In the Chinese zodiac (生肖), the snake holds a special position. It is the sixth animal in the cycle. 2025 is the Year of the Snake. You might think snakes often make people afraid. But in some areas, during the Year of the Snake, people draw snake pictures and post them at home to drive evil spirits away and invite good luck. In other places, temple fair activities related to snakes are held, with people performing snake dances. These customs and traditions show the unique position of snakes in Chinese culture. Also, those born in the Year of the Snake are believed to be wise and quick-thinking.
Starting from the Shang Dynasty (16th century BC-11th century BC), people believed the universe had three parts, with gods in heaven, humans on Earth, and the underworld being the place of the dead. When people saw snakes digging into the underground, they believed that these animals could connect humans, the dead and the gods. Images (形象) of humans with snake bodies were then created, showing the ability to cross between life and death.
Because of their ability to shed skin (蜕皮), snakes were also connected with a special meaning. “In ancient people’s eyes, the snakes seemed to have died, but then they shed their skin and came back to life. This showed the idea of revival after death,” said Han Ding, an associate professor at Henan University.
Living on Earth for more than 100 million years, the snake has never been away from Chinese people’s culture and life. “They are served as connection between humans and gods, and finally became a zodiac symbol for the common folk,” said Wang Fang from the Jinsha Site Museum in Chengdu.

Passage 1
(24-25八年级下·江苏无锡市锡东片区·期中)
When everyone in China is getting ready for the traditional Chinese New Year, a Chinese AI app is shining around the world. The Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) app DeepSeek became the most downloaded free app on the Apple App Store worldwide, followed by ChatGPT from Open AI.
With this success, stocks (股票) related to DeepSeek rose quickly on Monday, with many starting the day more than 10 percent higher. It is believed to bring a big red envelope to shareholders. In January 2025, the Chinese AI company DeepSeek introduced its new open source model, DeepSeekR1. It is reported that this model made an important breakthrough by using deep learning techniques (技术) that let the AI develop reasoning skills on its own. As a result, in tasks such as math, coding, and language reasoning, the model works as well as the top models from big companies like Open AI, and in some fields, it even does better than the world’s best apps.
What impresses the world most is that the developers used less powerful chips than those used by other leading companies. Moreover, both the number of chips and the number of developers on the team are smaller than those of industry leaders. This means that the cost for users will be lower than that offered by other companies.
The app quickly attracted global (全球的) attention. People in Silicon Valley (硅谷) started wondering how its developers almost caught up with American rivals (对手). Marc Andersen, a well-known businessman in Silicon Valley, said on X (Twitter), “DeepSeekR1 is one of the most amazing and impressive breakthroughs I’ve ever seen.”
DeepSeek means a lot to China and its AI industry. It marks the rise of Chinese large models on the global stage. However, with this progress come new challenges. The fast development of such powerful technology has also attracted criticism (批判) from abroad, including online attacks and other forms of unfriendly actions.
1.What does the underlined word “breakthrough” mean
A.突破 B.破坏 C.收获 D.协议
2.Why does the writer mention Marc Andersen
A.To introduce the famous Silicon Valley businessman to readers.
B.To suggest (暗示) that American businessmen are worried about Chinese AI technology.
C.To prove (证明) that DeepSeek is the most downloaded app on the Apple App Store worldwide.
D.To show how amazing and impressive American AI technology used to be.
3.What can we learn from the passage
A.DeepSeek became the most downloaded paid app.
B.DeepSeekR1 didn’t make any breakthrough.
C.The developers of DeepSeek used less powerful chips.
D.Stocks related to DeepSeek fell quickly on Monday.
Passage 2
(24-25八年级下·江苏徐州市邳州市·期中)
Recently, the world has been very excited about a new AI model called DeepSeek-R1. The company behind it, also called DeepSeek, is a business based in Hangzhou, Zhejiang.
The new AI first appeared on Jan 20. In just one week, it beat Open AI’s Chat GPT and became number one free application in the App Store. What is so special about it
According to DeepSeek, the new AI model is as good at difficult activities like math as other big-time models. But it needs much less computing power to do that. It is also the cheapest of its kind and took only about 5.57 million US dollars (40.58 million yuan) to make. That is way less than the hundreds of millions or even billions that US businesses have to spend on making similar AI models, said Marc Andreessen, a technology expert in the US.
The achievement (成就) was largely due to an idea the scientist had while they trained it. Instead of using the traditional ways, DeepSeek mainly uses RL (强化学习). It helps AI learn by working out the right way to do things on its own to get points. This makes RL better at reasoning and solving hard problems.
