Have you heard of the phrase “tiger moms” It means mothers who are strict 1
their children. They believe that this encourages kids 2 to become the best they can
be.
Many believe that most Asian people often put their children’s studies above 3
else. Western parents, on the other hand, are seen as caring much 4 about their
children’s self-esteem (自尊) and feelings.
Of course, 5 truth is not that simple. Every parent has their own way of 6
their child – no matter where they come from. I know one parent in the US 7 takes
her daughter to all kinds of after-school activities, 8 her with no time to herself. And
there are plenty of Chinese parents who spoil (溺爱 ) their children. For example, some
parents fix their kids’ hair or tie their shoes, even 9 their kids are old enough to do
such things.
I think parenting 10 a mix of both strong discipline (管教) and emotional care.
My own mother is a good example. She expected me to get high grades and I 11 to
take piano lessons. 12 she was also generous about allowing me to have some
time to myself to do 13 I wanted. In the end, I felt like 14 a better person
because of this. Even those piano lessons that I disliked at first ended up helping me find
my love 15 music.

第一节 阅读理解(每题 2分,满分 30分)
(A)
In December 2018, I had just become a professional photographer and
was working on a project about people who live on the sea, known as sea
nomads (游牧民族 ). I was living with some of them on a small island in
Southern Thailand. We didn’t share a language and depended on body language to
communicate.
I went out to sea with them regularly. One morning, I was about to set out with a group
of six fishermen in a small boat. The sea looked different, with the water totally still.
About 20 minutes after we left and a few miles out in the open sea, one of the
fishermen pointed to a small white spot far in the distance. It was getting bigger and bigger
very quickly. This was a tsunami (海啸) wave speeding through the ocean.
Usually, the deeper the water, the weaker the wave. But we weren’t out far enough to
be safe, nor close enough to shore to make it back in time. We were stuck. I began to feel
really scared.
The captain told the six of us where to sit, so we would balance out the boat. My
camera was in my backpack. I wanted to capture the scene, but I couldn’t. Any movement
would imbalance the boat. Suddenly there was a huge noise. The wave hit the boat, but in a
flash the skilled captain managed to swerve (使突然转向) us up and onto the wave. Then
the boat moved from the tip of the wave down into safe waters. Our eyes and mouths were
wide open, and everyone let out heavy sighs. The captain had saved us all.
Surviving gave me a deep understanding of how important life can be. I’ve been going
back to Southeast Asia almost every year since. The photography project has become a
thank-you to the people who saved my life. The picture I wanted to take on the boat
3
remains “the one that got away” – I think every photographer has one. But mine changed
my life.

