When I started university, people told me, “These will be the best days of your life.” Not only would these be the best days of my life, everyone said, but they would also be the most exciting. By the end of my first year I was seriously considering dropping out. I had not made as many friends, had as much fun, or enjoyed my course as much as I thought I was going to. But I didn’t tell anyone.
I certainly didn’t put it on Facebook — its culture of competitive sharing made me feel even worse. Visiting my friends’ Facebook, I found that they were clearly enjoying themselves a lot.
Jemma Lamble and I are friends on Facebook — what impression did she get from my Facebook page “There is one feeling I got when I clicked on Libby’s Facebook page and that is jealousy.”
Talking to fellow students has made me realize how little resemblance our Facebook lives have to our real ones. “University life wasn’t the walk in the park I had expected,” says Jemma. “I certainly didn’t expect the feeling of loneliness that I experienced because I found it hard to connect with the people on my course.”
Sophie Smith remembers her first day, “As I walked into my first class, I tried my hardest to smile at everyone and make friends. But I was shocked by how blank some people were. I said to one guy, ‘Wow, LCF, I still can’t believe I’m here’. He replied, ‘Well, LCF is lucky to have me.’”
My time at university may not have been the dream that I signed up for, but it has made me who I am. LCF did not provide me with the social experience I dreamed of, but it has made me appreciate the good friends I have kept from my childhood and each new one I have made here. Studying in London was frightening at times, but I have become much more independent as a result. Now that I am starting my third and final year, I can look back and see that university has been an experience.

B.Sometimes a Facebook page may be a lie.
C.Facebook lives are a mirror of the real ones.
D.People really enjoy themselves on Facebook.

A.Fortunate B.Impolite C.Humorous D.Considerate
27.What does the author mainly say in the last paragraph
A.She feels regretful.

C.Hardship has made her stronger.
D.Friendship weighs more than social experience.
C
Whether humanity expresses itself in paintings, books, movies, songs or any other creative media, art always finds its way back to the person who made it and their life stories. It is hard to define what “good” art is, but to me, it means anything that somebody created with the intention of representing something that matters to them.
The one thing that I will never call “art”, however, is anything that was made with artificial intelligence.
Take painting for example. Most of the well-known painters of the past 200 years drew on the lives they lived to make their art. Claude Monet, for example, was inspired by the water garden that he would see daily at his estate (房产) in Normandy, France. This series included some of his most famous works made in the impressionism style, which focuses on creating the illusion (幻觉) of movement to represent humanity.
The point is that painters drew on the places they lived in and their views of life to create art. They used their understanding of style, color and movement to create lovely images and represent what mattered to them. That is something that AI is unable to do. The AI program can only generate an image based on a collection of images from the websites. It cannot draw on its own experience at all.
Another common use of AI programs is to have them generate the written word. For me, there is no heart or soul in what the AI produces. The product requires no thought or effort, both of which are key parts of meaningful written work. Author Nora Roberts, who has had 68 of her romance novels appear on The New York Times bestseller list, once said that you have to love the written word to be capable of good writing. AI cannot feel emotions and love what it writes. Therefore, how could it ever create good writing
The beautiful thing about life is that we all go through it differently, and art has the ability to bring us together with our unique experiences. Neither can AI replicate (复制) that, nor should we make it try.
28.What is considered essential for creating meaningful art
A.Artistic skills. B.Unique styles of art. C.Personal experiences. D.Advanced technologies.
29.Why does the author mention Monet’s artworks
A.To highlight Monet’s talent for art. B.To give an example of genuine art.
C.To trace the beginnings of impressionism. D.To describe famous painting techniques.
30.What is lacking in AI-produced writing
A.Accuracy and detail. B.Depth and persuasion.
C.Structure and balance. D.Emotion and passion.
31.What does the author wish to achieve in the text
A.To criticize writers’ dependence on AI. B.To show AI’s value in creative work.
