A Stray Cat on Campus: Caution passion
Recently, a stray cat on campus has sparked a heated debate. Some argue that it should be driven away, as the
cat often wanders into classrooms, disrupting lessons and posing a risk of scratching students. However, others
believe that providing the cat with a shelter and offering care to the vulnerable reflect our humanity and help
cultivate students’ empathy.
Personally, I support the second view. Instead of expelling the cat, we can create a designated area for it,
keeping it away from teaching buildings while ensuring its basic needs are met. Additionally, regular health checks
by volunteers would reduce potential risks. This way, we can balance care for the cat with campus safety.

Suddenly, a loud alarm rang through the house. Gabriel’s gas detection robot had sensed the leak and sprung
into action. The shrill sound jolted his mother from her TV reverie, her heart pounding as she realized the danger
they were in. Quickly, she rushed to the kitchen, turned off the gas, and opened all the windows to let the fresh air
disperse the dangerous fumes. As the alarm ceased, she stood there, breathing a sigh of relief, suddenly
understanding the significance of Gabriel’s invention. It wasn’t just a toy or a useless machine; it was a lifesaver.
Gabriel’s mother held the robot gently in her arms, waiting for Gabriel to get back from school. She couldn’t
wait to tell him how his creation had prevented a potential tragedy. When Gabriel finally walked through the door,
his mother greeted him with tears in her eyes and a smile on her face. “Gabriel, you were right,” she said, hugging
him tightly. “This robot isn’t just a hobby; it’s something that can protect us, make our lives safer. I’m sorry I didn’
t see it before.” Gabriel’s heart swelled with pride and joy. From that day on, his mother became his biggest
supporter, encouraging him to pursue his passion for robotics and recognizing the value of his inventions in making
the world a better, safer place.

Text 10 (第 20题为推断题)
M: Good morning, my dear teachers and classmates! It’s my turn to introduce my hometown. It’s the beautiful state
of Carinthia, the heart of southern Austria. Carinthia has breathtaking landscapes and a rich cultural heritage.
Our state is known for its bathing lakes. There are seven lakes with drinking-quality water in the
easternmost part of Carinthia. The bathing season starts in May, when the lakes become the centers of water
activities: swimming, boating and fishing. Beyond the lakes, the Alps provide opportunities for skiing, hiking and
exploring some fantastic mountain scenery in Europe. The Hohe Tauern National Park, which stretches
across three states, is perfect for nature enthusiasts and adventurers alike.
Our charming towns and villages are home to a rich cultural heritage, from the historic streets of Klagenfurt to the
town of Villach. The local festivals, traditional music and delicious cuisine, such as Carinthian dumplings, reflect
the warmth and hospitality of our people.
Thank you for letting me share a bit of my hometown with you. I hope you’ll have the chance to experience all that
Carinthia offers and see for yourself why it’s so special.参照秘密级管理★启用前 试卷类型:A

Paris is a city full of sites of different times and architectural styles. Here are some of these famous spots that
are essential to understand the city’s complicated past.
Eiffel Tower
Presented as part of the 1889 World Exposition in Paris, the Eiffel Tower has become the city’s most famous
attraction. It can be reached on Line 6 or Line 8 of the Paris Metro by Bir-Hakeim or Trocadéro stations. If possible,

