Take your time
If you develop an interest in running, you may want to run often. However, overdoing it or pushing yourself too hard can cause you to get hurt. It’s also important not to run too fast at the beginning. Run at a pace (速度) that feels comfortable. And if you’re planning on a long run, remember to increase your pace slowly.
Take breaks
Resting is as important as training. Your body needs time to rest after hard runs. Running coach Sam Murphy says that if you run hard one day, you should take a break or do an easier run the next day. Some runners follow the 80/20 plan:80% of their runs each week are easy, and only 20% are hard.
Have a strong body
According to Runner’s World, strength (力量) training is great for runners. It can help make your body stronger, lower the risk of getting hurt, and even improve your speed. However, this doesn’t mean you need to do heavy weight training. Simple exercises at home, like sit-ups and push-ups, can be good too.
Have a good diet
Eating and drinking the right things is also important. “Many people forget this.” Dr. Hobrough said. “Drink lots of water and eat foods rich in protein (蛋白质), like eggs, chicken and milk. These can help your energy return quickly.”
