In China, it’s common to see people on the street using their fans (扇子) in summer. However, the traditional Chinese fan is not just a tool for cooling down, but a 24 of traditional Chinese culture.
The 25 of Chinese fans goes back to the Shang Dynasty (about 1600 B.C~1046 B.C). One of the 26 fans was known as Shanhan. It was a bit like today’s umbrella. In fact, the fan was not used to help people cool down until the Zhou Dynasty. At that time, fans were usually made of birds’ feathers (羽毛). Later, bamboo fans and cattail leaf fans (蒲扇) were 27 during the Han Dynasty. Both were 28 among the common people during the Song Dynasty.
Years later, the folding (折叠的) fan was widely used. 29 this kind of fan could be easily folded and carried, it was soon loved by many people. However, the best thing of a folding fan was the 30 on it. If a famous person painted the fan, it could 31 a lot of money. For example, a folding fan painted by Zhang Daqian was sold for $252,000.
Today, there are more than 500 kinds of fans in China, attracting (吸引) a great number of fan lovers both at home and abroad. As a fan lover, I often spend my 32 time reading about the history of Chinese fans. I feel proud of our culture, 33 when I see foreigners also fall in love with these beautiful tools. I hope that one day I can pass on these skills to the next generation, just like how my ancestors taught 34 to do. I believe this kind of culture will keep our hearts close to our roots, no matter how far we go.

A man had four sons. He wanted his sons not to judge (判断) things too quickly. So he sent them each in turn on a journey to go and look at a pear tree that was far away. He sent the first son in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in the summer, and the youngest in autumn.
When they all came back, he called them together to describe what they had seen.
The first son said that the tree was ugly and weak. The second son said, “No, it was covered with green leaves and full of promise.” The third son disagreed, saying it was filled with flowers that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful, and it was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. The youngest son said it was full of fruit, full of life and achievement.
The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, because they had each seen but one season in the tree’s life. He told them that you cannot determine a tree, or a person, by only one season. He also told them who they are — and the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life — can only be judged at the end, when all the seasons are up.
If you give up when it’s winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the beauty of your summer, the achievement of your autumn. Don’t let the pain of one season destroy the joy of all the rest. Don’t judge life by one difficult season. Hold on through the difficult times and then better times are sure to come.
43.Why did the man send his four sons to look at the pear tree in four seasons
A.Because the man knew the pear tree completely.
B.Because the sons didn’t get on well with each other.
C.Because the sons wanted to enjoy the different sights.

A.The pear tree was only beautiful in summer
B.The four sons were not honest with their father.
C.Difficult times will pass and better times will come.
D.The youngest son was the cleverest of the four brothers.
47.What is the passage mainly about
A.The pear tree had four seasons.
B.The man loved his sons very much.
C.The youngest son is the cleverest man.
D.Don’t judge life by one difficult season.
Short videos have quickly become a daily habit for most teenagers. But behind their enjoyment value lie lots of dangers that can influence your life in unexpected ways.
One major problem is the loss of attention. Short videos are created to catch your attention in seconds. Your brain gets used to this non-stop stimulation (刺激), making it harder to pay attention to tasks that require patience—like reading a textbook, solving math problems, or listening to a teacher’s lesson. Studies show that teens who spend over 2 hours daily on short videos are 3 times more likely to have trouble with lasting attention in class.
Another problem is the weakening (减弱) of critical (批判的) thinking. Most short videos offer simple, one-sided messages instead of encouraging deep thinking. For example, a 10-second clip about “how to be successful” might make hard life skills too simple. When you’re used to getting quick answers, you’ll find it difficult to judge information carefully or form your own opinions.
Wasting time is also a serious problem. The average teen spends 1.5 hours daily on short videos, which adds up to over 500 hours a year. That’s time you could have spent practicing a sport, learning an instrument, or communicating with family. Worse, the “infinite (无限的) scroll” feature makes it easy to forget the time, leaving you tired when you finally put your phone down.
Perhaps the most harmful effect is on confidence. Many short videos show a lot of unrealistic (不切实际的) lifestyles—perfect bodies, expensive tools, and non-stop fun. Comparing your common life to these short pieces can make you feel poor. Scientists believe that heavy users often report feelings of anxiety or worries, especially when they can’t “keep up” with what they see online.
However, short videos aren’t all bad—they can connect you with new ideas or brighten an unlucky day. The key is balance (平衡). Set a time limit, choose materials that teach you something, and remember: what you see on screen is seldom real life. Put activities that help you grow first, and you’ll avoid the hidden dangers.
48.Why do students have trouble with attention in class after watching short videos
A.They feel tired from staying up late.
B.They lose interest in school subjects completely.
C.Their brains get used to strong continuous stimulation.
D.Short videos make them avoid difficult learning tasks.
49.Which of the following is true according to the passage
A.Short videos are popular among all teenagers.
B.All the lifestyles shown in short videos are real.
C.Watching short videos can improve teenagers’ critical thinking.
D.The average teen spends 1.5 hours every day on short videos.
50.In which part of a magazine can we most probably read the passage
A.Fashion. B.Teen Health. C.Sports News. D.School Life.

A.Teenagers should never watch short videos.
B.Teenagers have a new lifestyle on the Internet.
C.Short videos help teenagers learn new ideas quickly.
D.Short videos have dangers but can be used properly with balance.
52.What would be the best structure of the passage
