My name is Jake, and I will never forget the summer I turned thirteen. It wasn't because of a fun birthday party, but because of the great flood that hit our small town.
It started with heavy rain. For two days, the sky was dark grey, and the rain just wouldn't stop. My parents looked worried. The news on the radio warned about a big storm and possible flooding. We lived near a small river, which was usually peaceful.
On the third night, the electricity went out, leaving us in complete darkness. Dad lit some candles. "The river is rising too fast," he said, his voice serious. "We need to go to the second floor. Now."
We hurried upstairs, carrying blankets, water, and a flashlight. From the window, it was scary to see our quiet street turn into a moving river. Our car was almost completely under water.
The next morning, the rain finally stopped. We looked outside. Our garden was gone, covered in thick, brown mud(泥). Broken branches and rubbish were everywhere. It was a sad sight.
But then, something amazing happened. People started coming out of their houses. Everyone was tired and dirty, but they began to help each other. Mr. Evans from next door used his boat to check on elderly people. My dad and other men worked together to move a big fallen tree from the road. My mom and I helped at the community centre, giving out sandwiches and clean water to those who lost their homes.
Now, when it rains heavily, I still feel a little nervous. But I also remember that we rebuilt our town, and we rebuilt it together.

Why are your study habits different from those of your friends Why do you seem to learn faster in some classes while more slowly in others One reason you may not know is that people have different types(类型). Scientists say there are three different learning types: Visual(视觉型), Auditory(听觉型) and Kinesthetic(动觉型).
Visual learners learn best by seeing. If you seem to easily remember information from pictures, graphs(图表) and videos, you are probably a visual learner. You're not good at copying down what the teacher says in class. Never mind. You can draw graphs or pictures instead, if you find that works better for you.
Auditory learners learn best by hearing. If you seem to easily remember things by hearing them, then you are probably an auditory learner. You must listen carefully while the teacher is speaking because it's the easiest way for you to learn. Sometimes you may find that taking notes stops you from listening carefully. After class, you can write down what you remember or borrow your friend's notes to copy.
Kinesthetic learners learn best by doing. If you seem to learn best by working with your hands, you are probably a kinesthetic learner. Taking notes by writing can make you pay close attention to information as you receive it. Of course, you can learn best by making full use of labs or other class activities.
Hope you learn better by knowing what your personal learning type is.
6. There are different learning types according to the passage.
A. two B. three C. four D. five

A. Listening to the teacher's words carefully.
B. Drawing graphs or pictures to remember information.
C. Taking notes while the teacher is speaking.
D. Doing hands-on activities in labs.
10.What is the main idea of the passage
A. How to take good notes in class.

Secondly, we must obey traffic rules on the way to and from school. Cross the road at zebra crossings and wait for the green light. Don’t look at mobile phones while walking or riding bikes, as it’s easy to cause accidents.
Finally, if we face danger, stay calm first. We can ask teachers, parents or policemen for help immediately. Remembering some emergency numbers is also useful.
In short, safety comes first. Only by keeping these tips in mind can we grow up happily and healthily.