What’s more, Deepseek-R1 is open-source. Everyone is free to get a copy of its code (代码). They can also change the code to meet their own needs. Being open-source is very important for sharing knowledge and making technology better for everyone, said Liang Wenfeng, who set up DeepSeek.
1.Which city is the company DeepSeek based in
A.Shanghai. B.Zhejiang. C.Hangzhou. D.Beijing.
2.How long did it take DeepSeek-RI to become the top free app in the App Store
A.For seven days. B.For one day. C.For days. D.For 30 days.
3.What does the underlined world big-time probably mean in paragraph3
A.expensive B.cheap C.well-known D.unknown
4.Which technology did DeepSeek mainly use to train its AI model
A.Traditional algorithms. B.Reinforcement Learning (RL).
C.Supervised learning. D.Neural networks.
5.Why is being open-source important, according to Liang Wenfeng
A.It makes AI models cheaper to develop.
B.It attracts more users to download the app.
C.It allows companies to earn more money.
D.It helps share knowledge and improve technology.
Passage 3
(24-25八年级下·江苏淮安市清江浦区开明集团·期中)
Recently, the world has been excited about a new AI model, DeepSeek-R1. It was developed (开发) by DeepSeek, a Chinese business in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.
The new AI came out on Jan 20. In just one week, it beat Open AI’s ChatGPT and became the top free app in Apple’s App Store.
Its developers said that DeepSeek-R1 is as good at difficult tasks as other big models but needs less computing power (算力). It is also the cheapest of its kind and took only about 5.57 million US dollars (40.58 million yuan) to develop, while US businesses have had to spend much more money building similar AI models.
DeepSeek-R1’s success largely came from its special training method. Traditionally, AI is trained in two ways. One is Chain-of-Thought (CoT). In this way, AI learns to break problems into smaller and simpler steps. The other is Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT). It works by showing AI lots of problems together with the right answers for it to find a pattern (模式).
DeepSeek-R1, however, used Reinforcement Learning (RL) as the key method. In RL, AI learns by trying different things. It gets rewards (奖励) for correct actions and gets punished (惩罚) for mistakes. For example, in a game, it gets points for picking up rubbish and loses points for breaking a glass. Over time, it works out the best solution (解决方法) all by itself.
This is how DeepSeek-R1 has grown to be a reasoning model. It is a new type of AI. Regular AI models, like GPT-4o, usually just give direct answers. But reasoning models are trained to both think and show the process (步骤).
1.Why is DeepSeek-R1 better than other AI models
A.It can finish difficult tasks. B.It has higher development costs.
C.It needs more computing power. D.It has a special training method.
2.How does DeepSeek-R1 learn
A.By following all kinds of orders from its developers.
B.By finding a pattern from problems and their answers.
C.By trying different things to find out the best solution.
D.By breaking problems into smaller and simpler steps.
3.What is the passage mainly about
A.The history of DeepSeek-R1. B.The developers of DeepSeek-R1.
C.The work of DeepSeek-R1. D.The introduction to DeepSeek-R1.

Passage 1
(24-25八年级下·江苏仪征市·期中)
Imagine you are collecting some information about winter traditions in northern China. You click on a link for a video that you think could be useful to you. The video, however, takes time to load (下载). After ten seconds, it hasn’t even started playing yet. Will you continue to wait patiently
Ramesh Sitaraman is an American computer scientist. He placed 6.7 million people in a situation like the one above. According to his study, people would begin giving up on a video after only two seconds if it still hadn’t started loading yet. And with every additional (额外的) second that would pass without the video starting to play, another 5.8 percent of them would click on the “Close” icon.
Sitaraman’s study, along with several other studies, shows people are becoming less and less patient. Because of the faster and faster Internet speeds, we are used to receiving “instant gratification”(及时满足). We expect to get what we want without having to wait. When we don’t get what we want at once, we become worried or even angry. This happens not only in front of our screens.
Take one of my friends for example. One day last summer, he was cycling home after work. At one crossing, he had to stop because of a red traffic light. After waiting for 30 seconds, he felt impatient and made a crazy decision: Go in whichever direction he saw there was a green light. The decision didn’t really save him time. In fact, he took a detour and needed 20 minutes more than usual to get back home.
My friend is not alone. Whenever there are traffic jams, many drivers try to quickly change lanes (变道)—a main reason for accidents. Being patient doesn’t just save you trouble. It is also key to your success in life.
The next time you want to get instant gratification, ask yourself: Why are you in such a hurry Are you worried that you might miss out on something important Keep in mind that good things do take time.
