be connected to 表示“与……相连”,一般指物理上的连接(如设备、地点) ,be connected with 指抽象意义上的关联(如概念、事物关系) 。
connect 的常用短语:1) connect sth. to... 把某物连接到……上
2) connect sb. with sb./sth. 使某人与某人/ 物有联系
3) connect... and... 使……与……连接
e.g. The village is connected to the city by a new highway.

Language points
widely 作副词,意为“广泛地;普遍地”,修饰动词,强调范围广或程度深。还可以表示“大大地;很大程度上”,强调程度差异。
常见搭配:widely known 广为人知的 widely accepted 普遍接受的
widely used 广泛使用的
相关词汇:wide adj. 宽的;广阔的 width n. 宽度;广度
e.g. The new technology is widely used in industry.

Language points
But when I was a student, computers were not widely used.
look up (在词典、参考书中或通过电脑)查阅;抬头看
(1)此处意为“查阅”,可接名词或代词作宾语。宾语如果为人称代词,要放在look和up之间;如果是名词,放在look和up之间或up之后均可。
(2)意为“抬头看”,常和from连用。
look的常见短语:look after照顾 look for寻找 look around环顾 look like看起来像look through快速查看;浏览 look over 查看;检查
e.g. He looked up a number in his phone. = He looked a number up in his phone.他在手机里查了一个号码。
She looked up from her book as I entered the room. 我进房间时,她从书本上抬起头来看了看。

When I didn’t know how to spell a word, I had to look it up in a printed
dictionary.
application n. 意为“应用”时,为不可数名词。还可意为“应用程序;申请;申请书”,为可数名词。
常见搭配:application of + 理论 / 方法 ……的应用
make an application (to sb.) for sth.(向某人) 申请某物
submit an application 提交申请
相关词:apply v. 应用;申请 apply for...申请……
apply... to... 把……应用到…… applicable adj. 适用的
be applicable to 适用于……

什么时候用被动语态?
时间标志词
表示过去的时间词:yesterday(昨天) , last week/month/year (上周 / 上个月 / 去年) , ago(以前) , in + 过去年份(如 in 2010) , the other day(前几天) 等。
e.g. The museum was opened two years ago.
博物馆两年前开放了。
These photos were taken last summer.
这些照片是去年夏天拍的。
2) 在动词原形后加ed
4) 以辅音加y结尾的,去y变i加ed
1) 以不发音e结尾的加d
3) 以重读闭音节结尾,末尾只有一个辅音字母,先双写该辅音字母,再加ed

AAA型:read – read – read
ABB型:buy – bought – bought
ABC型:see – saw – seen
动词过去分词怎么记?
1.肯定句: 主语 + was/were + V-ed + (by…)
The car was invented by an engineer.
2.否定句: 主语 + was/were + not + V-ed + (by…)
3.一般疑问句: Was/Were + 主语 + V-ed + (by…)
The car wasn’t invented by an engineer.
Was the car invented by an engineer
特殊疑问句: 疑问词 + was/were + 主语 + V-ed + (by…)

含有动词短语的主动结构变被动结构时,不要漏掉短语中的介词或副词。

被动语态注意事项
We handed in our homework last Friday.
→ Our homework was handed in last Friday (by us).
in不能
去掉。
Tips
在含有使役动词make,let或感官动词(see, watch, notice, hear 等)的主动语态 的句子中,这些词后常跟省略to的动词不定式,但是改为被动语态时则要 把省去的to还原。

→ He was seen to cross the road(by me) yesterday .
My mother made me sweep the floor just now.
→ I was made to sweep the floor (by my mother) just now.
当宾语是双宾语时,可以用物也可以用人来作被动语态的主语,但是当物作主语时,间接宾语(人)前要补上to 或 for.

→ I was given a pencil by my mother.
→ A pencil was given to me by my mother.
pass/give/sell/show/bring/lend sth. to sb.
buy/make/cook/ sth. for sb.
记忆:买回来煮和做用for,其它用to。
不及物动词和词组没有被动语态。
