The online world is like a jungle — full of interesting things to discover, people to meet, and places to explore. However, it’s important to remember that there are hidden dangers that
many young people may not notice right away. To better understand these risks, an institute has analyzed 5.6 billion online activities over the past decade, revealing shocking facts about teens’ unsafe online interactions. Here is the result.
How To Set
Up Privacy Settings
Check privacy settings on every app and site you use. Most platforms hide them in the
account menu, but these settings help you control who can find you and see your posts. To make things easier, here’s a simple checklist you can use on most social media platforms.
Setting What to do

people can save what you share. So, don’t post personal information for everyone to see, such as your full name, school, home address, phone number, or your current location. Before you post, it is recommended that you ask yourself:
●Would I care if my parents see this
●Could this mess up my reputation later
●Am I giving away too much
●Could someone use this info to find me or hurt me

Chen Jianfeng, a 53-year-old Chinese engineer, has spent the past nine years at the
Caculo-Cabaca Hydropower Project in Angola, one of Angola’s key energy projects. His decades of hands-on experience have established him as a master in the field. Arriving in Angola during
the project’s challenging early phase, Chen faced a critical issue: a severe shortage of proficient
workers and limited access to technical resources in the remote area. He swiftly initiated intensive professional training programs.
“In the beginning, local workers had no awareness of material dangers. Safety
consciousness was very low,” Chen recounted, citing an astonishing incident where a local worker casually placed bags of explosives on the ground. “I stopped him immediately and patiently
explained the risks, emphasizing that they must be handled gently and never thrown so casually,” he added. Training methods have since evolved significantly. “We break down complex
procedures into simple steps and use Portuguese mnemonics (memory aids). Now, we can train a competent operator within a month,” Chen said.
Recognizing communication as vital, Chen dedicated himself to learning Portuguese, the
country’s official language. “Sometimes the longest distance isn’t the miles between hemispheres, but me gesturing frantically in front of you while you remain utterly confused!” Chen remarked on the initial language barrier. He carried a notebook constantly, jotting down new words and phrases learned from local workers, diligently reviewing them each night. Within two months, Chen was
proficient enough to assign tasks to Angolan staff in Portuguese. His practical communication skills proved highly effective.
“Language learning isn’t about perfection,” Chen said, “It’s about being understood.
Combine it with gestures for maximum efficiency.” Beyond Portuguese for daily operations, Chen also uses English to communicate with project owners and supervisors. He now routinely greets
local workers on site in Portuguese every morning. Chen stressed the critical importance of clear communication and genuinely resolving issues for Angolan staff. “If an employee reports a
payroll error, I verify it with HR immediately and ensure it’s corrected,” he said. This consistent approach has earned Chen deep trust among his Angolan colleagues, who frequently hail him as “our good captain from China”.
4 .What were the two challenges Chen faced at the early stage of the project
A .Lack of funding and remote location.
B .Shortfall of skilled labor and technical resources.
C .Outdated equipment and harsh climate conditions.
D .Ineffective training methods and language barriers.
5 .What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 3 mainly suggest
A .Gesturing alone is insufficient for precise communication.
B .Cultural differences are the toughest problem in the overseas project.
C .Physical distance is no longer a barrier in modern engineering projects.
D .Language barriers can create more obstacles than geographical separation.
6 .Which statement best captures Chen’s philosophy on workplace communication
A .English is essential for daily task assignment.
B .Language accuracy should be given the first priority.
C .Being understood is more important than being perfect.
D .Verbal communication alone is sufficient for most situations
7 .What can be inferred about Chen’s success in Angola
A .It reflects China’s superior training system.
B .It mainly results from his technical expertise.
C .It depends on his willingness to work with local staff.
D .It shows English’s importance in international projects.

