On earth, we use bricks(砖块) to build houses, but what about building houses on the moon Well, we will use moon bricks to build a research station.
For that purpose, scientists in China have developed special moon bricks. Astronauts will live and work on the moon when China builds a research station between 2028 and 2035.
These bricks are made from five different kinds of simulated lunar soil(模拟月壤). To make them hard, scientists use three different ways. As a result, these moon bricks are three times stronger than the red bricks on earth. They also work like Lego bricks for easy assembly(组装).
Building a research station on the moon is an exciting but difficult project. Scientists must find out if these bricks can work well in the moon's harsh(恶劣的) environment. A day on the moon can last as long as 29.5 days on earth, and there is a big fluctuation in temperature. It gets as hot as about 120℃ during the day and as cold as about -170℃ at night. What's worse, moonquakes(月震) often happen there.
In November 2024, the Tianzhou-8 spacecraft successfully carried the simulated lunar soil bricks to China's Space Station. Scientists would carry out tests to see how well the bricks work in space. If all goes according to plans, the first moon brick can return to the earth at the end of 2025.
