Dear diary,
I was just reading my diary from four years ago.How time flies! Back then,I was so disappointed at being too short and failing to get on the basketball team. I couldn't help laughing at my heart breaking words then. Basketball was really a big deal for me. But things changed soon after that.
I was so hurt by my failure back then, and my friends were all worried.“Why not try something else, like swimming or skiing " suggested my best friend.At first, I swam just to take my mind off things. But soon, I fell completely in love with the sport. I've won several competitions now and I've made a lot of friends. My life has taken a different turn.

When the people around us feel down, we usually say jiayou. When we watch the dragon boat races, we can also hear jiayou. We usually say 1 (itself) when we encourage someone. It means “add oil” in English. But where is it from And why do we use it
There is a story behind “add oil”. It 2 (take) place during the Qing Dynasty. “Add oil” started 3 an official (官员) named Zhang Ying. He was the zhifu, or mayor (市长), of Xingyi in Guizhou. lamps in someone’s home and heard the sound of reading, they would knock on the door and say, “ The mayor 8 (add) oil for your lamp! ” The officials would then give the person oil so that he could study till the night.
Zhang did this and paid for the oil for 13 years. Many young people in Xingyi later became officials, poets and scholars (学者). “Add oil” is 9 used today. Next time, say jiayou to your 10 (friend) when they need you to cheer them up. It’s very useful.