Perler beads, or, as they’re locally known, pindou, are suddenly everywhere in China. This classic craft has surged in popularity among Gen Z consumers. According to recent Spring
Festival consumption data, year-over-year bookings for perler bead workshops jumped 90.18 percent, far outpacing the next-fastest-growing category: pet boarding.
Perler beads, also known as fusible beads, are tiny plastic cylinders arranged on pegboards to form patterns, which are then fused with heat to create finished designs. The craft originated in Sweden in the 1970s and was initially developed as a therapeutic tool Its inventor
believed the fine motor activity could help older adults maintain cognitive function and ease feelings of isolation during long winters.
Today, enthusiasts can either purchase DIY kits online or visit specialized bead studios.
These shops provide materials, tools and an expanded color palette (调色板), allowing customers to create in-store. A recent survey of Nanjing businesses found that most charge between 20 and 50 yuan per person, typically without time limits.
Whether a mindful escape or a creative outlet, perler beads tap into something enduring: the satisfaction of making something tangible, one tiny piece at a time.
So why the craze Psychology offers clues. When fully absorbed in arranging beads,
crafters often enter a state known as “flow” — a term coined by psychologist Mihaly
Csikszentmihalyi to describe deep immersion in a task. “Flow” occurs when the challenge of the task matches the crafter’s skill level, creating a sweet spot between boredom and anxiety. The
state is associated with dopamine release and heightened feelings of focus and satisfaction.
Many are also drawn to the repetitive, rhythmic motion of bead placement, which can
induce a calm mental state similar to mindfulness practice. For a generation navigating constant digital stimulation, the tactile(触觉的) act of crafting provides a welcome mental reset.
There is also an explanation rooted in embodied cognition, a theory that states that thinking is shaped not only by the brain but by bodily movement and sensory experience. Bead crafting
engages touch, sight and sound, creating deeper cognitive engagement than purely digital interaction.
8 .What is the main function of the first paragraph
A .To introduce a trending craft and its commercial success.
B .To compare the growth rates of different holiday services.
C .To explain why Gen Z consumers prefer hands-on activities.
D .To present statistical evidence for craft industry expansion.
9 .What can we learn about perler beads from Paragraphs 2 and 3
A .They are mostly sold in kits through online shopping platforms.
B .They were initially used as a cognitive therapy tool in Sweden.
C .They are manufactured with environmentally friendly materials.
D .Studio sessions in Nanjing cost an average of 35 yuan per hour.
10 .What does the “flow” mentioned in paragraph 5 refer to
A .A rhythmic activity that induces calm through repetition.
B .A cognitive pattern shaped by multisensory engagement.
C .A therapeutic process of arranging beads to relieve loneliness.
D .A mental state where challenge and skill are perfectly balanced.
11 .Why have perler beads gained great popularity among Gen Z
A .They offer a proven method to improve cognitive function.
B .They provide affordable access to professional art training.
C .They satisfy the desire for tangible achievement in a digital age.
D .They enable social connection through shared studio experiences.

