The pros and cons of (正反两面) social media
At Communication Today, we asked people for their opinions about the pros and
cons of social media. Here’s what a few people said:
Maya
If you ask me, I think social media is great! I like posting photos of the places I’
ve been to, the people I’ve met and even the meals I’ve eaten! I generally check my
social media accounts a few times every day. I like to keep in touch with what my
friends are doing. And if something good has happened, I can congratulate them right
away. I’m actually quite shy when I’m with a group of people, but on social media I
feel much more confident about sharing my news and ideas.
Olly
In my opinion, people should be careful about using social media. I don’t like the
idea of strangers reading about me, so I’m very careful about who I connect with. I
think social media can sometimes be used for gossip(八卦 ), with people posting
unkind things about other people. And I’ve heard about bullying(欺凌 ) on social
media, too — that’s just cruel(残酷的).
Eric
For me, social media is a good way to keep up with what’s going on in my town
and around the world. I’m in many groups with people who have interests just like
mine. I like sharing opinions and ideas with them. I’ve met some interesting people
and made some good friends through social media.
7
Rose
In my view, many people waste a lot of time on social media. They don’t go out
or exercise as much as they should-they’d rather spend time on their devices! I think
some people have ‘FOMO’-- a fear of missing out.(错失恐惧症) Usually, the posts
that people put up on social media make their lives seem exciting and fun. When other
people see these posts, it’s easy for them to feel that their lives aren’t as exciting as
others’. They worry that they are missing out on all the fun. I think that’s a bit sad.
71. Why does Maya enjoy posting on social media
72. Olly doesn’t like strangers reading his social media, does he
73. How does Eric like social media
74. In your opinion, how can people overcome ‘FOMO’
