A chef named Korean Draper finds her culinary (烹饪) comfort zone. Draper, who grew up surrounded by cooking, didn’t consider a career in the food industry until she left her previous job to care for her mother and a newborn baby. During this period, she spent much time on cookbooks, Food Network shows, and food experiments, forming a deep connection with food that later shaped her professional path. When ready to re-enter the workforce, she set non-negotiable criteria for her new job: It’d have to involve food and people.
Draper initially secured an office role at a corporate catering (餐饮) company near her home outside Philadelphia. However, when she stepped in to assist the kitchen during a period of operational pressure tied to workforce limitations, her boss recognized her potential and offered a permanent shift to culinary work. Starting with simple tasks like salad preparation, she quickly advanced to more complex dishes, fueled by a passion she describes as “a burning fire” once lit. Balancing work and learning, she signed up for culinary classes — an opportunity she’d previously thought unattainable — and rose to the position of general manager.
Fifteen years into her role, Draper wondered if she should try a new career. Yet, no alternative satisfied her as deeply as cooking. A chance introduction to a family seeking a private chef opened a new chapter. Unaware of this special area in the food industry, she began planning meals, grocery shopping, and cooking in clients’ homes, uncovering a need for tailored culinary solutions among busy or uninterested cooks. Using her website Korea’s Kitchen, she expanded her client base, eventually moving from private homes to a church basement kitchen and specializing in family meals and catering.
Driven to grow her business, Draper sought her own kitchen space, a goal achieved through networking. In her new venue, she hosts tastings, cooking classes, and catered events. Today, as a leader of an eight-person team, she remains rooted in her core mission: connecting people through food.
4.What do we know about Draper from paragraph 2
A.She considered food career early. B.She ignored her family needs.
C.She had clear new job requirements. D.She lacked cooking experience.
5.Why did Draper go to help the kitchen while working in an office
A.She wanted extra income. B.A staff shortage occurred.
C.Her boss demanded it. D.She sought promotion.
6.What made Draper feel the demand for personalized culinary services
A.Clients’ strict diets. B.A family’s request.
C.Food industry trends. D.Her website feedback.
7.What can we learn from Draper’s career story
A.Education guarantees success. B.Family limits one’s career.
C.One’s skills beat one’s planning. D.Passion drives new growth.
Ask Google’s AI video tool to create a film of a time-travelling doctor who flies around in a blue British phone booth and the result, unsurprisingly, resembles (类似) Doctor Who. And if you ask OpenAI’s technology to do the same, a similar thing happens. What’s wrong with that, you may think The answer could be one of the biggest issues AI chiefs face as their era-defining technology becomes ever more widespread in our lives.
Google and OpenAI’s generative artificial intelligence is supposed to be just that — generative, meaning it develops novel answers to our questions. But how much of that output is original The problem is working out how much AI tools like Sora 2 and Veo 3 rely on someone else’s art to come up with their own inventions. One firm, however, claims to be able to shine a light on the issue.
TraceID by Vermillio can detect the percentage to which AI-generated content is based on copyrighted materials. One of the platform’s abilities is to create neural fingerprints for brands, characters or other IP. These fingerprints act as digital identifiers that map the unique characteristics of a given piece of content. By comparing this fingerprint against AI-generated content, it can determine how much the new content overlaps (重合) with the original, offering a percentage-based match.
The research showcases this process in action, using well-known films such as Doctor Who and James Bond as case studies. The findings Sora matched up to 62% with James Bond fingerprint, Google’s Veo 3 matched 80% to Doctor Who fingerprint, implying that they have leaned heavily on copyright-protected work to produce its output.
Many creative professionals demand compensation and an end to unauthorized use of their work until permissions are granted. They argue AI tools build on their work without remuneration, producing competing creations that undercut their industries.
Kathleen Grace, head of Vermillio, said: “We can all win if we just take a beat and figure out a way to share and track content. This would encourage copyright holders to release more data to AI companies and would give AI companies access to more interesting sets of data. Instead of giving all the money to AI companies, there would be this amazing ecosystem.”
8.What issue is presented at the beginning of the passage
A.Generative AI reinvents film production.
B.The capabilities of generative AI are expanding.
C.Generative AI is becoming increasingly widespread.
D.Copyrighted materials are used in AI-generated content.
9.What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A.Who uses TraceID. B.How TraceID works.
C.Why Trace ID is developed. D.Where TraceID is used.
10.What does the underline word “remuneration” in paragraph 5 mean
A.Delay. B.Pay. C.Effort. D.Warning.
11.What message does Kathleen Grace want to convey
A.Limiting data hurts scientific progress.
B.Copyright holders should release more data.
C.A fair data-sharing ecosystem benefits all.
D.AI firms must disclose copyrighted content use.
Keeping food cold often comes with a hidden problem: Traditional ice melts (融化), leaving pools of water that can make drinks watery, damage products, or even spread dangerous bacteria. Now, researchers at the University of California, Davis, have created jelly ice, a reusable and biodegradable (可生物降解的) alternative that cools like ice but never melts into liquid.
The new material is made of 90% water and can be shaped into various forms. It stays solid below freezing, softens at room temperature, and can be reused by simply washing and refreezing. “Compared to regular ice of the same shape and size, jelly ice has up to 80% of the cooling efficiency,” said Jiahan Zou, a study researcher, “We can reuse the material and maintain the heat absorbance across multiple cooling and warning cycles, an advantage that regular ice cannot offer.”