The Forbidden City is well known for being full of cultural and historical Chinese relics. But Masters in the
Forbidden City does not just focus on the stories of the past.
Instead, the documentary movie, which came out on CCTV-9, focuses on ordinary people — the restorers of
relics and antiques.
The stories are told at a slow and relaxing pace, reflecting the restorers’ work. Restoration of cultural relics
and antiques can be time-consuming, and sometimes boring. Yet these restorers’ patience and peace of mind are
especially precious in a society where everything is changing so fast.
“If you choose this job, you have to stand hours of work sitting on a chair. You need to be quiet and get used
to being quiet,” says Wang Jin, an ancient clock repair expert.
A touching part of the documentary is the spirit of craftsmanship (手艺 ) in the restorers. “Years of routine
work requires not only skill, but also faith and spirit,” China Daily commented. “Looking for precision and
perfection, devoting yourself to work, patience, endurance... all these qualities come from the craftsman spirit.”
But unlike the popular idea of serious experts who sit around being serious, the documentary shows the
enthusiasm of the restorers. They play the guitar and make jokes about each other after a long day of restoration
work.
One scene that has been very popular with Internet users features a young female restorer riding a bicycle
through the empty Forbidden City on a Monday. While she is doing this, a narrator says, “The last person to do this
was Puyi, the last emperor of the Qing Dynasty.”
Masters in the Forbidden City tells us that many people’s ideas about antique restorers are wrong, allowing
them to realize that the restorers are not dull, old professors, but people in their 40s, 30s and even 20s who can be
quite pleasing to the eye.
24. According to the passage, what’s the main purpose of the documentary Masters in the Forbidden City
A. To show people how antiques are restored.
B. To display relics seldom seen by ordinary people.
C. To draw attention to Chinese antique restorers.
D. To praise the craftsmanship of Chinese antique restorers.
25. What can we learn from what Wang Jin says in paragraph 4
A. He often gets tired of his work.
B. Antique restorers need to be patient and peaceful.
C. There is no need to do restoration work fast.
D. It takes years of hard work to adapt to antique restoration.
26. Which word best describes the restorers of relics and antiques
A. Dull. B. Humorous. C. Enthusiastic. D. Ordinary.
27. What is the purpose of the bicycle-riding scene in the documentary
A. To encourage the young to consider a career in antique restoration.
B. To show the strange hobbies of young antique restorers.
C. To remind the audience of the last emperor of the Qing Dynasty.
D. To show the different image of antique restorers.
C
Israel was accused of using white phosphorus bombs (白磷弹), a banned bomb, in the Palestine-Israel conflict
in October. However, the Israeli military later claimed in a statement that it didn’t use such a weapon, reported
Reuters.
White phosphorus is a highly free burning chemical that can create intense heat, light and smoke, reaching
over 1,000°C when burned. The flame it produces is difficult to put out, leading to deadly burns on the human body.
The chemical is also poisonous. Those coming into contact with it may suffer heart, kidney or bone damage.
And bomb-hit areas are likely to be polluted by white phosphorus, resulting in long-term environmental damage.
This news sparked public concern about destructive weapons. International Humanitarian Law (IHL) bans any
weapon “of a nature to cause overmuch injury or unnecessary suffering”. Such a weapon can cause indiscriminate
harm, injuring or killing soldiers as well as civilians.
The Geneva Conventions (《日内瓦公约》 ) and their Additional Protocols, which form the core of
international humanitarian law, have set requirements for all countries to follow about how wars are carried out.
For example, the use, production, stockpiling (储备) or selling of biological and chemical weapons are forbidden.
Chemical weapons, such as mustard gas, are poisonous. They can cause temporary or permanent damage to
people and have various effects, such as severe eye pain, breathing difficulty, and blistering (起水泡) of the skin.
Biological weapons, usually developed from viruses or bacteria, attack the human immune system, often with
deadly consequences.
Other international conventions also have made related rules, which apply to the countries that have agreed to
them. For example, according to the IHL database, any actions expected to result in widespread, long-lasting
destruction of the environment are prohibited.
“During the Vietnam War, the US military employed a highly effective defoliant (落叶剂 ) called Agent
Orange,” Zhang Gaosheng, a researcher at China Institute of International Studies, told CCTV News. “This
resulted in the destruction of about 20 percent of Vietnam’s forests, leading to significant damage to the ecosystem.”
The usage of the chemical was subsequently banned, he added.
28. What is the primary concern regarding the use of white phosphorus bombs in wars
A. The intense heat and light produced.
B. The difficulty in putting out the flame.
C. The damage to buildings and infrastructure.
D. The harm to people and the environment.
29. What does paragraph 6 mainly talk about
A. The development of biochemical weapons.
B. The long-lasting impact of biochemical weapons.
C. The results of using biochemical weapons.
D. The urgency of prohibiting biochemical weapons.
30. What is the attitude from Zhang Gaosheng to the usage of defoliant
A. Opposed. B. Favorable. C. Indifferent. D. Approving.
31. What’s the purpose of the passage
A. To call on public not to use weapons.
B. To give the reasons why some weapons are being stopped.
C. To appeal for peace between Palestine and Israel.
D. To introduce the chemical weapons used in the Israeli military.
D
In the crystal-clear waters near Talamone, Italy, an extraordinary sight awaits beneath the Mediterranean Sea’s
surface. Mermaids, towering giants and enormous sculptural eyes gaze upward from the ocean floor, creating an
otherworldly underwater gallery that serves a crucial environmental purpose. This unique initiative represents one
innovative fisherman’s determined effort to protect vital fishing grounds from the disastrous impact of commercial
fishing nets that threaten marine ecosystems.
The underwater sculpture garden operates on a simple yet effective principle that strategically placed artistic
installations (安装工程 ) work alongside concrete blocks to physically obstruct and break the fishing nets that
destroy marine life. These massive fishing nets, dragged across the seafloor by commercial vessels, destroy delicate
underwater habitats and deplete fish populations that local fishing communities depend upon for their livelihood.
The project has evolved beyond its initial conservation goals to become a cooperative effort involving local
educational institutions and young artists. Students from a high school in nearby Grosseto have actively
participated in the initiative, creating specialized sculptural works designed to serve two purposes. These
student-crafted pieces not only contribute to the anti-fishing barrier system but also provide alternative habitats for
marine creatures. By offering the marine species a safe shelter within the sculptural installations, the project helps
reduce their vulnerability (脆弱性) to illegal fishing practices while supporting natural population recovery.
The fisherman behind the initiative recognized that traditional regulatory approaches alone were not enough to
fulfill the environmental commitment. And the sculptures themselves have captured international attention while
serving practical conservation purposes. Each piece sunk to the Mediterranean floor contributes to a growing
underwater museum that tells the story of local efforts to preserve marine biodiversity.
As the sculpture garden continues to expand, it serves as an inspiring example of how art and environmental
protection can work together to create lasting positive change in marine ecosystems.
32. What is the purpose of the underwater sculptures
A. To promote local fishing industry. B. To protect underwater ecosystems.
C. To raise environmental awareness. D. To create an attractive artistic gallery.
33. What does the underlined word “deplete” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Carefully manage. B. Significantly reduce. C. Gradually relocate. D. Successfully protect.
34. What can we learn about the project in paragraph 3
A. The project has expanded into a community-based initiative.
B. The project calls for more support from students and artists.
C. The sculptures have managed to stop practices of illegal fishing.
D. The sculptures show superior artistic skills of the young participants.
35. What is the best title for the passage
A. Art in the depths: A New Fashion in Italy
B. From Gallery to Fishery: The Power of Students
C. Sculpting a Shield: Art Meets Conservation
D. Guarding the Deep: Traditional Ways of Protection

