If you want a great hotel and a close encounter with the animal kingdom, here are the best hotels with engagement programs and bonus activities with animals.
Best Friends Roadhouse (Kanab, Utah)
It lets you stay on the grounds of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary (庇护所), a massive shelter for a wide range of animals, from goats to dogs to rabbits.
Today, it’s home to over 1,600 rescued animals, ranking first in size of its kind in the US. When you visit, you can spend time in multiple areas, including Dogtown, Cat World, Horse Haven and the recovery center of Wild Friends.
Longneck Manor (Fredericksburg, Texas)
It is a place that covers over 100 acres, home to three rhinos and five giraffes. Unlike other similar hotels, this is almost like a combination between a zoo and a conservation area.
You can get up-close and personal with rhinos and giraffes and even contribute to helping keep wild populations safe and healthy.
Farm Sanctuary (Watkins Glen, New York)
It is a massive animal sanctuary where you can set up shops and get your hands dirty by exploring the farm. It is ideal for anyone who likes pigs, cows, turkeys, and other classic farm animals.
You can take tours of the sanctuary and learn about farm practices, sustainability, and, of course, the animals and how they ended up at the farm.
Atlanta Alpaca Treehouse (Atlanta, Georgia)
In Atlanta, inside a massive bamboo forest, there’s a mixed pack of alpaca (羊驼) and llamas (美洲驼) and a tree house you can rent for the night.
The animals are responsible for eating new growth to prevent the bamboo from overtaking the city of Atlanta. You can do yoga classes with them, go on a weekend-long healing retreat (also guided by llamas and alpacas), and more.

A lively urban forest can plant the seed of wellness in the minds and hearts of people struggling with the thick brush of mental illness.
In 2022, a CNN survey found that 90% of Americans believed the U. S. was experiencing a mental health crisis. Unfortunately, the data backs it up. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, one in five U. S. adults experience mental illness. It’s a troubling trend that affects people of all backgrounds. Therefore, what is important at present is to give voice to the silent struggle so many people face and consider how we might improve people’s mental health.
Experts say one way we can get there is by increasing the investment in planting trees. Research shows that access to trees reduces rates of depression, lowers levels of the brain’s main stress hormone (激素), and improves thinking function. This is especially true in cities and urban areas, where residents are significantly more likely to battle depression and anxiety. By fragmenting concrete jungles with urban forests, we can help make people happier and healthier.
The positive impact of trees is well-documented in a growing body of scientific studies in the U. S. and around the world. For example, a study in Germany concluded that just living within 100 meters of a tree has the ability to reduce the need for antidepressant (抗抑郁的) drugs. In Denmark, researchers found that children living at the lowest levels of green space had a significantly higher risk of developing psychiatric (精神病的) disorders later in life as compared to children living near strong green space. Some doctors are even looking to trees as a form of medicine, specifying struggling patients with a walk in the woods to fully lose themselves in nature (a practice known as forest bathing).
It’s clear that trees are not a “nice-to-have.” Trees are a must-have. Everyone deserves equal access to trees and the positive power they carry. We need to offer people hope.
24.Why does the author mention the CNN survey in paragraph 2
A.To promote the authority of CNN. B.To criticize the government’s inaction.
C.To highlight the mental health crisis. D.To attract investment in green projects.
25.What does the underlined word “fragmenting” in paragraph 3 mean
A.Breaking up. B.Rooting up. C.Powering up. D.Wrapping up.
26.What is a proven effect of living near trees
A.It can heal mental illnesses. B.It improves depression condition.
C.It can change people’s lifestyle. D.It ensures children’s mental health.
27.What is the author’s suggestion about making trees a must-have
A.Settling down in the woods possibly. B.Constructing several other green cities.
C.Greater investment in green facilities. D.More research investment in depression.
C
From misremembering a movie quote to forgetting a vital ingredient from the shops for an evening dinner, the human memory is not always reliable. Now, researchers have discovered that sleep may play a key role in distorting(扭曲) memories, but perhaps in a good way.
As part of this study, researchers from the University of York’s Department of Psychology tested 488 participants on their ability to recall a list of words 12 hours after seeing them, with some of the participants being allowed to sleep in the 12-hour period.
They found that those who had slept remembered more of the words on the list than those who had not, but they were also more likely to give words that weren’t on the list, but were related. The related incorrect words are known as “lure words”. If a list contained words like nurse, hospital and sick, the false memories may include lure words like doctor.
Dr Matthew Mak, first author of the study, said, “Participants may falsely recall the lure words because ‘doctor’ most probably represents the gist(要旨) of the word list, and humans are known to often rely on gist encoding.” Co-author Professor Gareth Gaskell added, “Memories in some ways are more about our future than our past. They exist to provide knowledge about our past that can be applied in a generalised way to help us to deal with future events. So a gist-like representation might actually be more useful than a ‘perfect’ detailed representation. What sleep might be doing is helping us to store memories in a gist-like way that can then be better applied to our future interactions.”
However, the researchers did recognize several limitations of their study, namely that all participants were aged between 18 and 25, and that the tests were performed online, meaning that other distractions(干扰) and environments could not be controlled.
28.What does paragraph 3 mainly tell us about the study
A.Its purpose. B.Its process. C.Its subject. D.Its finding.
29.What is Gaskell’s attitude to a gist-like representation
A.Negative. B.Doubtful. C.Favorable. D.Unclear.
30.What message does the author want to convey in the last paragraph
A.The tests make little sense. B.The study needs improving.
C.The conclusion is satisfying. D.The participants are nervous.
31.Which can be a suitable title for the text
A.Sleep May Bring About False Memories B.Old People Tend to Have Short Memories
C.A Good Night’s Sleep Keeps Us Energetic D.Rising Early Delivers a Promising Start
D
I am a multisport athlete and seasoned coach. When I was growing up, school wasn’t really my thing, but sport very much was. Athletics connected me to my school community by giving me a sense of belonging and success even when I struggled in the classroom. When I entered education, I knew I wanted to be more than a coach on the field and court — I wanted to help students like me make meaningful connections to school through sports.
I designed a program around the concepts of comfort and stretch zones. On day one, I set up a range of equipment for different sports across a field. In groups, students discussed sports that they felt comfortable and safe playing. They then took turns selecting their comfort sport on the field, doing a brief share, and playing with their group. Afterward, we had a class discussion on the importance of doing things that bring joy and passion, and how sharing that passion with others motivates us and the people around us.
On day two, with the same field design and sporting equipment, I introduced the idea of stretch zones. Students formed the same groups as on day one and discussed which sports were out of their comfort zone and more challenging to them. Some of my students were shy and others slightly frustrated (沮丧) as they struggled to perform the skills in sports in which they were not comfortable. Then we discussed, as a class, how even when something is challenging, if we recognize the difficulty and intentionally practice, we give ourselves the opportunity to overcome it over time.
The program required more than just adjusting my curriculum (课程) — it also meant some changes to the way I taught. I found myself opening up to my students and sharing my own hardships and successes with them. As a result, my students felt freer to be their real selves.
32.What did the author think of sport when he was a student
A.It appealed mainly to seniors. B.It led to a decline in his grades.
C.It helped him get attached to school. D.It made him struggle in the classroom.
33.Why did the author design the program
A.To test some sports equipment. B.To prepare students for a meet.
C.To push students to observe rules. D.To bond students and the school.
34.What was a problem facing the author on the second day of the program
A.Some students feared challenges. B.It was difficult to group students.
C.Students wanted material rewards. D.The sports field became crowded.
35.What can we infer about the author
A.He loves telling jokes. B.He is a creative teacher.
C.He used to be very shy. D.He is fond of safe sports.

