From a young age, I collected role models. In school, as a teenager, I tried to channel Whitney Houston. In the working world, I paid close attention to our female senior managers. By watching and imitating others-especially women of color who looked or sounded like me-I gained confidence in my own abilities.
But when I started my own company, my pool of role models became smaller. Only 2.1% of risk investment goes to women-founded companies. “Who can I look up to ” I wondered. “Who can I learn from ” I decided to create an inspiration wall in my office, with photos of the role models I could see-women like Oprah, Michelle Obama, and Vicky, co-founder of a skincare brand. I never thought I’d meet these women, but their success gave me hope.
Then one day, a couple of years ago, I surprised myself with a thought: what if I did reach out to one of my role models I feared rejection, but my desire for connection was stronger. I chose Vicky, whose journey had long inspired me. I didn’t have her email address. So I tried a cold Instagram message, and she responded the next day!
That was in 2022. We’ve spoken numerous times since, and the conversations have been invaluable. They’re rare chances to gain guidance from a successful woman. But here’s the most valuable lesson I gained: when Vicky first replied to me, I wasn’t the only one excited. Vicky was excited too-because she’s always looking for ways to support other women. All my life, I’d thought of role models as a one-way relationship: I’d gain strength from someone stronger. But the situation is more than that.
I once sent Vicky a care package from my sunglasses company. She wrote me a thank-you note, and texted a selfie of her and her daughter wearing my products. Today, I keep that letter on my desk next to my keyboard—a reminder that just as I believe in her, she believes in me. We’re all here to help each other grow.
24.How did the author build up her confidence
A.By cooperating with women of color. B.By observing and copying her models.
C.By making friends with persons like her. D.By starting her own sunglasses company.
25.What is the author’s intention of creating an inspiration wall in her office
A.To inspire her employees’ creativity. B.To make her workplace more attractive.
C.To encourage herself to achieve success. D.To improve her employees’ work efficiency.
26.Why did the author choose to reach out to Vicky
A.She was afraid of being rejected. B.She only had Vicky’s email address.
C.Vicky’s story had always motivated her. D.Vicky liked giving guidance to other women.
27.What can be concluded according to the text
A.Practice makes perfect. B.Strength flows both ways.
C.A good beginning is half done. D.Actions speak louder than words.

Scientists from the University of Otago’s Christchurch Medical School have discovered a direct connection between people’s vitamin C intake and their skin’s ability to produce collagen (胶原蛋白)and renew itself. The study, published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, clearly shows that skin health is influenced by vitamin C from daily food, not just by topical (外用的)creams applied to the skin surface. It also found that vitamin C levels in the skin are closely related to those in the blood. Therefore, eating more foods rich in vitamin C can effectively increase vitamin C levels in both the blood and the skin.
The research included 24 healthy adults from New Zealand and Germany. Those eating two SunGold kiwifruits daily raised blood vitamin C levels and saw a clear increase in skin vitamin C. This made skin thicker — due to more collagen — and sped up outer skin renewal. Lead researcher Professor Margreet Vissers described the results as surprising and said the strong connection between skin thickness and vitamin C intake is fully believable.
She noted the connection between blood and skin vitamin C is clearer than in other organs. “We were surprised by how closely blood vitamin C levels are connected to those in the skin,” she said. The research team also discovered that vitamin C in the blood can reach all layers of the skin and help the skin work better. Though vitamin C is often added to skincare products, it is not well taken in through the outer skin. However, skin cells can take in vitamin C from the blood very well.
SunGold kiwifruits were chosen for the study because they always have a high vitamin C content. But the researchers believe other foods rich in vitamin C, such as oranges and berries, can bring similar benefits to the skin. It is important to keep steady vitamin C levels in the blood because the human body does not store vitamin C for a long time. Professor Vissers suggested that healthy people can reach the best blood vitamin C levels with about 250mg of vitamin C every day through their diet.
28.What affects skin health according to the study
A.Water taken in by the skin. B.Vitamin C from food intake.
C.Collagen from skin products. D.Topical skincare creams alone.
29.What is Professor Vissers’ attitude towards the study results
A.Doubtful. B.Approving. C.Unconcerned. D.Objective.
30.Why are vitamin C-rich skincare products less effective
A.They lack enough collagen. B.They are not used in a proper way.
C.They don’t suit all skin types. D.They are poorly taken in through skin.
31.What is the best title for the passage
A.Vitamin C Intake and Skin Health B.Blood Vitamin C and Skin Vitamin C
C.Skincare Products and Vitamin C Intake D.Collagen Production and Skin Thickness

A team in Norway recently conducted in-depth research on writing by hand and typing on a keyboard.
The team invited 36 university students who had to either write or type words displayed on a screen. The study participants used a digital pen to write in cursive (草书) on a touchscreen, and they used one finger on a keyboard to type. The researchers used a special cap with 256 sensors. This cap was worn by the students, and their brain activity was recorded for five seconds each time they were asked to write or type.
“We show that when writing by hand, brain connectivity patterns are far more complex than when typewriting on a keyboard,” says Professor Audrey van der Meer, the team leader. “Such widespread brain connectivity is known to be important for memory formation and for encoding (编码) new information and, therefore, is beneficial for learning.” The researchers also note that even though the participants used digital pens for writing in the study, they believe the findings would be similar if the participants used an ink pen and paper.
“We’ve shown that the differences in brain activity are related to the careful forming of the letters when writing by hand while making more use of the senses. Since it’s the movement of the fingers carried out when forming letters that promotes brain connectivity, writing in print also has similar benefits for learning as cursive writing,” Audrey adds. “This also explains why children who have learned to write and read on a tablet can have difficulty distinguishing between letters that are mirror images of each other, such as ‘b’ and ‘d’. They haven’t felt with their bodies what it feels like to produce those letters.”
Considering handwritten note-taking is becoming less common in educational settings, the researchers advocate for more opportunities for students to write by hand. “There’s some evidence that students learn more and remember better when taking handwritten lecture notes, while using a computer with a keyboard may be more pragmatic when writing a long text or essay,” Audrey concludes.
32.What was the special cap used to do
A.Measure the participants’ brain activity. B.Evaluate the participants’ writing styles.
C.Tell the participants when to write or type. D.Record the time the participants used to write.
33.What does paragraph 3 focus on about the study
A.Its backgrounds. B.Its equipment.
C.Its outcomes. D.Its process.
34.What plays the key role in strengthening brain connectivity
A.Writing letters carefully by hand. B.Forming the habit of taking notes.
C.Recognizing letters’ mirror images. D.Learning to practice cursive writing.
35.What is Audrey’s attitude towards handwritten note-taking
A.Critical B.Tolerant C.Ambiguous D.Approving