BEIJING/ SAO PAULO -- Chinese traditions like cockfighting, kite-flying and fireworks
have been quite common in Brazil for many years.
Despite the thousands of kilometers between them, China’s historical and artistic mark
on Brazil has existed for about 300 years, said Brazilian sinologist (汉学家) Jose Roberto
4
Teixeira Leite in his book China in Brazil. “Influences from China can date from the colonial
period, even up to the time before Brazil’s independence.” The commercial relationship
between the two countries has existed for a long time, he noted, adding that incoming ships
would fill up Brazilian cities like Salvador, Rio de Janeiro and Recife with Chinese products
like porcelain (瓷器), silk and fans. He also found Chinese influence not only in the arts and
architecture of Brazil but also in the most different areas of Brazilian society, like the
economy, medicine and popular culture. “At the end of the 19th century, in Pernambuco, (a
state in northeastern Brazil), there was a custom that children slept with clothes decorated
with Chinese dragons.” Teixeira added.
The book took him about 15 years to finish. “The impact of the book surprised me,
though it was published by a university publisher and it had a print run of just 1,000 copies,”
he said. “Some have said that the book represents a turning point in Chinese studies in
Brazil.”
Besides, the sinologist did research on the mark and presence of China in the
architecture and arts of Brazil. “It was through art that China awoke in me, first, curiosity,
after that, interest, and finally, passion,” Teixeira said.
In 2018, the sinologist visited Macao to do research for his doctoral thesis about the
marks and presence of China in Brazil, and that trip impressed him a lot. In 2023, Teixeira
had a chance to visit the Chinese cities of Beijing, Shenzhen and Shanghai, and got to
know “the past and present of the great country culturally, as well as its incredible
development.”
30. What does the underlined sentence imply (暗示)
A. Brazilian children’s love for dragons as Chinese children.
B. The development of China-Brazil frequent trade cooperation.
C. A further understanding of the cultures of the two countries.
D. China’s influence on the most different areas of Brazilian society.
31. What marks a new stage of Chinese studies for Brazilian
A. The sinologist’s book.
B. The sinologist’s traveling.
C. Children’s clothes.
5
D. China’s porcelain.
32. What fired the sinologist’s passion for Chinese studies
A. Chinese customs.
B. The history of China.
C. Chinese art.
D. China’s development.
33. What is the best title for this passage
A. China and Brazil in Eyes of Sinologist
B. The Impression of China on Sinologist.
C. An Introduction to Sinologist’s New Book
D. The Future of China-Brazil Trade Relations
(C)
Think about the last time you went to an art or history museum. Which pieces of
artifacts (文物) stood out to you Did you read the introduction next to them Did it tell you
where the artifacts were from and how the museums got them
Today, many museums around the world own art and artifacts that were stolen or
looted (掠夺) from their original countries during war or colonial rule. You may see ancient
Chinese paintings shown in the British Museum, or sculptures from Africa that date back to
the 19th century on display in the Louvre Museum. Many countries have asked European
museums to repatriate the artifacts.
The debate over whether and how museums should give back artifacts to their original
countries has been going on for many years. Those who suggest returning all foreign
artifacts to their homes insist that it is morally (道义上) the right thing to do. Furthermore,
the country owning the objects will receive an important part of their heritage back, and
these artifacts will be given a chance to be truly valued in their homeland.
Yet there are different voices. Those against the return point out that some foreign
artifacts were not stolen but bought a long time ago. Also, it is sometimes hard to identify
(确认) the true owners of certain artifacts—should they be returned to the country, a group
or an individual There is also a view that culture is a shared treasure and the artifacts are
6
in fact “cultural ambassadors (大使 )” that improve understanding. They believe that while
taking them away from their countries of origin was wrong, history is full of “good” and “bad”
actors. Moreover, they feel that keeping the cultural objects in the current museums has
kept millions of artifacts safe from damage.
On the matter of return, some governments have made the move. In 2018, French
President Emmanuel Macron told officially that France would give back 26 looted treasures
to the African state of Benin. “I cannot accept that a large part of cultural heritage from
several African countries is in France,” said Macron. It’s said to be part of France’s
long-promised plans to return artifacts taken from Africa during the colonial rule.
Museums all across Europe began reconsidering their previous policies on colonial
treasures. In France, twenty-seven artifacts had been identified for return, but only one has
been returned. Then, on October 6, 2020, France’s National Assembly officially passed a
bill (法案 ) promising the return of these heritage artifacts, but didn’t fix a certain date. It
seems that there is still a long way to go for the return of foreign heritage treasures.
34. The underlined word “repatriate” in paragraph 2 probably means______.
A. protect B. show C. return D. borrow
35. People who consider foreign artifacts as “cultural ambassadors” may agree that ______.
A. mistakes in history need correcting in time
B. heritage artifacts belong to all the human beings
C. artifacts will be better protected in their homeland
D. history museum tours will be popular in the future
36. What can we learn from the passage
A. French museums refused to identify all the colonial treasures.
B. Policies and bills have no use in protecting foreign heritage treasures.
C. The treasures stolen or looted can hardly be back to their homeland soon.
D. Governments have the duty to keep foreign treasures in good protection.
37. By writing this passage, the writer wants to ______.
A. explain how and why many foreign treasures were stolen or looted
B. advise governments to take actions in returning foreign treasures
C. encourage us to take part in the debate over stolen or looted treasures
7
D. show different views and present situation on the return of treasures

第三节
Dear Simon,
I’m very glad to tell you that Chinese Spring Festival has been added to the UNESCO
World Heritage. Since the main color of the festival—Chinese red attracts you very much, I’
m writing to tell you something about it.
You can enjoy a lot of red things at the Spring Festival, such as red packets, red
Chinese paper-cutting, red candles and so on. Many things are red because we Chinese
think red can bring us good luck and happiness.
In our daily life, red is used a lot as well. If we require strength in either body or mind,
we can wear red because it represents power. When we have difficulty making a decision,
we can also use red because it represents strong feelings too and wearing red can make it
easier to take action.
As for me, I like red a lot. On the one hand, it is the colour of heat and it can make me
feel warm in winter. On the other hand, when I see the red national flag, I always feel very
proud of my country and it always reminds me to work harder for my future.
13
I hope my letter will help you understand Chinese red well.
Yours,
Li Ping