C.To discourage the use of AI in art. D.To reveal AI’s importance to artists.
D
Most air conditioners use refrigerant gases called HFCs (氢氟碳化合物), which are hundreds of times more effective at trapping heat in the atmosphere than CO2. Researchers have long sought ways to produce cooling systems that do without these troublesome gases. Now Exergyn, a Dublin-based company, claims to have developed a new type of air conditioning which avoids using HFCs.
Exergyn’s system uses nitinol, a shape-memory alloy (合金) of nickel and titanium. All shape-memory alloys release heat when compressed (压缩), and then absorb it when the pressure is released and they return to their original shape. But Exergyn’s version of nitinol displays this quality to a remarkable degree. For its experimental model, the company produced 4cm2 plates of the alloy, each with holes to permit the passage of a heat-carrying liquid or gas. A range of eco-friendly substances such as water, salty water and air can be employed in that role, thus avoiding the use of HFCs.
Kevin O’Toole, Exergyn’s managing director, explains, “To build a refrigerator involves fitting these plates together into stacks of 50 or more. Four stacks make a unit. The stacks are compressed in turn. At any given moment, one stack is being compressed, one released, one pre-heated and one pre-cooled. To cool a room involves passing one hot circuit and one cold circuit of the heat-carrying fluid or gas through this four-stack unit.”
This method of cooling is not only more environmentally friendly than an HFC set-up, but will also be less expensive to buy and 30% — 40% cheaper to run. It will be lighter and smaller, too. As for reliability, the prototype’s performance suggests the unit could operate for more than 40 years without a problem.
Development is still continuing, but products may be only a few years away. Exergyn has also begun talks with carmakers and aerospace companies about setting up joint-development projects. With cars and some small aircraft going electric, it is not just cooling the cabin that manufacturers have to think about, but also cooling the batteries.
32.Why did Exergyn develop a new type of air conditioning
A.Because HFCs are harmful to the atmosphere.
B.Because traditional air conditioners are too expensive to run.
C.Because nitinol is easier to get than HFCs in the market.
D.Because researchers forced the company to do so.
33.Which aspect of Exergyn’s new air conditioning system is mainly described in paragraph 3
A.Its costs. B.Its designer.
C.Its advantage. D.Its working process.
34.What will Exergyn do next
A.It is likely to expand its business.
B.It will shift its focus to battery production.
C.It plans to greatly increase its advertising spend.
D.It will set up a company to produce vehicles.
35.What can be the best title for the passage
A.Air Conditioners: A Method of Cooling B.Nitinol: A Cooler Alternative
C.Exergyn: A New Company D.CO2 and HFCs: Potential Crises
Ever feel like there’s never enough time these days Chased by deadlines and bombarded with (狂轰滥炸) social media content, we feel that each day is full. 36
The idea of “time poverty” is not new. First introduced in 1977, it has attracted much attention over the decades, according to Forbes. Cassie Holmes, a US social psychologist, tracked the time data of tens of thousands of people and found that when people have less than two hours of free time each day, their life satisfaction drops. 37
We live in a world that values productivity. People are expected to be efficient, take on different roles and deal with many tasks. This can lead to a lack of personal time, hurting the individual’s well-being. 38 A University of Chicago study found that over the past decade, people’s participation in community activities had dropped by 58 percent, and the chance of neighbors knowing each other had fallen from 75 percent in the 1980s to only 22 percent in 2022.
39 Holmes pointed out that when people have over five hours of free time a day, they may start to feel a loss of purpose and achievement. Those who have two to five hours of free time each day report the highest levels of happiness and satisfaction.
Time is a resource that is equally shared among all people. The key lies not in how much time we have, but in how we use it. 40 Exercising or volunteering can help you make the most of your time and give you a sense of achievement.
A.Make a strict schedule for everyday activities.
B.It can also cause a crisis in social relationships.
C.You should reduce workload and social arrangements.
