1. Did you know that a typhoon was coming
你（当时）知道台风要来了吗？
was coming 过去进行时，在这里表示“过去将要发生”。 问过去知不知道某件事要发生，用 “Did you know that... was coming ”。
e.g. Did you know that a rainstorm was coming

almost和nearly都作副词，意为“几乎；差不多”。一般情况下，二者可以互换使用，但almost所表示的接近程度大于nearly。此外，almost后面可以与no, nobody, none, nothing, never等表示否定意义的词连用，而nearly没有这种用法。
