Andy never wanted to go to bed on time. His parents explained to him many times how important it was to get a good night’s rest, but Andy paid no attention. They didn’t know what to do until one weekend when they visited Andy’s grandparents.
Grandpa Pete heard all about it and said, “That’s nothing! Leave it to me,” The next night, they put Tubby in the car and drove back home.
That night, at bedtime, the same problem happened. Andy didn’t want to go to bed. His parents waited to see if Tubby would solve the problem, but nothing happened. “Grandpa really does talk some nonsense,” said Andy’s father.
Hours later, Andy finally decided to go to bed. But what a surprise when he entered his bedroom! Tubby was in his bed, lying stretched out and snoring like an old motorbike. Andy tried to move the cat, but there was no way. Andy even considered sleeping on the floor, but he was too tired. He just climbed over Tubby and lay down on the edge of the bed.
The next day, the same thing happened, even though Andy was much more tired from not having slept.
When the third night arrived, he understood that if he wanted to sleep in his bed comfortably, he would have to get into it first before Tubby did. That night, Andy ran upstairs as fast as a bullet (子弹) and jumped into his bed. His parents could not believe it. They knew nothing about Tubby in the bed. They didn’t understand why Andy went to bed on time without complaint. They were so happy about this, but... can you guess where Tubby slept that night

Technology will surely bring big changes to schools. Let’s look at three exciting predictions (预测) for schools in 2035!
Prediction 1: ______________________________________________
Have you ever felt the sun was too bright in class, making it hard to see the words on the blackboard This is bad for your eyes in the long run. Future schools will solve this problem by using smart glass! The windows themselves will change colour—darker when the sun is strong and lighter on cloudy days. Also, every classroom will have an air conditioner, and it will be different from the ordinary ones! It will have a built-in air purifier (净化器) to clean the air.
Prediction 2: Teachers are still important, but in a new way.
Will teachers disappear Don’t worry! In 2035, robot teachers can help teach basic facts, like explaining maths rules. They will also help check homework and even predict which areas a student needs to improve in. However, they won’t be able to have deeper interactions (互动) with students. Human teachers will pay more attention to important things like encouraging minds and touching hearts. They will be students’ “guides”—helping students find what they love and supporting them when they need help.
Prediction 3: Virtual reality (VR) will be a big part of learning.
VR is already possible in today’s world, but it will become more common in 2035. Imagine putting on VR glasses and suddenly being in a “shared classroom” with students from other countries. You can talk, work on group projects, and even take virtual field trips together. With the development of VR (technology), perhaps in 2050, students will be able to study in a virtual school at their homes.
33.Which of the following sentences can be Prediction 1
A.Students will have better eye-sights in the new classroom.
B.Students will breathe more fresh air in the new environment.
C.Students will have a more comfortable study environment.
D.Students will feel weather changes in the new classroom.
34.What is special about human teachers in the future
A.They will predict the students’ maths problems.
B.They will mainly depend on AI to connect students.
C.They will have fewer interactions with students.
D.They will pay more attention to the students’ feelings.
35.What can students do with VR in 2035
A.Design their own classrooms.
B.Work with students worldwide on projects.
C.Attend classes without any teachers.
D.Have classes in a virtual school at home.
36.What’s the purpose of this passage
A.To predict the development of technology in the future.
B.To describe some possible changes in future schools.
C.To show the advantages of VR technology in education.
D.To compare online education and traditional education.
If you are a biology fan, you might be interested in sawflies.
When a sawfly lays eggs, she must cut into a plant without killing it. Her cuts are careful and exact. She needs to make sure the plant stays alive to feed her larvae (幼虫).
How does she manage to do that Scientists discovered the sawfly uses a special ovipositor (产卵器). It works like a small saw (锯) that seems to “think for itself”, and this saw has two blades like cutting teeth. They move against each other smartly.
They cut the soft part of plants but avoid the stronger tubes (管), as these tubes should carry water and nutrients (营养) for her larvae. Different sawflies even have different tooth shapes that match the plants they usually cut into. “There are no computers, but it has become perfect over millions of years,” said a scientist.
To test if this can help humans, scientists made a model of the sawfly’s cutting tool 400 times bigger and tried it on man-made human tissue (组织). The tool cut soft materials well without hurting stronger tissues. This could be useful for surgeons who do operations in areas where it’s hard to see clearly, and must not hurt important tissues.
Scientists believe this discovery could help make a new kind of medical tool that is simple, safe and exact. And there are more than 8,000 kinds of sawflies, each with its own special design. This may be just a start. Nature may have many surprises waiting for you.
37.A female sawfly cuts a plant carefully to ________.
A.mark the plant for other sawflies
B.keep the plant alive for her larvae
C.get food for herself while laying eggs
D.gather plant parts for building a nest

A.Its cutting teeth move against each other smartly.
B.It cuts soft plant tissue while leaving stronger parts alone.
C.It cuts the plant tissue and carries water and nutrients.
D.Its cutting teeth are shaped to match the plants they cut into.
39.If surgeons use a sawfly-style tool, which part of the body would it avoid cutting
A.Fat. B.Skin. C.Blood vessels. D.Bones.
40.In the last paragraph, why does the author mention that there are over 8,000 kinds of sawflies
A.To show there are too many sawflies to study.
B.To show each kind of sawfly might give us a different idea.
C.To show all sawflies have the same cutting tools.
D.To show the number of sawflies is bigger than that of other insects.
Turn fighter jets into art
The world probably doesn’t need more fighter jets, but an artist named Ralph Ziman from South Africa has created a special one.
For over ten years, Ziman has turned war tools into beautiful art with traditional African skills. 41 Ziman had six artists use traditional African beads (玻璃珠) and wire to make models of guns. They were then used in fashion-style photos.
His latest work in his series is The MiG-21 Project. He covered a MiG-21 fighter jet with tens of millions of colorful glass beads. 42 This idea was also from African art. He wanted to turn the jet from a war symbol into a sign of peace and cultural pride.
These jets are the most-produced supersonic (超音速的) fighter jet in history. 43 And there are still some in service today, including in a number of African countries. 44
45 Then it will tour the US. Later, he will sell it to help support education for the artists’ children and young people.
A.He also made special flight suits to go with it.
B.His series began in 2013, with The AK-47 Project.
C.Now Ziman’s plane is on show at the Museum of Flight in Seattle.

Dear Mom,
I had a wonderful time on the first day of the Chinese New Year in Xuzhou! I wore a beautiful Hanfu and visited Pengcheng.
First, I went to the museum and saw many amazing cultural relics. They told me a lot about Chinese history. Then I learned to make fragrant sachets. It was so interesting to put herbs inside and sew them. In the evening, I watched colorful fish lanterns. They looked lively and beautiful.
I really love Hanfu and traditional culture. I hope you can come and enjoy it with me next year!
Love,
Kate
