过去进行时的用法：
表示过去某一时刻或某一段时间正在进行的动作 (at）
表示一个动作发生时，另一个过去的动作正在进行(when)
表示两个过去的动作同时进行，这时可用while连接
过去进行时多用在叙事类文本中，起到提供背景和渲染氛围的作用，制造身临其境的效果。
过去进行时常见时间状语：
过去的某个时间：at 9 o'clock last night;
at that time
when引导的时间状语从句：when I saw it
while引导的时间状语从句： while she was sleeping ...
句型转化：
肯定句：主语 + was/were + doing +其他
否定句：主语 + was/were + not + doing +其他
一般疑问句：Was/Were + 主语 + doing + 其他
特殊疑问句：疑问词 + was/were + 主语 + doing +其他

用于过去进行时和一般过去时的动词分别有什么特点？
用于过去进行时的动词多是延续性动词；用于一般过去时的动词多为表示短暂动作的动词。
延续性动词和非延续性动词
延续性动词指动作可以延续一段时间，而不是瞬间结束。
如：work、study、drink、eat等。
非延续性动词指动作极为短暂，瞬间结束。
如：start、begin、hit、jump、knock等。