D.They may even start to experience feelings such as anxiety and burnout.
E.However, when we stop to think about our day, we might feel a bit empty.
F.Despite these facts, more free time does not necessarily mean greater happiness.
G.If you ever feel short on time, try making small changes to find some “me time”.

Asad was a 13-year-old boy who was very honest and hardworking. Recently, he had entered a new school, so he had no friends yet. On Monday morning, he was nearly late for school. The night before, his family attended his cousin’s wedding and reached home late, which was why he couldn’t get up on time as usual.
At school, Asad could not pay attention to anything and wanted the bell to ring so that he could buy something to eat. After a few hours, when the bell rang, Asad quickly opened his schoolbag to find his money, but just then he remembered that he had left for school in a hurry in the morning and forgotten to take money. He looked under his books, hoping to find some money but there was nothing.
Not knowing what to do, he walked out of the classroom and sat on a bench in front of the canteen. He saw a few of his classmates there, among them was Fahad. He was one of the richest kids in his class, but he was a very arrogant (傲慢的) boy who thought everyone else was a loser. But as Asad was new, he didn’t know much about Fahad.
When he went towards Fahad and asked if he could borrow some money for his lunch, Fahad laughed a lot and said, “I knew you were a loser, maybe a beggar ” Fahad laughed out so loud that other kids also heard and made fun of the situation. He didn’t answer Fahad, and slowly walked back towards an empty bench.
When he reached the bench, he noticed something lying near it. It was a wallet. He picked it up and recognized it as Fahad’s, as he remembered Fahad showing it to his friends and telling that his uncle bought it for him from the UK. There was quite a lot of money inside for a kid.
At first, Asad wanted to keep it a secret and punished Fahad.__________________________________________

A
【答案】21.B 22.C 23.A
根据原文 “curious about film-making” 与题干 “film-making lovers” 为同义转换(低阶词 “curious about” 与高阶词 “lovers” 对应),故 C 项正确。
根据第一段中“By the end of my first year I was seriously considering dropping out. I had not made as many friends, had as much fun, or enjoyed my course as much as I thought I was going to. (在第一年结束时,我正认真考虑退学。我没有交到那么多朋友,没有玩得那么开心,也没有像我认为的那样享受我的课程)”可推知,作者对她的校园生活感到失望。故选C。
25.细节理解题。根据第二段“I certainly didn’t put it on Facebook — its culture of competitive sharing made me feel even worse. Visiting my friends’ Facebook, I found that they were clearly enjoying themselves a lot. (我当然没有把它放在Facebook上——Facebook上那种竞争性分享的文化让我感觉更糟。当我访问我朋友的Facebook时,我发现他们显然玩得很开心)”以及第四段中“Talking to fellow students has made me realize how little resemblance our Facebook lives have to our real ones. (与同学们的交谈让我意识到,我们在Facebook上的生活与现实生活是多么的不一样)”可知,Facebook上人们分享的内容可能并不是真实生活的反映,人们在Facebook上可能表现得比现实中更快乐,Facebook页面可能是一个完全的谎言。故选B。
26.推理判断题。根据第五段中““As I walked into my first class, I tried my hardest to smile at everyone and make friends. But I was shocked by how blank some people were. I said to one guy, ‘Wow, LCF, I still can’t believe I’m here’. He replied, ‘Well, LCF is lucky to have me.’”
根据最后一段中“My time at university may not have been the dream that I signed up for, but it has made me who I am. LCF did not provide me with the social experience I dreamed of, but it has made me appreciate the good friends I have kept from my childhood and each new one I have made here. Studying in London was frightening at times, but I have become much more independent as a result.
