Zhang Junli, now in her 40s, comes from a village in Taiyuan. When she was a child, Zhang Junli got a serious
illness which caused her to be paralyzed (瘫痪的). “I could not move my body, and I had to stay in bed. The illness
brought me pain and staying in bed made me feel lonely,” Zhang said. To help and encourage her, Zhang’s parents
gave her some books and often told her inspirational (鼓舞人心的) stories.
Gradually, she found her way in life, and it all started with an idea she had when she was 12. When she first
said that she wanted to learn painting, her mother was surprised but got her daughter all the things she needed at
once. Zhang’s deformed (变形的) fingers made it difficult for her to draw. She failed many times, but finally she
succeeded in finishing her first drawing.
In 2015, one of her pen friends advised her to take up oil painting. By watching online videos, reading books,
and copying works of great artists, Zhang was able to teach herself how to paint with oils.
In 2017, she opened an online shop to sell her paintings following a suggestion from her younger brother. “I
thought it was a good idea, as there was no place to store them at home,” she said. “More importantly, I thought I
could make money and help my parents who still had to work to support me.”
Besides drawing, Zhang also learned to type and she spent seven years writing a 260,000-word novel called
The Blazing Girl. She also wrote an autobiography (自传) called My Existence between 2012 and 2014.
5. Who advised Zhang Junli to learn oil painting
A. Her mother. B. Her pen friend.
C. Her younger brother. D. Herself.
6. What can we learn about Zhang Junli’s parents from the passage

Have you noticed how things in nature slow down in winter Animals hibernate (冬眠), insects stop buzzing
(嗡嗡) so much and leaves have dropped from the trees. There’s a lot we can learn from the natural world by
learning to take it easy.
One of the reasons that animals and plants slow down is to save energy. As humans are part of the natural
world, it is good for people, too. “We need to rest so we can be full of energy when it’s time to be active again,”
explains Rakhee Jasani. “Taking it easy helps us to notice more of what’s happening around us, like how a plant
grows or how the clouds move in the sky,” she says. “When we do things slowly, we pay attention to details (细节)
we might miss if we rush.”
Slowing down gives you a chance to rest in between all the activities that fill your days. When you relax, your
blood flows (流动) more smoothly and your body digests (消化) food more easily. Resting also calms the mind,
which improves concentration, memory and emotional health. A study found that school pupils who were given 15
minutes of quiet time to read or meditate (冥想) at the start and the end of the day were happier than at the start of
the study. The pupils also worked harder, paid more attention in class and got better grades.
It is a great way to get more from every moment when slowing down. Next time you go for a walk, instead of
rushing, try paying attention to your surroundings — listen out for birds or the sound of the wind, notice scenery
and any smell in the air. Notice what difference it makes to how you think and feel.
9. How does the writer start the text
A. By asking a question. B. By telling a story.
C. By using a saying. D. By explaining a fact.
10. What does slowing down help us do according to Rakhee Jasani
A. Reduce energy levels. B. Notice more details.
C. Miss important things. D. Rush through tasks.
11. What is the main idea of Paragraph 3
A. The benefits of slowing down. B. The ways of slowing down.
C. The study on resting the mind. D. The activities for resting the mind.
12. What does the writer suggest we do in the last paragraph
A. Focus on getting to our goal quickly. B. Think about our daily tasks.
C. Pay attention to the things around us. D. Avoid looking at the scenery.
D
In recent years, plank exercise (平板支撑) has become more and more popular. It’s easy to find a proper place
to do plank exercise. You can even do it with a chair! But you should use a strong chair to ensure your safety. It is
dangerous if the chair moves during exercise. Moreover, doing plank exercise regularly may bring you lots of
benefits.
Performing plank exercise as a daily home exercise before or after school will not only speed up your
metabolism (新陈代谢), but also keep your metabolic rate (速率) high all day long. Doing it regularly will make
you burn lots of calories (卡路里). This is especially useful if you have to sit in the classroom for hours every day.
A high metabolic rate will help you lose weight and keep in good shape.
Have you ever tried standing on one leg You couldn’t stand straight for more than ten seconds, right It’s
because your muscles (肌肉) aren’t strong enough to give you the balance you need. Doing plank exercise
regularly will improve your balance. Stronger muscles will also help you stand with straight posture (姿势) longer.
You will also get some mental benefits. Just think about it: You are sitting all day long. Your muscles get tired,
and your legs get heavy. Plank exercise will relax the muscle groups that may cause stress in the body. As a result,
it can have a powerful and positive effect on our mood.
Considering all the benefits of plank exercise, will you make it part of your everyday life
13. According to Paragraph 2, which of the following shows the change in your metabolic rate after you complete
plank exercise
A. B. C. D.
14. According to the writer, why can’t some people stand straight on one leg for more than ten seconds
A. Because they are drunk. B. Because their muscles are tired.
C. Because their muscles are weak. D. Because they have fewer muscles.
15. How is the text organized (①=Paragraph 1, ②=Paragraph 2,…)
A. B. C. D.
16. Which is the best title for the passage
A. The Growing Popularity of Plank Exercise
B. Safety Tips for Plank Exercise Beginners
C. The Challenges and Importance of Plank Exercise
D. Benefits and Encouragement of Plank Exercise

In 2025, we mark the 80th anniversary (周年) of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance
Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. To remember this important moment, on May 13,
2024, China published a special logo (标识)—a picture that carries big meanings.
The logo has five meaningful parts: the Great Wall, olive branches (橄榄枝), the bright light, the number “80”,
and the timeline “1945—2025”. The Great Wall stands for the strength and bravery of the Chinese people during
the war. Olive branches around show China’s love for peace. The bright light forms a “Gate of Victory” and means
the hope for a better future. The number “80” highlights the importance of remembering history, while the timeline
“1945—2025” connects the victory in 1945 with China’s path of peaceful development to 2025.
What can this logo do for us When we see it in schools, parks, or on TV, it helps us learn about the past. We
didn’t live through the war, but the logo tells us to love peace, be kind to others, and make sure wars never happen
again.
This logo is more than a picture. It’s a promise—to remember, and to treasure peace. We should always keep
this victory in mind. It makes us proud of what people did in the past. It also tells us to love peace and work
together to make the world better.