The project began when UC Davis food scientists noticed how much ice was used in fish-processing plants and how meltwater could spread bacteria. Seeking a safer option for grocery seafood displays, the team turned to gelatin a food-safe material whose protein structure can trap water even as it freezes and thaws (解冻).
After years of testing, the researchers perfected a simple, one-step process for making jelly ice. The material is made from natural components and can be biodegraded after use. It doesn’t contribute to microplastic pollution, even offering a side benefit of improving tomato plant growth when added to soil.
Beyond grocery stores, jelly ice could have wide applications. It could help preserve medical supplies during shipping, reduce waste in biotechnology, and provide reliable cooling options. It promises fresher food shipments without the mess of melting ice packs while also offering a sustainable alternative that reduces pollution risks and supports agriculture
Although licenses for the technology have already been secured, jelly ice is not yet available for public purchase. It still requires market analysis, product design, and large-scale production testing. Inspired by its success, the team is now studying other natural polymers, such as plant-based proteins, to see if similar innovations can be developed.
12.What is one advantage of jelly ice over traditional ice
A.Fixed shape. B.Saving water.
C.Repeated use. D.Cooling efficiency.
13.What does the author imply about jelly ice in paragraphs 3 and 4
A.It stretches tomato growing cycles B.It adopts a bacteria-free material.
C.It shortens the freezing time. D.It lowers environmental impacts.
14.What can we learn from the last paragraph
A.The official approval is underway. B.Jelly ice needs further development.
C.Traditional ice will soon disappear. D.Other natural polymers will be available.
15.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.A Game-changer That Controls Bacteria. B.A Cooling Alternative That We Can Order.
C.A Cooling Material That Doesn’t Melt. D.A Quick Fix That Cuts Biological Pollution.
Finding motivation to exercise can be the greatest challenge in working out. 16 One way of achieving this could be opting for types of exercise that fit our personality.
We found that our personality can influence how we engage with exercise. 17 . When we design and recommend physical activity programs, understanding personality factors is very important. This is because it helps determine how successful the program will be, and whether people will stick with it and become fitter.
18 . This shapes our behaviors and how we interact with the world around us. Therefore, it makes sense that personality would affect how we react to different levels of exercise intensity. For example, people scoring high on extraversion (外向) enjoyed high intensity sessions with others around, including team sports. On the contrary, people scoring high on neuroticism (神经质) preferred private workouts.
The most important part about exercising is finding something we enjoy and not being discouraged if we don’t immediately find it. It’s OK if we don’t enjoy a particular session. 19 .
We hope that if people can find physical activities that they enjoy, they will more readily choose to do them. After all, we don’t have to force dogs to go for a walk: Being so physically inactive that we start to feel miserable might be a peculiarly human thing to do. 20 . But for some reason, many of us humans seem poor at picking up on these messages it is sending to our brain.
A.We can try something else.
B.Our brains work differently.
C.Doing exercise is essential for our health.
D.But why not try other different workouts instead
E.But what if working out could be more enjoyable
F.In effect, our body punishes us by making us miserable.
G.And it also affects which forms of exercise we enjoy the most.

Lily and Mia had been closest friends since their first day of high school. They shared a deep love for English and made a solemn promise: to compete together in the school English Speech Contest, the only path to the school’s top English club. Every afternoon after class, they would stay in the quiet corner of the classroom, practicing lines side by side. They corrected each other’s pronunciation patiently, circled awkward sentences together, and even practiced eye contact and hand gestures in front of the window. When one felt tired or nervous, the other would pat her shoulder and repeat,“We can do this together.” Their notebooks were filled with shared notes and tiny encouraging words. Full of hope for their shared dream, they had never doubted that they would step onto the stage as a team.
Soon Lily was trapped in a fierce inner struggle. Her teacher told her solo contestants had a much higher chance of winning, and her parents kept encouraging her to seize this rare chance for her future. Day and night, she was torn between her long-held dream and her promise to Mia.She felt guilty for even doubting their agreement, yet the desire to stand out and prove herself burned strongly. She feared letting her parents down, and also worried that teaming up might ruin both their chances. Caught in this dilemma, she finally made a selfish and regretful choice——she signed up alone without telling Mia.
When Mia saw only Lily’s name on the list, she was heartbroken and angry. Lily stood there, filled with shame but unable to find any excuses. Their once warm friendship turned icy in an instant.
That night, Lily tossed and turned in bed, unable to forget Mia’s sad eyes.

47.That night, Lily tossed and turned in bed, unable to forget Mia’s sad eyes. All the sweet moments they had spent preparing for the contest crowded into her mind. She realized how foolish and selfish she had been to break their precious promise just for a better chance of winning. Great regret washed over her. She came to understand that true friendship should never be sacrificed for personal gain. Determined to fix her mistake, she wrote a sincere apology letter, explaining her inner struggle and begging for Mia’s forgiveness.
The next day, Mia found a folded note quietly placed on her desk. Slowly opening it, she read Lily’s heartfelt words and saw genuine regret between the lines. The anger in her heart gradually faded away. She knew how much pressure Lily had been under from her parents and teacher. After a long moment of hesitation, Mia walked to Lily and gave her a gentle smile. She chose to forgive her friend. Eventually, Lily canceled her solo entry, and the two girls reunited to prepare for the contest together, holding fast to their original promise.