School is a place where you usually feel safe. 37 It pushes you out of your comfort zone. And it is a good thing, because it will help you grow as a person.

Travel teaches you that the unexpected is rarely as bad as you think. Learning to go with the flow and be flexible in life is probably one of the best lessons you can learn because life doesn't go as planned. 40

Andrew lived alone with his five children. To make a living, he worked as a pizza delivery man at BBQC Pizza. Thankfully, his elderly neighbor was kind enough to watch the kids while he was away, so he didn’t have to pay for a nanny. Still, the bills were piling up most months.
One day, on his way to deliver pizzas, he spotted smoke rising from a house. The house was on a completely different route from his delivery location, but he couldn’t just turn a blind eye to it. So he turned his motorcycle around and stopped right in front of the home.
Andrew quickly took out his phone and dialed 911 to report the incident. A few people had come out of their houses by then, but no one dared to approach the house because the fire had already reached the front porch.
When Andrew was waiting for the firefighters, he saw a woman in a wheelchair trapped inside the burning house. Andrew knew he was late for his deliveries and would probably be fired, but he had no time to lose. Because he had been trained for the situation before, he went into the burning house, using his jacket to cover himself. “Are you crazy You’ll die!” someone yelled at him, but he didn’t listen. He burst into the house through the front door and a few moments later, he came out with the older woman.
Thankfully, the firefighters arrived by then and put out the fire. Andrew’s right hand was burned while saving the woman. The doctors treated Andrew’s wound, and while sitting in the ambulance, he checked his phone. He saw dozen of calls from his boss Mr. Morse and several messages lashing (怒斥) out at him for his failed deliveries.
Andrew sighed and he knew there was nothing he could do to save his job at this point. He sent messages to Mr. Morse and his customers, apologizing for the failed deliveries. After that, he turned off his phone and went home.

Text 10
W: The world is getting warmer. According to an analysis by NASA scientists, the average global temperature increases roughly at a rate of 0. 15 to 0.2°C every ten years.
What is going to happen if our planet continues to heat up Well, normally, the average global temperature should be around 35°C during summer time. When it gets 2°C higher, the crop output will start to decrease, people will become easy to feel sick, and mass deaths of coral reefs will begin to occur in oceans. When it comes to 39°C to 41°C, sea water will drown most of the island countries, people will have to choose to grow sunflowers which can survive in salty soil, and oceans will be crowded with dead bodies of sea creatures. At the average global temperature of 42°C, people will get almost nothing from land anymore, and therefore the remaining orders of the modern society will break down eventually.
So is it still possible to save us human species from dying out Well, I don’t know, but if we could begin to do things like using less private cars, protecting the forests, etc. from now on, maybe we still have a chance. Let’s take action!

Instead, he looked at Andrew with admiration and said they had known what he had done from the news. His five kids, hearing the commotion, gathered around and looked at the visitors curiously.
Mr. Morse stepped inside with a warm smile, carrying a box of pizzas. He handed the pizzas to Andrew and praised his bravery for saving the elderly woman in the fire, saying such a kind and responsible person was exactly what the company needed. Not only would Andrew not be fired, but he would also get a raise and a bonus. The neighbors also came to express their respect. Andrew felt relieved and grateful, realizing that kindness would always be rewarded and that his life was finally taking a better turn.
