It is the first and likely the only drive-in theater to be powered by wind energy. It also adopts other green practices, including using LED lighting and recycled materials. With relaxing atmosphere, this theatre is definitely an enjoyable choice for families and groups.Bengies Drive-In, Middle River, Maryland

“We regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you a place in our Fall 2020 program.” These were the words I feared to see five years ago when I received the reply from my dream college. While there were words like how competitive the program was and how talented I was, all this felt like a Howler letter from Harry Potter telling me I wasn’t good enough.
Soon I received the acceptance letter from another college -Baldwin Wallace University along with a half scholarship. Yet, I couldn’t shake the feeling that all the efforts in senior high is a waste of time. My life seemed to be put on pause.
But later my college years made me realize everything happened for a reason. If I had got into my dream school, I wouldn’t have known my best friends, who have taught me what true friendship looks like. I wouldn’t have met my voice teacher, who has been a key ingredient behind my success in the performing arts field. I wouldn’t have realized the importance of continuous efforts and determination, and I for sure would not have the opportunitics to perform in amazing theaters all over the US, Canada, and Europe. And I wouldn’t have been invited to the publication Her Campus to share my college life.
Failure to get into the dream school is a real blow, and grief is an unavoidable part of the process. But at some point, you have to stop feeling sorry for yourself because which school you go to does not define you. It is the things you believe in and stand up for that truly define and shape you. Just keep moving on and opportunities will come your way.

A.She had no talent for the program. B.She failed to get the college reply.

A.She reconnected with old friends.
B.She met an excellent voice teacher.
C.She set up a theatre club in college.
D.She got a job offer from a publisher.
27.What’s the best title of the text
A.Hard Work Outweighs Talent
B.Opportunity Knocks But Once
C.Try Again, Fail Again, Fail Better
D.Dream School Said No, Dreams Still Grow
Jamie Goldfarb had finished reading the last bedtime book to Kai, her three-year-old son, when he said “Mommy, I’m hungry!” — a trick he’d been using lately. As Goldfarb turned to grab some cookies in the kitchen, she heard him say under his breath, “Yay! One more book! Clever me!”
Goldfarb was worried about Kai’s action, but experts would say that lying actually provides a rich workout for developing brains. That’s why the ability to lie develops over time. Starting around two years old, a child is probably going to tell his very first lie to avoid getting in trouble but he hasn’t yet gained the complete control of his actions. So young kids might tell the truth or start laughing when parents question their version of events. Older preschool-age children tend to lie to get parents’ praise. As children enter elementary school, they’ve started to develop a sense of empathy (共情) and that’s when those little white lies usually show up. And hiding their activities is one way teens struggle for independence from parents.
Parents might feel their trust has been strained when they catch their children being untruthful, but experts suggest parents focus on the behavior they ‘d like a child to display and use language that encourages truth telling. And nothing works better than parents setting an example of truthfulness.
Although lies might put parents as well as kids in unpleasant situations, the ability to lie — and lie well — is a key part of a child’s social and emotional development. But parents should still keep an eye on the red flags that might mean a child needs parental guidance.
28.Why did Kai lie to his mother
A.To plan a surprise. B.To play a joke.
C.To get extra storytime. D.To ask for food.
29.Which might be a lie made by older preschool-age children
A.Your haircut looks nice! B.My phone died so I couldn’t text you!
C.I didn’t do it! It was the dog! D.I can do the impossible Math, Mom!
30.What’s the meaning of the underlined word “strained” in paragraph 3
A.Weakened. B.Improved. C.Maintained. D.Rebuilt,
31.What might the author continue talking about
A.Punishment for kids’ lies,
B.The science behind kids’ lies.
C.Warning signs parents should watch for.
D.Parenting mistakes that should be avoided.
As African forest elephants make their way through the rainforest and search for food, they do a lot of damage to the surrounding plants. They step on, knock over, and remove leaves and branches off trees. In many people’s eyes, they make a broken mess, which has raised people’s concern that they are harming the rainforest ecosystem and may contribute to global warming.
Actually, the elephants’ eating and destruction help with the climate change. How As they walk through the forest, they thin out young trees that are competing for space, water, and light. As a result, the larger trees grow better, which have the ability to absorb and store more CO2. Meanwhile, lower forest density (密度) enables grasses to grow. Fallen trees make it possible for more light to reach the ground, benefiting the growth of grasses and a more balanced ecosystem. The enlarged grassland contributes to more carbon capture. According to a 2019 study, each forest elephant unknowingly helps the forest pull carbon out of the air — like taking 2047 cars off roads a year. African forest elephants act as “climate heroes”, trying to create a healthy ecosystem and slow climate change.
Unfortunately, the number of forest elephants has fallen by more than 86% over 31 years, and their living area is now only a quarter of their original size. According to the wildlife scientist Fiona Maisels, between 2002 and 2013, elephants were lost at the rate of 60 a day, or about one every 20 minutes.
Now Ralph Chami, assistant director of the Institute for Capacity Development at the International Monetary Fund, wants to put a better value on forest elephants. Instead of focusing on how much the elephants need us to save them, he thinks we should focus on how much we need them to save us. These four-legged giants aren’t passengers on our planet; they are heroes protecting it.
32.What’s people’s impression of the African forest elephant according to paragraph 1
A.A destroyer of forest ecosystem.
B.A connector of forest food chain.
C.A helper of rainforest’s structure.
D.A contributor to environment protection.
33.What is the effect of elephants’ behaviors on the forest
A.Better growth of young trees. B.Larger living space for animals.
C.Higher absorption of carbon. D.Greater competition among plants.
34.What do the numbers in paragraph 3 show
A.The great loss of forest resources. B.The urgency of protecting the forest.
C.The value of collecting exact data. D.The sharp fall in elephant population.
35.What is Ralph Chami’s point of view
A.Elephants’ survival is our survival.
B.We need to recognize the forest value.
C.Saving the planet is building our future.
D.We are supposed to protect giant animals.

