When the 15th National Games started in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province on November 9th, 2025, its official mascots, “Xiyangyang” and “Lerongrong”, soon became stars on the Internet. They even got the nickname “Dawan Chickens”. This lovely name made the mascots loved by people all over the country.
The mascots are designed based on Chinese white dolphins. These are rare animals that live in the Pearl River Estuary (珠江口) near the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. There are three-colored waves on their heads. The colors respectively stand for Guangdong’s kapok (木棉花) red, Hong Kong’s bauhinia (紫荆花) purple and Macao’s lotus (莲花) green. This shows the unity of the three places. Their round bodies and lively poses made people think of Guangdong’s famous chicken dishes. Since chicken is very important in Cantonese food, this funny nickname came into being. Liu Pingyun, the head of the design team, was happy with this public understanding. He hoped to let more people know the mascots’ meaning.
The mascots are also popular because of their energetic shows. Students from local martial arts (武术) schools dress up as them. Most people have an inner (内心的) voice. What you say to yourself, and how you say it, makes a difference to how you think, feel and behave, so it’s worth paying attention to.
Your inner voice is always with you. You might notice it when you make a mistake, when you try something new, or when you solve a problem. Sometimes it sounds kind but at other times it can sound mean or scared. Young people’s coach Maria Evans says it should be treated with kindness. “It gets scared when you think about doing something that feels hard. Often all it needs is to be listened to and spoken to with love and reassurance.” Your inner voice has an influence on you because you already pay attention to it. So what you say to yourself, and what you hear, sinks in. If you keep telling yourself you can’t do math or you’re not good at making friends or you’re not creative, over time you’ll believe what your inner voice is saying. When you talk to yourself like “I’ve got to tidy my room,” it makes the task feel harder. If instead you say, “I choose to tidy my room, and then I’ll be able to find the books I want easily,” it’s more positive. You’re telling yourself how you’ll get an advantage.
Noticing what your inner voice says and choosing to talk encouragingly to yourself can help you feel more confident. For example, when you get things wrong, tell yourself it’s okay and you’ll learn for next time. Or when you do something challenging, congratulate yourself for being brave and having a try. If you’re not sure what to say, imagine you’re talking to your best friends and trying to support and help them inside your head.
28.Why should you notice your inner voice
A.Because it is always inside your head.
B.Because it helps you try something new and hard.
C.Because it influences your thoughts and behavior.
29.What does the underlined word “reassurance” in Paragraph 2 mean
A.pride. B.comfort. C.joy.
30.What will happen if you keep saying no to yourself
A.You’ll not be creative.
B.You’ll meet math problems.
C.You’ll believe what you say.
31.What’s the best title for this passage
A.Talk Kindly to Yourself.
B.Look Deep inside Yourself.
C.Build Confidence by Yourself.

China has many wetlands. They are special places where water covers the land, including lakes, rivers and marshes (沼泽). They can be big or small, and you might see them near villages or forests. In spring, many baby animals are born here, making wetlands lively. These areas are very important for nature.
Wetlands are home to many animals. Birds like ducks build nests there. Fish lay eggs in the water. Frogs, turtles and even small snakes live in the mud. They also help clean the water and stop floods. Many plants, such as water lilies (睡莲), grow well here too. The plants take in bad things from the water, and their roots hold the soil together. This stops the land from washing away when it rains hard.
But wetlands are in danger. Some people cut down trees there. Others put dirty water into them. Sometimes, wetlands are turned into farms or buildings. Many animals lose their homes because of this.
Luckily, people start to protect wetlands now. They plant more trees and water plants. They stop putting rubbish into the water. Some areas are made into protected parks. Students even help clean the wetlands on weekends.
