Keep away from your friend, or you will become a bad student, too.”
29. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about
第 7页/共 17页
A. Steps to use PUA to control others. B. Reasons for why students can’t use PUA.
C. Ways to build a healthy relationship. D. Advice on how to avoid PUA behaviors.
30. What is the best title for the text
A. Say “NO” to PUA! B. Let’s PUA Together!

I disliked hiking in the past, but now I enjoy it. My father and I had a hiking trip on
MacLehose Trail in Hong Kong. The journey was harder than I expected. My legs started
burning after just 30 minutes. But as we climbed higher, the amazing views—green hills,
golden beaches, and endless ocean—seemed under my feet. There’s an old Chinese saying.
“When you climb to the top, all other mountains seem small.” That’s exactly how I felt. Every
drop of sweat counts!
8:17 p.m. 31 May
“I feel free and peaceful.” This was my answer to my friend when she asked me how I felt
after an afternoon walk. As we walked through the park, I noticed all those fallen leaves with
different shapes and colours lying on the ground. I picked some up and made them into a
picture.
You know what they say, “The best things in life are free.” That’s so true. By walking, I
got good exercise. By collecting these little treasures, I started paying attention to all the small
things around me that I used to miss. It was like an escape from what was troubling me.

How to Deal with Negative Emotions
Teenagers often face negative emotions like sadness, anger and anxiety in their daily lives. These feelings
usually come from stress at school, fights with friends, or pressure from parents.
To deal with them in healthy ways, first, we can talk to someone we trust, such as parents or teachers, to share
our feelings. Second, doing exercise like running or playing sports can help us relax and let out bad feelings. Third,
listening to music or reading a book is also a good way to calm down.
In fact, it is normal to have negative emotions. Don’t keep them to yourself. Always remember to love