1.x: the time people have to wait before the video begins
y: the number of the people who choose to wait for the video to start playing
According to para. 2, which of the charts below shows the relationship (关系) between “x” and “y”
A. B.
C. D.
2.What does “took a detour” mean in Chinese in paragraph 4
A.抄近道走 B.长久等待 C.原地转圈 D.绕远路走
3.What is the correct structure (结构) of the passage
A.①/②③/④⑤/⑥ B.①②/③④⑤/⑥
C.①②/③④/⑤⑥ D.①/②③④/⑤⑥
4.How does the writer feel about “instant gratification”
A.The writer strongly supports it. B.The writer doesn’t agree about it.
C.The writer can’t decide if it is right. D.The writer shows great interest in it.
Passage 2
(24-25八年级下·江苏泰州市姜堰区·期中)
①In spring, some people wear T-shirts while others are in down coats. It seems that people feel different temperatures on the same day. Why does this happen
②In fact, people don’t feel air temperature directly. There are sensors (传感器) on our skin that can feel cold, cool, warm, and hot temperatures. These sensors are also in our noses and bodies.
③When bodies are the same size, how much body fat we have can be different and influence (影响) how we feel temperatures. The more body fat one has, the warmer he or she feels. This is because the fat under the skin helps keep heat, according to the website The Swaddle. For example, old people often feel colder than young people as the fat under the skin gets thinner with age.
④Surprisingly, another reason is height. We need blood to move around our bodies to keep us warm. Since most people’s hearts are about the same size, it takes more effort (力气) and time for the blood to move around in taller people. So taller people might feel colder, said the newsletter Mic.
⑤__________. It shows how fast our bodies use energy. People with a higher metabolism (新陈代谢) always feel hotter than others. This is because they produce more heat and may take more time to cool down. For example, people with more muscles (肌肉) often feel warmer , according to Medicover Genetics.
1.How do people feel air temperature
A.With their nose. B.With sensors on their skin.
C.With their body fat. D.With their energy.
2.Why do old people feel cold more easily
A.Because their bodies get smaller. B.Because they have thinner skin.
C.Because they have less fat under their skin. D.Because they can’t keep heat easily.
3.According to the passage, who is most likely to feel cold
A.A tall, thin person. B.A strong, muscular (肌肉发达的) person.
C.A short, thin person. D.A tall, fat person.
4.What is the structure of the passage
A. B. C. D.
5.Which sentence can be put on the blank _________ in the last paragraph
A.Metabolism also influences the weather.
B.Metabolism also influences the temperature.
C.Metabolism also influences our health.
D.Metabolism also influences how we feel temperatures.
Passage 3
(24-25八年级下·江苏南通市海门区·期中)
Forest bathing began in Japan in the 1980s. It is a practice called shinrin-yoku, which can be translated as “taking in the medicine or air of the forest”. It has recently grown more popular worldwide. When people take time in the natural green world to “be” in a fully present way, studies show it does good to health.
One of the good things of taking a walk in nature is getting away from screens. When we enjoy nature, we keep ourselves away from computers or mobile phones. We take a break and allow ourselves to get strength and energy back. During forest bathing, we are slowing down, stopping making quick decisions, experiencing the pleasure of nature through all of our senses, enjoying being alive and enjoying just the present moment.
In fact, forest bathing is also becoming a more and more popular way of treating stress (压力). Forest bathing is believed to help those experiencing stressful situations. In one recent study, people who formed the habits of walking through forests had lowered blood pressure (血压) and got out of worries.
At the same time bathing in forest air produces more natural killer (NK) cells (细胞) in our blood. Our body uses these NK cells to fight illness. One Japanese study showed a rise in the number and activity of these NK cells among people who forest bathe. Plants and trees in forests can also send out something called phytoncides. This tree oil can not only protect plants and trees themselves, but also help people sleep well; bring joy and boost health.
Forest bathing needs repeated practice. It’s not a one-and-done quick fix. Studies in England on green spaces showed spending at least 120 minutes a week in nature helps with good health. It doesn’t matter whether you break up the two hours into shorter walks in a local park filled with lots of trees or spend an afternoon in a forest.
Taking a quick walk through nature and rushing through the activity to get back to work, let’s say, may not be as helpful. Nor is it advised to play loud music as you walk. Forest bathing shows a different way of life. You’re walking through nature in a forest and taking your time. You’re noticing feelings and staring more of a relaxing and meaningful life.
1.According to the passage, during forest bathing people may ________.
