Surprisingly, I was accepted into the program. Imagine how I felt!
Up to now, I still feel lucky that I took that step. It is a 31 that I have changed. I did not let my

Only a Ribbon
In one of the London hospitals, a short time ago, there was a young doctor. He noticed one of
the patients, a ten-year-old poor girl called Katie, who had a very painful illness.
Katie lay in her bed, day after day, with nothing to help her forget the pain and cheer up. One day
the doctor noticed her trying to make a doll of her finger, and speaking to it. But she was soon
tired of it, and lay back into her bed.
That afternoon, the young doctor saw a beautiful ribbon in a shop window. He thought that it
might help cheer the little girl up, so he went in and bought it for her. When he handed the ribbon
to the girl, she was too surprised to speak. There were tears in her eyes. This little gift made her
feel rich and happy.
The nurse later told the doctor that the girl played with the ribbon all day long. She twisted (盘
绕) it round her head. She held it in her hand while she slept.
Some weeks later, Katie’s illness became worse, and it was necessary to perform a dangerous
operation. When Katie was brought into the operation room, she cried out for the young doctor.
He was brought, and he held one of the girl’s hands, while the other tightly held the ribbon.
During the operation, the ribbon fell off Katie’s hand. As soon as she woke up and opened her
eyes, she looked at her friend and said in a low voice, “My ribbon.” The doctor gave it to her and
she smiled happily.
It was only a little gift, but it made the girl’s stay in the hospital bright with beauty and love.

D. he wanted to make Katie feel happy
36.What did Katie do when she was brought into the operation room
A. She looked for her ribbon
B. She smiled happily at the doctors
C. She ran out of the operation room.

