According to scientists, a lake with a round shape is very common. However, the
lake named Kingsley in Florida, the US, makes them very surprised.
Kingsley Lake is one of the best fishing spots in Florida, but few people know
what really makes this place special is its unusually round shape. The lake is called
the roundest lake in the world. In fact, we can only see how round the lake is from the
air.
What caused Kingsley Lake to have this special shape Some people think
human beings have changed the structure of Kingsley Lake so that it is unusually
round. However, in fact, this lake is completely free from human activities. It is
believed to have formed as a sinkhole. It also appears that the lake is the result of the
movement of rocks, which gave the present shape of Kingsley Lake.
Kingsley Lake has a diameter(直径) of about 3.2 kilometres. It is 53.7 metres
above sea level, which makes Kingsley Lake one of the highest lakes in Florida.
Kingsley Lake is about 27.4metres deep and it is also considered one of Florida's
deepest lakes.
According to the survey, Kingsley Lake has an unchanging water level because
of its surface drainage(排水)system. This system helps the floodwater easily run
from the lake to the areas around. In addition, the lake has many shallow(浅的)
water areas, so it can be filled with water again in no time, creating the balance of the

Antarctica(南极洲), the southernmost continent(大陆)on our planet, has
become a more and more popular place for tourists to visit in recent years. Many
travel companies now have special Antarctic tour plans. These tours usually begin
from ports in South America, like Ushuaia in Argentina(阿根廷)。
On an Antarctic tour, tourists can see the really amazing beauty of huge icebergs.
These icebergs have all kinds of shapes and sizes. The icy places go on and on,

different kinds of penguins in Antarctica, such as the Emperor Penguin and the Adélie
Penguin. Watching them walk in a funny way on the ice or swim nicely in the very
cold water is something you'll never forget.
But Antarctic tourism also has some problems. The environment in Antarctica is
very fragile and can be easily hurt by a lot of tourists coming. For example, if too
many people walk around, it might bother the home of local animals and plants. Also,
the ships that take people there might accidentally leak(泄露)oil or other dirty
things, and this could damage the sea life.
So, while Antarctic tourism gives us a special chance to visit this faraway and
wonderful place, it's very important that tourists and the travel companies do
something to protect the environment. People should know how important it is to

Do you know what music people like listening to If you ask them, you may get
many different answers. Why do different people have different musical preferences
What do these differences say about us
Researchers from Cambridge University tried to answer these questions. They
asked 350,000 people from 50 different countries. Then, they found that musical
preferences depend on personalities. Outgoing people prefer danceable music with
strong beats such as rap. Country music fans are shown to be more serious in their
jobs. One of the findings is quite interesting. The researchers thought that people with
much stress should like sad music or rhythmic(有节奏的 ) music. But it turned out
that these people dislike these two kinds. Instead, they like loud music better. Maybe
they like to listen to this kind of music to lower their stress.
The researchers also found that climates may affect people's musical preferences
and personalities too. People in hot weather prefer danceable music. They are more
outgoing. This may be a result of longer daylight hours. They advised people to go
outdoors to dance.
Of course, nothing is clear-cut. We may not group people simply by their
musical tastes. The study just showed us that people of different cultures are more
similar than we think.“People are grouped by language and culture,” said Dr David
Greenberg.“But if an outgoing person in one place likes the same music as outgoing
people in other places, then we can say that music is really like a bridge.”
( )26. How does the writer begin this topic
A. By asking questions. B. By telling stories.
6
C. By giving examples. D. By listing numbers.
( )27. People who are more serious in their jobs like _ better.
A. sad music B. loud music
C. country music D. danceable music
( )28. In which season do people most probably like danceable music
( )29. What does the writer want to tell us in the last paragraph
A. People of different cultures are quite different.
B. People can be grouped only by language and culture.
C. Listening to loud music helps to deal with people's stress.
D. Music helps people all over the world to communicate.
