Last weekend, I took my 2-year-old grandson, Rio, to the park. My goal was to get him
outside to burn some energy and teach him about the ducks. He had no goals. Two-year-olds don’t need goals. That was the first lesson I learned that day.
He had a sense of wonder. As soon as we entered the park, he looked up at the sky and
found joy in watching the clouds. Next, he stared at the trees, laughing as he tried to catch the
rustling leaves. At that moment, nothing could have amused him more. His curiosity was constant, endless. He was always on the search for sticks. He scraped the ground with them, rapped a
drumbeat with them on trees and benches, and waved them in the air like a flag. No thought of a stick being used as a weapon. No need for toys or electronic devices, unlike at home. Just sticks.
There were a few kids playing and a regular procession of people out for their morning dog walk. Rio said hi to everyone and stuck out his hand for a high-five with a few 4-and5-year-olds, who weren’t sure how to respond. But they all said hi back. He tried to strike up conversations
with enthusiasm. It was clear he didn’t care what people looked like or how old they were. No judgment. No fear. Just a sincere desire to connect.
My biggest revelation was that Rio was fully present no matter what he was doing. He
never asked what time it was, when we were leaving, or what we were going to do next. He was, every second, completely and absolutely in the moment.
I had expected to be the teacher, but I had it backward. My grandson helped me remember things we’re born knowing but forget in the process of becoming an adult.

A .The park was ideal for teaching. B .planned activities bored children.
C .His plan didn’t fit a child’s nature. D .His goals were not clear enough.

D .To compare sticks with electronic devices.
6 .What can be inferred about Rio from paragraph 3
A .He was too young to respond properly.
B .He preferred talking to children of his age.
C .He greeted others to seek positive feedback.
D .He was open to connections with others.
7 .What does the author’s experience show
A .The value of family outings. B .The lost wisdom of living.
C .The harm of setting goals. D .The way to develop curiosity.