37.What does the story mainly tell us
A. Doctors are kind people.
B. Gifts are important for patients.
C. A little gift can bring great happiness.
D. Hospitals are places with beauty and love.
C
We can’t control everything that happens to us. We can’t control where our families came from,
how much we will pay for school next fall, or how others might treat us. But there is one thing we
can control: how we respond (回应) to what happens to us. And that is what counts! This is why
we need to stop worrying about things we can’t control and start worrying about things we can.
Look at the picture. The inner circle is our circle of control. It includes things we have control
over—ourselves, our personality, our choices, and our response to whatever happens to us.
Outside the circle of control is the circle of no control. It includes the thousands of things we can’t
do anything about.
Now, what will happen if we spend our time and energy worrying about things we can’t control,
like a rude comment, a past mistake, or the fact that it’s raining on a good hair day You guessed it.
We’ll feel even more out of control, as if we were hurt. For example, if your sister is angry with
you and you’re always complaining about her weakness, that won’t do anything to fix the problem.
It’ll only cause you to blame your problems on her and lose power yourself. Don’t listen to the
rude comment, avoid making the mistake next time, and get an umbrella for the rain. You are the
star of your own life. Focus on what you can influence.
Renatha told me a story that explains this point. A week before her upcoming volleyball game,
she learned that the mother of a player on the other team had made fun of Renatha’s volleyball
skills. Instead of paying no attention to the comments, Renatha became angry and spent the rest of
the week thinking about it. When the game arrived, her only goal was to show to this woman that
she was a good player. To make a long story short, Renatha played poorly, spent much of her time
on the bench, and her team lost the game. She was so focused on something she couldn’t control
that she lost control to the only thing she could control—herself.
Proactive (积极的 )people focus on the things they can control.By doing so they experience
inner peace and are primed for whatever comes their way. They learn to live with the many things
they can’t do anything about, even to smile and laugh about them. They may not like them, but
they know it’s no use worrying.
38.Why did Renatha play poorly
A. Because she was thinking about her mistakes.
B. Because she was made fun of during the match.
C. Because she was offered after the hard training.
D. Because she cared too much about others’ comments.
39.What does the underlined part “are smart for” probably mean in the last paragraph
A. care for B. wait for C. are ready for D. are sorry for
40.What is probably the best title of the passage
A. Out of Control, out of Date
B. We Can Control Only One Thing
C. The Circle of No Control
D. We Must Learn How to Control
D
Mindfulness Matters
In recent years, some schools have begun to introduce meditation(冥想 ), or mindfulness
training , into their classrooms. During mindfulness training, students may be asked to sit quietly
and observe their own thoughts and feelings to avoid being controlled by them. Mindfulness
training can help students overcome anxiety, control their behavior, and improve their ability to
pay attention in class. Students are expected to learn how to meditate in order to reduce stress and
do better in their schoolwork.
Among schools that already teach meditation, the results have been positive. In one study,
teachers reported that after five weeks of mindfulness practice, their students were more focused.
They also participated more fully in class. A middle school in San Francisco reported that a
student meditation program led to higher attendance rates and better grades. Another study
suggested that meditation helped students perform better on tests by improving their working
memory and reducing their anxiety.
Many supports believe that meditation can also help students overcome anxiety. For
example,Headstand is a mindfulness education program designed to help students overcome
anxiety.A study concluded that ninety-eight percent of participating students felt less stressed after
they completed the Headstand program. In another study, researchers in New Haven, Connecticut,
followed students who participated in meditation and yoga classes three times a week. They found
that after each class, participants had lower levels of cortisol,a stress hormone(激素),in their
bodies.
Despite the positive results seen so far, critics also point out that much of the current research is
not rigorous (严谨的 ) enough. Associate Professor Tamar Mendelson agrees that research on
meditation in children is still in its early stages. However, even she insists that she has seen the
positive impact of meditation on children. Others express worries that meditation is not a valuable
use of class time. But many disagree. Denise Pope, a professor from the Stanford University, says,
“This is something teachers can do immediately. You get a lot of bang for your buck and anyone
who is against it isn’t thinking clearly.” Indeed, additional studies will surely strengthen our
understanding of the benefits of mindfulness.
Although still in its early stages, research shows that meditation can help students. Meditation
should be a part of every student’s school day. Participating in “stillness” can be just as productive
as other school-related activities.
41.Why do some schools introduce mindfulness training into classes
A. To control students’ working memory.
B. To reduce students’ stress and anxiety.
C. To increase students’ attendance rates.
D. To research students’ thoughts and feelings.
42.What can we learn from the passage
A. Mindfulness training is not a valuable use of class time at school.
B. Mindfulness training is more productive than other school activities.
C. Students felt more stressed after joining yoga classes three times a week.
D. Students paid closer attention in class after weeks of mindfulness practice.
43.What is the writer’s main purpose of writing the passage
A. To explain why students suffer from anxiety and stress.
B. To introduce the results of a study on mindfulness training.
C. To show different opinions on introducing meditation into classrooms.
D. To advise that mindfulness should be part of students’ school life.
44.The writer probably agrees that ______.
A. further studies will prove the benefits of mindfulness training
B. students will become more talented with mindfulness training
C. doctors will do researches on the spread of mindfulness training
D. mindfulness training decides students’ mental and physical health
七、阅读表达(共 10 分,45—47 题每题 2 分,48 题 4 分)
阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
You may sometimes notice athletes with purple circles on their skin from cupping. Or maybe
you know someone who swears (极其信赖 ) acupuncture for their back pain. More and more
people use practices from traditional Chinese medicine like these not only to fight disease, but also
to prevent it.
Western medicine tends to view the body a lot like a car. It has different systems that work
separately. Western medicine focuses on treating disease. But TCM looks at your entire well-being.
TCM is based on balance, harmony, and energy. There are two central ideas behind TCM. One
is qi, the other is yin and yang. Qi is also called life energy or vital energy. The belief is that it
runs throughout your body. It’s always on the move and continually changes. TCM treatments
often focus on ways to promote and maintain the flow of qi.
Yin and Yang are opposites that describe the qualities of life. The belief is that everything in life
has a little bit of its opposite, too, and balance is the key. For example, a drug from your doctor
might cure disease. But it’s dangerous if you take too much of it.
According to TCM, these ideas play out in our bodies. When you balance the yin and yang of qi,
you feel healthy and well. If they’re in disorder, you feel sick. TCM aims to create harmony and a
healthy flow of qi.
Experts believe it’s safe if you go to someone who knows what they are doing. This is
especially true of acupuncture, ai chi, and cupping. With a little background on how it is used, I
believe you can make wiser choices to improve your health.
45.Why do more and more people use practices from traditional Chinese medicine
46.What is TCM based on
47.When do you feel healthy and well according to TCM
48.What do you think of TCM Why (At least 2 reasons.)