根据第一段中的“but to me, it means anything that somebody created with the intention of representing something that matters to them (但对我来说,好的艺术是创作者为了表达对自己重要的事物而创作的作品)”以及第三段中的“Most of the well-known painters of the past 200 years drew on the lives they lived to make their art (过去200年里,大多数著名画家都是从自己的生活中汲取灵感进行创作)”可知,创作有意义的艺术的关键要素是个人经历。故选C项。
结合第四段首句“The point is that painters drew on the places they lived in and their views of life to create art (关键在于,画家们从自己生活的环境和对生活的见解中汲取灵感进行创作)”可知,作者提及莫奈的作品是为了举例说明什么是真正的艺术。故选B项。
根据第五段中的“For me, there is no heart or soul in what the AI produces (在我看来,人工智能生成的文字缺乏灵魂与内核)”以及“AI cannot feel emotions and love what it writes (人工智能无法感受情感,也不会热爱自己写下的内容)”可知,人工智能生成的文字缺少的是情感与热忱。故选D项。
D
【答案】32.A 33.D 34.A 35.B
根据第一段“Most air conditioners use refrigerant gases called HFCs (氢氟碳化合物), which are hundreds of times more effective at trapping heat in the atmosphere than CO . Researchers have long sought ways to produce cooling systems that do without these troublesome gases.(大多数空调使用被称为氢氟碳化合物(HFCs)的制冷剂气体,它们在大气中捕获热量的能力是二氧化碳的数百倍。长期以来,研究人员一直在寻找无需使用这些麻烦气体的制冷系统。)”可知,Exergyn研发新型空调是因为HFCs对大气有害。故选A。
根据第三段“Kevin O’Toole, Exergyn’s managing director, explains, “To build a refrigerator involves fitting these plates together into stacks of 50 or more. Four stacks make a unit. The stacks are compressed in turn. At any given moment, one stack is being compressed, one released, one pre-heated and one pre-cooled. To cool a room involves passing one hot circuit and one cold circuit of the heat-carrying fluid or gas through this four-stack unit.”(Kevin O’Toole,Exergyn的总经理,解释道:“要制造一台冰箱,需要将这些合金片组装成50片或更多片的堆叠组。四个堆叠组构成一个单元。这些堆叠组会依次被压缩。在任何时刻,一个堆叠组处于被压缩状态,一个处于释放状态,一个处于预热状态,还有一个处于预冷状态。给房间降温需要让载热流体或气体的一个热回路和一个冷回路通过这个四堆叠组单元。”)”可知,第三段主要描述了该空调系统的工作过程。故选D。

Hello, everyone. Today, I am very glad to have the opportunity to make this presentation. I shall be speaking about “Music and life”.
As we all know, music performs an important/significant role in our daily lives. Just as the saying goes, music is the medicine of the heart. It enables us to feel relaxed both mentally and physically, giving us energy. Moreover, when I’m in trouble, music can lift up my spirits and inspire me to overcome/get over difficulties. Besides, the Chinese traditional music is my favourite, which sounds peaceful and touches my soul. Every time I feel tired or anxious, classical music helps me calm down.
All in all, I hope all of you will somehow begin to treasure music and make it a part of your life.
Thank you!
At first, Asad wanted to keep it a secret and punished Fahad. At least he could afford the lunch now. However, another voice popped up, urging him to give it back to Fahad, which made him feel torn. “I should never keep the wallet at the cost of my honesty, and Fahad would be extremely embarrassed without any money in the presence of so many classmates ” Asad convinced himself. Once he made up his mind, he caught him up. “Fahad, it’s your wallet and I found it on the bench.” Taking over the wallet, Fahad stared into Asad’s eyes with a puzzled look written on his face.
Then Fahad said,“Why are you giving it back ” He even looked into his wallet, obviously doubtful about Asad’s act. Calmly and patiently, Asad explained, “I had originally wanted to keep it secret as a punishment for your arrogance, but being honest matters more.” Hearing that, Fahad felt his face burning with shame. He bent, thanking Asad for saving him from the embarrassing situation and apologizing to the classmates around for calling them losers. “And the lunch is on me. You all are my friends ” Fahad announced.