A.think only of the past moment B.make decisions more quickly
C.spend less energy to take exercise D.keep themselves away from worries
2.What does the underlined word “boost” in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A.risk B.improve C.harm D.avoid
3.About forest bathing, the writer might agree that ________.
A.people should form a habit of walking in nature
B.playing light music while walking can be helpful
C.walking for at least 2 hours every time is necessary
D.NK cells and phytoncides are both produced in plants
4.What’s the main idea of the passage
A.How can we enjoy forest baths in nature B.Is it helpful or unhelpful to forest bathe
C.Forest bathing is a great help from nature. D.Forest bathing is a way to change nature.

Passage 1
(24-25八年级下·江苏盐城市盐都区·期中)
In December 2024, the Spring Festival was added to the list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, making the 2025 Spring Festival even more meaningful and drawing more people’s attention to traditional Chinese culture. In Chinese celebrations, whether it is an important birthday or a traditional festival, one of the most typical elements (元素) is the lucky symbols.
To most Chinese, when it comes to lucky symbols, the top three are surely fu, lu and shou, which are sometimes called the three gods.
During Chinese New Year, we would put up red squares with the character fu on them. Some people would put their fu character upside down. In Chinese when we say the fu character is upside down, it sounds like good luck has arrived.
Lu often has to do with one’s job and richness. Lu refers to well pay and ranks (等级) in ancient China. Hulu, gourds (葫芦), sounds like hulu(护禄) which means protecting lu. So traditionally, people use gourds to scare away bad spirits and illnesses and keep rich and successful.
Shou means long-lived life. Even nowadays when someone is having their holiday celebration, we would call this person shouxing, a god. At birthday parties for elder people, we often see peaches. That’s because according to the legend (传说), the Queen Mother of the West grows peaches in her own garden, and whoever gets to eat these peaches will live forever.
Besides the three, lucky symbols can be easily found in the food we eat. For the Chinese New Year dinner, most families would have fish because the character fish sounds like surplus (有余). In southern China, niangao, a kind of rice cake is a lucky food because niangao sounds like getting higher every year. And for Lantern Festival, we have tangyuan, a kind of sticky rice dumplings. They are round shapes and the pronunciation of the food symbolizes being together.
1.The writer mainly tells us about _______.
A.typical Chinese traditional festivals B.Chinese lucky symbols
C.the secrets of richness and success D.traditional Chinese eating culture
2.Which of the following symbols means good luck has arrived
A. B.
C. D.
3.When a Chinese person wants to get a better job, he or she may ______.
A.wear a gourd with him or her B.grow peaches in his or her garden

Wuyi Mountain is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As well as its tea, Wuyi Mountain is also known for its bamboo weaving (编织) tradition. With a history of over 2,000 years, bamboo weaving art was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2008.
In the hands of poets, calligraphers (书法家) and painters, bamboo can also be made into beautiful works of art and daily objects, including baskets, umbrellas and bathtubs.
Xie Hongxing, 42, was born and grew up around Wuyi Mountain. He began to learn bamboo weaving when he was a teenager. “Bamboo weaving covers all kinds of of possible creations, meaning that __①__,” said he.
As an inheritor (传承人) of the bamboo weaving art, he has been working on it for more than 20 years. On Douyin, a popular short-video platform, Xie greatly surprises many people by using a knife to quickly cut bamboo into pieces of the same width.
In 2022, Xie became popular online by building a life-like miniature (缩微模型) of the Tiangong space station out of bamboo. He said it took him 46 days to finish it. He used more than 1 dozen kinds of local bamboo to show the beauty of the space station. “Like knitting a sweater, I used very thin bamboo pieces, wove them tightly together with a tool to make different patterns,” said Xie.
Like other inheritors of intangible cultural heritage, Xie finds that it’s not easy to pass on the craft, but he’s trying his best. He set up a bamboo weaving museum in which visitors can watch and take photos of his works. At his workroom in the Wuyi Mountain scenic area, people can learn how to make earrings and bracelets (手镯), as well as buy some new handmade goods.

(24-25八年级下·江苏省州市邗江区梅苑双语学校·期中)
On January 28, 2025, a special performance called YangBOT amazed audiences at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala China’s most watched TV show. Directed by famous filmmaker Zhang Yimou, the show mixed traditional Chinese Yangko dance with modern robot technology.
In the performance, humanoid robots (robots shaped like humans) dressed in colorful costumes danced Yangko, a joyful folk dance from northern China often seen during festival. They spun handkerchiefs instantly and formed a creative group pattern. These robots were developed by Unitree (宇树科技), a Chinese robotics company.

B.It ha
