and soon he could say his name, “Master”, “Yes” and “No”, and the names for various items. How good it was to
hear a man’s voice again!
It took Friday time to grow used to the idea of hunting with a gun. I had to shoot several animals and birds
before he stopped running away. For the next three years, I taught Friday how to use all my tools. Friday was quick
to help with the farming and feeding. He worked hard and was obedient (服从).
One day, I took Friday to the highest point of the island where all the nearby islands could be seen. Suddenly,

do you want to send me away ”
“But I thought you wanted to go home,” I said.

①Are you troubled by housework, such as cleaning tables or tidying your room It’s said that some new AI
robots could be here to help!
②Recently, the robot Mobile Aloha made by scientists at Stanford University in the US became popular
online. In the videos posted, we can see the robot preparing dishes on its own, from cutting vegetables to cracking
(打破) eggs. It’s also good at watering plants, petting cats, sweeping the floor, folding the clothes and taking care
of children. It even knows how to shake the pillow (枕头) after putting it into a pillowcase (枕套).
③Sounds good Well, ▲ Actually, it isn’t good at doing housework on its own. Instead, it learns from
human actions before doing each kind of housework. When the situation changes, it can’t work well without a
human “teaching” it. So it may break dishes, bump into (撞上) things and even burn a pot.
④Moreover, Mobile Aloha can successfully move chairs 80 percent of the time, said the team after they did
more research on it. For cooking dishes, it’s only 40 percent. For looking after babies, it’s even worse. In short, it’s
far from perfect.
第 8页/共 20页
⑤In fact, AI robots are good at tasks such as math and playing chess, but they face challenges when it comes
to simpler actions like cleaning, washing or cooking. And it’s the same for Mobile Aloha. For example, if its body
doesn’t move correctly-even just with a small deviation (偏差), its arm may move too far to pick up a glass.
⑥“Robots are not ready to take over the world,” the team posted on X.
32. The robot Mobile Aloha is good at ______.
A. sweeping the floor B. folding the clothes C. taking care of children D. A, B and C
33. Which sentence can be put in the ▲
A. Mobile Aloha can be used to do some high-tech work, too.
B. a research shows that humans do these chores better than robots.
C. AI robots will also meet some problems when they help around the house.
D. another video about Mobile Aloha posted by researchers may let some people down.
34. Which of following shows the structure of the passage
A. B. C. D.
35. Which is the best title of the passage
A. Robots May Not Be So Helpful B. Robots May Take Human’s Place
C. Robots—A Good Housework Helper D. Robots Are Ready to Shine

Have you ever heard of balancing an egg during Spring Equinox (春分) Have you ever tried to stand an egg
on its end Well, it’s said that every Spring Equinox you will be able to balance an egg on one end. There is some
truth to this, but there is also a very important piece of information that might surprise you.
The Spring Equinox, or Vernal Equinox, is the first day of spring. It falls on March 20 this year. The angle (角
度) of the Earth facing towards the Sun changes throughout the year, and it also changes the length of our days. On
the first day of spring, the Earth’s axis (轴) is perpendicular(垂直的)to the Sun. This means that the length of day
and night is the exact same.
The saying that an egg can stand on one end might come from a Chinese idea. It’s very difficult to balance an
egg because the yolk (蛋黄) is off-center, and it will usually just fall over. But the idea is that the Earth is more
balanced, so there could be some special gravitational (重力的) forces on this day.
However, this is not true. If you focus long enough, you can actually do this any day of the year! There’s
第 9页/共 20页
nothing special about the Spring Equinox.
Some people think that the imperfections (缺点) of the egg are what help it balance, but this might just make it
a little easier. All you really need is a lot of patience (耐心), and you might be able to successfully balance an egg
on its end.
Even though the old saying is wrong. But balancing eggs is still a fun tradition for people. In some places,
people paint the eggs in many colors and hold egg-balancing competitions. Do you want to give it a try
36. How does writer start the passage
A. By asking questions. B. By telling stories. C. By listing numbers. D. By giving examples.
37. What can we infer from the passage
A. The Spring Equinox falls on March 20th this year.
B. If you are patient, you can balance an egg on its end for sure.
C. It is difficult for people to balance the egg because of egg white.
D. People will keep the tradition of balancing eggs as it can bring much fun.
38. ______ shows The Spring Equinox.
A. B. C.
D.
39. The purpose of the passage is to ______.
A. introduce what Spring Equinox is

It’s not easy to say no bravely. Sometimes, we do things that we don’t want to do. However, holding onto your
mind may not always make people like you, but will surely bring you more respect. Have you ever bravely said no
to someone
Gao Yuxin, 13
When I was in primary school, two of my classmates always asked me to do many things for them, like taking
books, buying breakfast or copying the homework, which put me under great anxiety (焦虑) about being bullied
(霸凌). I was afraid that they would do something worse if I refuse them so I just kept obeying whatever they asked
me to do. After a while, I realized that the anxiety had a bad influence on me, so I decided to refuse all their
unreasonable requests by saying “I’m sorry but I won’t do all these things for you because it’s so tiring and I don’t
think it’s right to let others do everything for you”. Thanks to my determined attitude (坚定的态度) to say no, they
didn’t order me to do anything anymore. From this experience, I learned to say no to unfair things bravely, because
only in this way can I get respect.
Xie Haoze, 13

When I turned fourteen, my dad gave me an old red bike. “Time to learn to ride,” he told me. The bike looked
bad—the metal (金属) was covered in rust (锈) and the wheels shook when they moved. I was scared to try riding
since I fell off a tricycle when I was little.
My first try was terrible. Our street slanted downhill (下坡倾斜) a little. As soon as I started moving, the bike
turned sharply (急剧地) and I fell into some bushes, cutting my knees. “I can’t do this!” I shouted, pushing the bike
away. Dad picked it up quietly. “We’ll fix the brakes (刹车制动器) tomorrow,” he promised.
He kept his promise. All weekend, Dad worked on the bike. He put on a new seat, fixed the chain, and painted
it bright blue. “Now it’s really yours,” he smiled. Even though I didn’t want to, I tried again. Dad held the back of
the seat while running beside me. “Look where you’re going, not at your feet!” he kept saying.
We practiced every afternoon for weeks. Slowly, I stopped falling so much. One evening when the sun was
setting, Dad secretly let go. I kept riding by myself—shaky but staying up. The air blew against my face, and
instead of being scared, I felt excited and free.
On my fifteenth birthday, we rode bikes to the lake near our house. Watching the orange sunset, Dad said,
“See. Things that are broken can be fixed and become strong again if you try hard.” Then I understood he meant
more than just the bike.
Now, when I ride past those bushes where I fell, I always remember. That old blue bike didn’t just teach me to
balance—it taught me that keeping trying is important, and that dads can be really, really patient.