How to Build a Lifelong Reading Habit
In today’s fast-paced digital world, developing a lasting reading habit brings significant benefits. It expands knowledge, enhances thinking skills, and provides stress relief. 36 Here are practical ways to make reading a regular part of life.
Select books that genuinely interest you
The main obstacle to regular reading is choosing books that feel like obligations. 37 If you enjoy mysteries, pick mystery novels; if you like science, explore popular science books. Reading becomes enjoyable when you love what you read.
38
Many abandon reading because they set unrealistic goals like finishing a book daily. Such goals can lead to frustration and make you lose interest quickly. Instead, aim for 10 pages each morning or 20 minutes at night. Stay flexible — adjust your goal when busy rather than quitting entirely.
Create a dedicated reading space and time
Our brains naturally associate specific settings with activities. 39 Choose a comfortable chair or quiet corner, and pair it with a regular time — like after meals or before sleep — to make reading automatic. Join reading communities or share progress with others
Reading needn’t be alone. 40 Book clubs offer supportive communities where members gain new perspectives and maintain motivation through discussion. You can also share reading experiences on social media.
Anyway, building lifelong habits takes time. It’s okay to occasionally skip reading — just return to it consistently. Over time, reading will become a natural and rewarding part of your life.
A.Set achievable targets.
B.Try audio books during commute.
C.This makes habit formation much easier.
D.Reading groups provide a supportive community for readers.
E.The secret is to find books that match your hobbies and passions.
F.A quiet and comfortable space helps you focus better on reading.
G.However, many people struggle to maintain a regular reading practice.

第二节 满分25分
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Six-year-old Leo was born with a problem in his right leg. He needed a stick to walk. When he said he wanted to learn swimming, his whole family was surprised. “In the water, there’s no ground to stop me. I can ‘run’ like everyone else,” Leo said, holding his hands closely with strong hope in his eyes.
When Leo walked into the swimming pool for the first time, the cold water reached his stomach. Suddenly, his right leg lost control, and he started to sink (下沉). Coach Lisa quickly caught him and said softly, “Don’t be afraid. The water will hold you up.” But the training was much harder than Leo had thought. Kicking, which others learned easily, made Leo struggle a lot. His right leg just couldn’t move in the proper way. He could only swim two meters before choking (窒息) on water.
After about one month, Leo watched other kids swimming freely. He sat by the pool and wiped his tears: “I can never do this. I want to give up.” His mom sat by his side and said, “Look, Leo. At first, you couldn’t even stand in the water. But now you can swim five meters — that’s progress!” Coach Lisa also came over with a float (浮板): “Let’s try a new way. We’ ll practice using your left arm to swim first, and use a float for your right leg.”
The days of trying again were still full of challenges. One night, Leo’s right leg hurt so badly that he couldn’t fall asleep at all. The next morning, Leo refused to go to the pool, but his mother still drove him there. When Coach Lisa came to check on him, she brought along some good news. “The city’s disabled swimming competition is coming soon,” Coach Lisa said. “You’re getting faster and stronger, Leo. And I’ve signed you up for this competition.”

Dear Jim,
I’m excited to accept your invitation! It would be my pleasure to be your guide in Harbin. I can’t wait to show you around my hometown this winter.
Here are two must-try activities. First, visit the Ice and Snow World, where you’ll be amazed by magnificent ice sculptures lit up at night — truly a winter wonderland! Second, try ice skating on Songhua River. It’s a unique local tradition and great fun.
As for preparation, bring warm clothing since temperatures can drop below -20°C. Also, book accommodation early as January is peak tourist season.
Looking forward to your arrival!
Yours,
Li Hua
One possible version:
Hearing those words, Leo felt greatly encouraged. He forgot the pain in his right leg at once and looked at Coach Lisa with bright eyes. Every day after that, he trained harder than before. He practiced arm strokes hundreds of times until his shoulders ached, and kept trying kicking even when his leg felt weak. His mom cheered for him by the pool, and Coach Lisa always corrected his postures patiently. Leo never complained again — he knew the competition was his chance to prove he could do it. He even started to imagine himself swimming bravely in the pool, with everyone cheering for him.
The competition day soon came, and Leo appeared at the starting point confidently. He knew he was well prepared. When the gun rang, he jumped into the water and swam as hard as he could. His right leg still didn’t move as smoothly as others, but he tried his best to push forward. The cheers from his family and Coach Lisa kept him going. Finally, he touched the finish line! Though he took third place, Leo raised his head proudly with tears of joy. Holding the medal, he realized he had not only shown everyone he could swim, but also found true freedom in the water — freedom from limits, freedom to chase his dreams.