Tiny fiddler crabs (招潮蟹) are emerging as unexpected allies in the fight against ocean plastic pollution, according to a groundbreaking study published in January 2026. Researchers
from the University of Exeter discovered that these small crustaceans (甲壳类动物), commonly found in mangrove ecosystems worldwide, can ingest and break down microplastics within days — far faster than natural processes like sunlight and wave action, which usually take months or even years to degrade plastic waste.
The study took place in urban mangroves along Colombia’s Caribbean coast, an area
heavily impacted by plastic pollution due to years of urban and agricultural expansion, with plastic waste often washing into the mangroves from nearby cities and farmlands. Despite being
surrounded by high levels of plastic pollution, the crabs were found to be “thriving” while
performing an important ecological service. As ecosystem engineers, they constantly dig and sort through sediment (沉淀物) to find food such as algae and small invertebrates, unintentionally
ingesting microplastic particles in the process.
Laboratory analysis revealed that approximately 15 percent of the plastic particles
recovered from crab tissues were visibly fragmented, with digestion identified as the primary
cause. The crabs’ powerful gastric mills — professional stomach structures used to grind food — were found to break down plastic particles into smaller pieces. However, researchers caution that this process may also create nanoplastics, which are even smaller than microplastics and could
potentially enter the food chain, posing new risks to marine life and eventually humans who consume seafood.
“These findings highlight nature’s remarkable ability to adapt to human-caused problems,”
said Dr. Emily Taylor, lead author of the study. “While fiddler crabs can’t solve our plastic crisis alone, they demonstrate how even small organisms play critical roles in maintaining ecosystem
health.” The research emphasizes the importance of protecting mangrove habitats, which not only support biodiversity but may also provide natural solutions to some of our most pressing
environmental challenges, offering hope in the global effort to reduce plastic pollution, she added.
12 .What can we learn about fiddler crabs from the passage
A .They have evolved specialized organs to grind plastics.
B .They survive pollution while providing ecological benefits.
C .They accelerate degradation by filtering contaminated water.
D .They depend on microplastics as a supplementary food source.
13 .Which can best describe the process in which fiddler crabs break down microplastics
A .An efficient solution.
B .A double-edged sword.
C .A purely accidental byproduct.
D .An eco-friendly consuming behavior.
14 .What can be inferred from the text about the research implications
A .Small organisms alone can restore damaged ecosystems.
B .Human activity may enhance nature’s self-repair capacity.
C .The findings offer hope but require cautious interpretation.
D .Mangrove protection is a practical solution to plastic pollution.
15 .What is the best title for the passage
A .The Hidden Risks of Marine Plastic Breakdown.
B .Microplastic Degradation: A Chemical Perspective.
C .Nature’s Unsung Helpers in Fighting Microplastics.
D .Mangrove Conservation: A Natural Solution to Plastic Waste.

Are you able to plan a balanced weekly meal Are you able to budget your monthly
allowance wisely Are you able to fix a loose bookshelf or perform basic first aid 16 This exposes a critical gap in modern K-12 education, which often prioritizes exam scores and
academic strictness at the cost of practical life competencies.
Schools have excelled in preparing students to be academic high achievers, but may have fallen short in nurturing essential life skills. 17 For many high school graduates stepping into college or independent living, the lack of these basic skills becomes a sudden and stressful challenge. Unable to cook a simple meal, manage a monthly budget, or even assemble furniture, they often find themselves overwhelmed by the demands of daily life. It is a regret that schools produce academically accomplished individuals who are ill-equipped for routine domestic tasks.
18 For example, financial literacy fosters accountability and careful
decision-making, while lessons on time management cultivate discipline and efficiency. Even basic cooking classes can teach students about nutrition, planning, and self-reliance — qualities that extend far beyond the kitchen. Equipped with these competencies, students can better
navigate adult life and make informed choices for their well-being. Thus, in our complex, fast-paced world, schools must teach beyond traditional academic subjects.
After all, the responsibility cannot be fully shifted to families. The argument that parents should teach practical life skills overlooks modern realities. Many working parents lack the time, and some may not possess the necessary proficiency themselves. 19
Sandra Carey, a noted educator, puts it properly: “Knowledge gets you a job; wisdom gets you a life.” School is not merely a place to transmit knowledge and prepare for careers. 20 A .Hence, schools must bridge this life skills gap.
B .Few of us can confidently say yes to these questions.
C .Yet practical skills are vital for independent adult life.
D .Integrating practical skills helps schools teach fuller life values.
E .Thus, academic achievement should remain the top priority of school education.
F .Rather, it empowers us with the wisdom to build a meaningful, self-sufficient life.
G .For instance, many local communities now offer after-school programs for adult learners.