I loved exploring forests, observing plants, and listening to the chirping of birds with Jimmy, my little brother. Mom was always there with her camera, capturing each wonderful moment. These photos were arranged in an album. It held the sweet memories of my family, and I was never bored with opening it, as it always filled me with warmth. Life was simple until I asked for a new electronic game for my birthday. I was well-behaved, so my parents fulfilled my wish. But then everything changed.
The game was so amazing. As soon as I switched on the device, my ears stopped hearing external sounds. My back ached, but I couldn’t stop.
“Davey, wanna go out and play ” asked Jimmy, holding the ball.
“No, thanks,” I refused, without a second thought.
“But all our friends are waiting! You’ve been staying here every day playing that game,” Jimmy urged. I finally tore my eyes away, my voice sharp. “Can’t you see I’m busy Go play without me!” With that, Jimmy stormed out, his face reddened with anger.
Outside in the forest, the kids played ball and hide-and-seek, having loads of fun, while I spent the whole afternoon in the sofa, absorbed in the game until it was dark. It was days before I realized I hadn’t seen Jimmy around.
Each day brought a fresh battle. I resisted, but finally gave in. My fingers danced across the buttons as hours slipped by. Around 9 PM, Mom came and placed a glass of milk beside me.“Time for bed,” she whispered. I saw her worries — how could I not But click-clack noise covered Mom’s voice. When the final boss fell, my eyes burned. Walking half-asleep towards the bed, I noticed a photo album on the bedside table. The worn cover brought back memories.

W: Good evening. It is an honor to have my voice heard. Recently many sharks have been swimming close to beaches because their habitats are being destroyed by people. This makes me worried. The ocean is getting dirtier, so sharks can no longer find safe places to live in deep water.
But you know, sharks may accidentally get beached when getting too close to the beach. Once beached, sharks will face problems and may eventually die. I have researched a lot about this and published my findings in a scientific journal. To better protect sharks, a shark tracking project will start soon. Fishermen and tourists could help by recording their roots and sharing photos. I hope you guys can join us to protect sharks.

67.Absorbed in the photos, I didn’t notice Mom standing beside me. She bent down and joined me. Pointing at a photo of Jimmy and me in the forest, both covered in mud, she whispered, “Remember how happy you were out there ” Guilt washed over me as I realized how much I missed those days with Jimmy. That night, I lay awake, thinking about everything I’d passed by while glued to the screen. I made a decision.
Early next morning, ball in hand, I knocked on Jimmy’s door. His sleepy eyes widened in surprise. “Want to play outside ” I asked. Jimmy nodded happily. We rushed to the woods, laughter echoing among the trees; we played ball in the open field, shouts mixing with bird chirps; we lay flat on the grass, clouds painting our dreams with ease. I suddenly felt a recovered sense of peace, a feeling brought not by the silly screen, but the company of loved ones.