Only about three percent of early childhood teachers in the U.S. are male. Experts say this can have an impact on young children whose understanding of gender roles and identity is rapidly forming. Research has found that having access to diverse teachers is beneficial for children. For the youngest learners, it means they are more likely to be exposed to various types of play and
communication. It also helps them develop healthy ideas around gender.
“In our world and our society, we have very specific stereotypes (刻板印象) of gender
roles,” said Mindi Reich-Shapiro, an assistant professor in the teacher education department of the Borough of Manhattan Community College, and one of the authors of a recent study. “It’s
important for children to see other possibilities and other paths they can take.”
Despite mostly feeling supported by colleagues and family members, many of the male
educators surveyed in the study reported facing social or cultural resistance in their careers as
early education teachers. Some also reported that some parents were surprised or concerned that
their child had a male teacher. Additionally, they had been advised by colleagues or other staff not to hug children.
Reich-Shapiro and fellow researchers made several recommendations to increase male
representation in the field. Low pay has long been acknowledged as a major issue in the early
childhood field. Over 70% of male educators who said they intended to stay in the early education workforce noted that an increased salary was a major motivating factor for them to remain in the career for the long term. The report suggests paying all early childhood educators the way
elementary school teachers are paid.
Cities and programs should establish support groups for male early childhood educators and provide mentoring and professional development advice for male educators and their program
leaders.
The authors also suggest that traditional recruitment (招聘) approaches for early childhood educators “do not address the gender gap in the field.” They recommend providing young men
with opportunities to work with children through training and volunteer programs, specifically targeting groups of men who are considering a career change, such as fathers.
8 .What is a main benefit of having male early childhood teachers
A .Challenging gender fixed ideas. B .Helping children form positive gender ideas.
C .Serving as role models for children. D .Exposing children to different types of play.
9 .What does the social resistance male teachers face imply
A .Understanding from relatives is important. B .Parents’ doubts have a profound impact.
C.Changing old gender views is needed. D.Coworkers’ advice really makes a difference.
10 .What is a suggested way to attract more men into the field
A .Set up development courses. B .Limit recruitment requirements.
C .Pay equal to elementary teachers. D .Provide more job opportunities.
11 .What is a suitable title for the text
A .Men Missing in Early Childhood Education
B .Solutions for Gender Gap in Early Education
C .Importance of Male Teachers in Early Education
D .Challenges Male Teachers Face in Early Education
D
In today’s fast-paced digital world, two powerful yet often overlooked approaches to
learning are gaining attention: curiosity-driven inquiry and active content creation. The science
podcast Tumble, for example, invites young listeners to explore real scientific questions — such as “Could dinosaurs burp ” or “What would happen if there were no trees ” — not by giving
quick answers, but by walking them through how scientists investigate such mysteries. Episodes feature interviews with researchers, discussions of evidence, and honest admissions when answers remain uncertain. This mirrors how real science works: messy, collaborative, and full of wonder.
Equally valuable is the act of creating one’s own learning materials. As educators
increasingly suggest, designing a quiz isn’tjust a review tool — it’s a deep cognitive exercise.
When students craft questions about a topic they care about, they must organize knowledge,
anticipate misunderstandings, and distinguish between surface facts and core concepts. A
well-structured quiz typically includes 9 to 12 questions of varied difficulty, uses clear language, and often adds a playful — but not misleading — distractor to its options to keep participants
engaged.
Crucially, both approaches share a common principle: learning thrives when learners take ownership. Whether by asking bold questions like those on Tumble or by testing peers with
self-made quizzes, students shift from passive recipients to active thinkers. Early classroom trials show that such methods improve long-term memory and boost motivation, especially among those who struggle with traditional learning.
Of course, these strategies work best with guidance. Teachers can help students refine their questions, evaluate sources, and interpret feedback. But the core message remains: when
education starts with genuine curiosity and empowers creation, it doesn’t just transmit knowledge
— it cultivates scientific habits of mind.
12 .What is a key feature of the podcast Tumble
A .It provides accurate answers to all scientific questions.
B .It encourages memorization of basic scientific facts.
C .It reflects the real process of scientific investigation.
D .It replaces formal school science courses with audio.
13 .The word “distractor” in Paragraph 2 most likely refers to .
A .a fun but tricky option in a quiz B .a visual aid to enhance engagement
C .a misleading and confusing question D .a difficult scientific term used in teaching
14 .What is the author’s opinion of the teachers’ role
A .Teachers focus on knowledge transmission only. B .Teachers should be given priority in education.
C .Teachers act as guides rather than authorities. D .Teachers need to provide strict guidelines. 15 .What is the main purpose of the passage
A .To introduce digital learning tools for teenagers. B .To advocate curiosity-driven learning methods.
C .To explain steps to create podcasts or quizzes. D .To criticize excessive reliance on technology.

How To Befriend Like-Minded People
One of the best ways to improve your social life is to find like-minded people. But the process of finding them becomes useless if you can’t befriend them at all. 16 .
Introduce yourself properly. Practice introducing yourself before you go out to meet new people. That first impression matters in this case. 17 . Simply tell them it’s nice to meet them while you shake their hands, and a smile as you do these things can help, too.
Set proper expectations. Just because you and someone else share an interest, opinion, or belief, that doesn’t mean you two will hit it off. 18 . If things don’t go your way, simply
shake it off, and move on. There are a lot of other people out there who will be more than willing to be friends with you.
19 . When you finally meet a like-minded person, take advantage of the thing you already know you have in common. Start talking about your common interest and the like. Learn from each other. Grow and be more knowledgeable together. This foundation creates a really
strong bond later on.
Exchange numbers. Once you’ve had a pleasant exchange with a like-minded person,
don’t let the opportunity of a friendship go to waste. 20 . Then, contact them afterward saying how great of a time you had interacting with them. This lets them know that you enjoyed their company and it opens up future interactions.
A .Begin exchanging knowledge
B .Here are some tips on how to do it
C .Be open-minded when it comes to learning
D .Your introduction can be very short and brief
E .It can take even longer to become friends with them
F .Be sure to exchange numbers or any other contact information
G .Don’t expect to be friends with every like-minded person you meet

