Sample 1
During the hot and dry summer last year, my family experienced the first natural disaster of our lives. We were hiking in the mountains when lightning suddenly flashed across the sky. The sky got darker and darker, and a strong smell of smoke filled the air. And then we realized that we weren’t looking at clouds—it was thick, black smoke! There was a wildfire!
“Look!” my brother shouted in panic, pointing at the flames in the distance. “I can see the fire over there!” I quickly had my phone out, my hands shaking, and was ready to call for help. My dad quickly looked around, his face pale with fear, and said, “Let’s move away from the fire right now.” My sister was holding my hand tightly, her voice trembling, and saying, “It’s okay, just keep going. We’ll be safe soon.”
Just then, we saw a red fire truck rushing up the mountain and heard someone calling loudly, “Over here!” A firefighter was standing on the truck, waving wildly and shouting, “Follow me! You’ll be safe this way!” We followed his direction and ran towards the truck, finally out of danger.
Sample 2
Last winter, my family had a terrifying experience. It started one evening while we were enjoying a quiet night at home. My parents were watching TV while my brother was doing his homework. I, on the other hand, was glued to my bedroom window. Thick snow was falling and the world outside was growing whiter and whiter.
“Look!” I shouted, pointing at the snow outside. “The snow is getting so deep!” My brother looked up from his homework and said, “The wind is blowing so hard. The tree outside our house is bending!” My dad walked to the window, his face serious, and said, “Let’s move away from the window. This is a heavy snowstorm.” My mom brought us hot cocoa and said, “Stay calm, kids. We’ll be safe inside.”
Just then, we heard a loud crash. A big tree fell down in our yard. We held each other’s hands, feeling a little scared, but we knew we were together and safe.