When I was ten, my parents told me we were going to China for our summer holiday. I was over the moon – I had only ever seen the Great Wall and the Forbidden City in books, and now I would actually get to walk through history!
For weeks, I imagined the towering palaces, the red-and-gold gates, and the stories hidden in every corner. Finally, the day arrived, and there I was, standing in the heart of Beijing, staring up at the most magnificent buildings I had ever seen.
The Forbidden City was even more incredible in real life. The golden roofs shone under the
sun, the delicate carvings told silent tales of emperors and warriors, and the vast courtyards made me feel like I had stepped into a fairy tale. Every turn revealed something new – a dragon statue, a marble staircase, a hidden garden – and I couldn’t stop taking pictures, desperate to capture every detail. My parents laughed as I dragged them from one spot to another, insisting on yet another
photo.
What struck me most were the colors. The imperial yellow of the rooftops against the deep red walls looked brighter than any picture could show. Even the stone pathways seemed to glow with centuries of footsteps. I remembered running my fingers along a carved marble railing,
wondering how many hands had touched that same spot over six hundred years.
The place was packed with tourists, all murmuring in different languages, their faces filled with the same amazement as mine. Some pointed at the architecture, others posed for pictures, and a few just stood quietly, taking it all in. The energy was infectious – everyone seemed to feel the
magic of this ancient place.
As the afternoon wore on, we followed the crowd toward the exit. The sea of people was overwhelming, and I, being small for my age, grasped my father’s hand tightly, afraid to get lost in the rushing crowd. The noise, the heat, and the excitement made everything feel like a blur –
until suddenly, I looked down at the large hand I was holding – the wrong watch, the wrong-colored ring.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为 150 个左右;
My blood turned to ice.

with dopamine release and heightened feelings of focus and satisfaction.(“流”状态出现在任务的挑战与编织者的技能水平相匹配时,它在无聊和焦虑之间创造了一个理想的平衡点。
根据第四段“Whether a mindful escape or a creative outlet, perler beads tap into something enduring: the satisfaction of making something tangible, one tiny piece at a time.( 无论是作为一种放松的方式,还是作为一种表达创意的途径,perler beads 都能触及一种持久的体验:那就是通过一点一点地制作出实实在在的东西而获得的满足感。)”和第六段中“For a generation navigating constant digital stimulation, the tactile(触觉的) act of crafting provides a welcome mental reset.( 对于一个在持续的数字刺激中不断前行的一代人来说,编织这种触觉行为提供了一种受欢迎的思维重启方式。)”

根据第二段中“Despite being surrounded by high levels of plastic pollution, the crabs were found to be “thriving” while performing an important ecological service.(尽管周围有高浓度的塑料污染,但这些螃蟹被发现在‘茁壮成长’,同时履行着重要的生态服务功能)”可知,招潮蟹能够在污染环境中生存并提供生态效益,故选 B。
根据第一段“Researchers from the University of Exeter discovered that these small crustaceans (甲壳类动物), commonly found in mangrove ecosystems worldwide, can ingest and break down microplastics within days — far faster than natural processes like sunlight and
wave action, which usually take months or even years to degrade plastic waste.(埃克塞特大学的研究人员发现,这些在全球红树林生态系统中常见的小甲壳类动物可以在几天内摄入并分解微塑料——比阳光和波浪作用等自然过程要快得多,而自然过程通常需要数月甚至数年才能降解塑料废物。)” 以及第三段中“However, researchers caution that this process may also create nanoplastics, which are even smaller than microplastics and could potentially enter the food chain,
posing new risks to marine life and eventually humans who consume seafood.(然而,研究人员警告说,这一过程也可能产生纳米塑料,纳米塑料甚至比微塑料还小,可能会进入食物链,给海洋生物和最终食用海鲜的人类带来新的风险。)”
While fiddler crabs can’t solve our plastic crisis alone, they demonstrate how even small organisms play critical roles in maintaining ecosystem health.” The
research emphasizes the importance of protecting mangrove habitats, which not only support
biodiversity but may also provide natural solutions to some of our most pressing environmental
challenges, offering hope in the global effort to reduce plastic pollution, she added.(‘虽然招潮蟹不能单独解决我们的塑料危机,但它们表明,即使是小生物也在维持生态系统健康方面发挥着关键作用。’
根据第一段“Researchers from the University of Exeter discovered that these small crustaceans (甲壳类动物), commonly found in mangrove ecosystems worldwide, can ingest and break down microplastics within days — far faster than natural processes like sunlight and wave action, which usually take months or even years to degrade plastic waste.(埃克塞特大学的研究人员发现,这些在全球红树林生态系统中常见的小甲壳类动物可以在几天内摄入并分解微塑料——比阳光和波浪作用等自然过程要快得多,而自然过程通常需要数月甚至数年才能降解塑料废物。)”