I was incredibly proud of my school, the Maplewood Elementary. It connected me to my roots, as my father and grandfather had all graduated from here.
So, when our teacher Mr. Dow announced a group project to create a brochure (小册子) about our school for its 100th anniversary, I was excited. The best three brochures would be
displayed in the school library, which was a chance to show the new students how wonderful our school was.
I was paired with two classmates: Jake who loved photography, and Lily who had a gift for writing. Working with others could be fun, right But my enthusiasm quickly faded.
Our first meeting was a disaster. When we discussed which part of the school we should focus on, Jake kept talking about cameras and photos. I turned to Lily, hoping for some support. But she simply shrugged and said, “I’m not really into this. It sounds boring.” Jake nodded in
agreement. The project seemed to be harder than I thought.
At our next meeting, I tried to lead the conversation back to the project. I shared some
interesting facts I had researched about the school. However, neither of them seemed interested. Jake had promised to gather materials from the library, but instead he showed us photos taken on the weekend. Lily hadn’t started her part of the research either, claiming she had been too busy. I felt like I was the only one who cared.
Back home, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I stayed up late that night, trying to
create the brochure by myself. But no matter how hard I tried, the result was far from satisfactory. I was exhausted and disheartened. My mom noticed I was upset. “You can’t do this alone,” she
gently reminded me. “Jake and Lily have talents that can make this project shine. You just need to find a way to get them involved.”注意:
1.续写词数应为 150 个左右;

根据文章第一段“My goal was to get him outside to burn some energy and teach him about the ducks. He had no goals. Two-year-olds don't need goals. That was the first lesson I learned that day.(我本想带他到户外消耗些精力,还想教他认识小鸭子。可他压根没什么 目的——两岁的孩子本就不需要目的,这是我那天学到的第一课。)”可知,作者带着明确的目的去公园,却发现两岁的孩子本就不需要所谓的目标,这是他学到的第一课,即他的计划不符合孩子的天性。故选 C。
5 .推理判断题。根据文章第二段“He had a sense of wonder. As soon as we entered the park, he looked up at the sky and found joy in watching the clouds. Next, he stared at the trees, laughing as he tried to catch the rustling leaves. At that moment, nothing could have amused him more. His

Rio said hi to everyone and stuck out his hand for a high-five with a few 4-and5-year-olds, who weren't sure how to respond. But they all said hi back. He tried
to strike up conversations with enthusiasm. It was clear he didn't care what people looked like or
how old they were. No judgment. No fear. Just a sincere desire to connect.(Rio 跟每个人都热情

I had expected to be the teacher, but I had it backward. My grandson helped me remember things we’re born knowing but forget in the process of becoming

根据第一段“Only about three percent of early childhood teachers in the U.S. are male. Experts say this can have an impact on young children whose understanding of gender roles and identity is rapidly forming. Research has found that having access to diverse teachers is
beneficial for children. For the youngest learners, it means they are more likely to be exposed to

Despite mostly feeling supported by colleagues and family members, many of the male educators surveyed in the study reported facing social or cultural resistance in
their careers as early education teachers. Some also reported that some parents were surprised or

Dear judges and fellow students,
It’s my great honor to share my ideas on Energy Saving for a Better World. Energy plays an
important role in our daily lives. It lights up our classrooms, runs our computers and keeps our
homes warm. However, most of the energy we use is limited and non-renewable, so energy saving is our shared responsibility for a sustainable future.
Energy saving starts with small acts around us. First, remember to switch off lights, devices and chargers when leaving — such a tiny move saves much power. Besides, Walk or cycle for
short trips, and set air conditioners to 26℃ in summer. What’s more, use reusable bags instead of plastic ones when shopping. Let’s act together to save energy and build a better world.
Thanks for listening!

“Your camera can save the moment for the future,” I told Jake, whose eyes suddenly sparkled.
Then I suggested he photograph every corner of the school like “time travelers”. Meanwhile, Lily was engaged in my grandfather’s love letter, eager to bring hidden stories back to life. I organized layouts, combining historical accuracy with creativity. Laughter replaced frustration as the clock ticked.
On the final day, we presented our brochure in class. We stood by the blackboard as
everyone went through the pages. They examined the brochure carefully, with their fingers tracing the photos, narratives and timelines which a connected three generations of graduates. Faces held surprise. Mr. Dow tapped our shining names: “This isn’t just for the anniversary—it’s about how its spirit lives through students’ cooperation.” That afternoon, seeing our brochure displayed, we
knew combined talents created what none could alone.