16 .前文“Are you able to plan a balanced weekly meal Are you able to budget your monthly
allowance wisely Are you able to fix a loose bookshelf or perform basic first aid 以三个问句开头,后文“This exposes a critical gap in modern K-12 education, which often prioritizes exam scores and academic strictness at the cost of
practical life competencies.
17 .前文“Schools have excelled in preparing students to be academic high achievers, but may
have fallen short in nurturing essential life skills. 指出学校在学术培养上成功,但在生活技能培养上不足,后文“For many high school graduates stepping into college or
independent living, the lack of these basic skills becomes a sudden and stressful challenge. 指出高中毕业生缺乏基本技能时的困境,空处应进一步强调生活技能的重要性,因此 C 项“Yet practical skills are vital for independent adult life.
18.后文“For example, financial literacy fosters accountability and careful decision-making, while lessons on time management cultivate discipline and efficiency. Even basic cooking classes can
teach students about nutrition, planning, and self-reliance — qualities that extend far beyond the
kitchen.
19 .前文“The argument that parents should teach practical life skills overlooks modern realities. Many working parents lack the time, and some may not possess the necessary proficiency themselves. (那种认为家长应当传授实用生活技能的观点忽视了现实情况。许多在职父母根 本没有时间去教授这些技能,而且有些家长自身也可能不具备相应的技能水平。)”讨论家庭难以承担生活技能教育责任,空处应提出解决方案或进一步论证学校责任,因此 A 项“Hence, schools must bridge this life skills gap. (因此,学校必须弥补这一生活技能缺口。)”符合语境,是基于前文逻辑得出的推论。故选 A。
20 .前文“Sandra Carey, a noted educator, puts it properly: “Knowledge gets you a job; wisdom
gets you a life.” School is not merely a place to transmit knowledge and prepare for careers. 用教育家的话说明知识和智慧的作用,表明学校不仅是传授知识和职业准备的地方,空处应进一步说明学校在智慧上的更高使命,因此 F 项“Rather, it empowers us with the wisdom to build a meaningful, self-sufficient life.

46 .Art Lifts Spirits
As we can see in the picture, drawing an apple with a pencil brings peace and focus. Art, in fact, is a powerful helper for our mental health.
It lets us express feelings that are hard to put into words, calms our busy minds, and gives us a sense of achievement. When creating art, we forget stress and find inner joy.
Let’s pick up a brush, pen or crayon! Spend 10 minutes a day on simple art—drawing,
coloring or doodling. It will lift our spirits and keep our minds healthy.
My blood turned to ice. Panic seized me instantly as I pulled my hand away, my heart
pounding wildly. I spun around, scanning the surging crowd, but my parents were nowhere to be seen. Tears blurred my vision, and I could barely breathe, overwhelmed by the noise and the sea of strangers. Just as I was about to break down, a gentle voice calmed me down. A kind Chinese man noticed my anxiety, knelt down to my level, and spoke in fluent English, asking if I had lost my parents. He comforted me patiently, told me to stay calm, and offered to help me find them. We stood at a clear spot near the exit, and he helped me announce my situation to the crowd.
Suddenly, I heard a familiar, anxious voice calling my name.
With the help of the kind Chinese man, I found my father. He rushed through the crowd, his face pale with worry, and hugged me tightly the moment he saw me. My mother followed closely behind, tears of relief streaming down her face. We turned to the kind man and expressed our
deepest gratitude, thanking him repeatedly for his selfless help. He smiled warmly, waved
goodbye, and disappeared into the crowd. This experience made me realize that the Forbidden
City’s beauty was not only in its magnificent architecture, but also in the kindness of the Chinese people, which warmed my heart deeply.