by traditional media 62 an active role, choosing what information to receive, how, and when. The
information recipients even decide whether or not they want to stay informed.
Today, you can use the Internet to access libraries, art galleries, news archives, and other information sources
from anywhere in the world: I believe this is a key advantage in the education field. The web is a(n) 63
(amaze) resource for enhancing the process of building knowledge.
Besides its communicative purposes, the Internet 64 (become) an important tool for exchanging
knowledge and education since it entered our lives; it is not just an information source, but a channel for connecting
other people and groups 65 are working on related research topics.

Gabriel had always been fascinated by robots. His mother, however, did not think much of it. She often
criticized him, urging him to focus on his schoolwork instead of those “useless machines”, as she called them. She
wanted him to spend more time on his books, and less time lost in the world of robotics. He, however, always
worked quietly on parts, trying to create inventions that could solve everyday problems.
One day, Gabriel came back from school, bursting through the front door, holding a shining award in his hand.
The gas detection robot he had built for months had just won first place in the regional competition. His heart raced
as he imagined his mother would be proud this time.
“Mom! Look! I won!” he cried. His mother, standing at the kitchen counter, looked briefly. She sighed, “That’
s nice, Gabriel, but I still don’t see what good it will do you. It’s not going to help you with your grades or get you
into college. You need to focus on something more practical.” Her voice showed no interest. Gabriel remained
quiet, determined to prove that what he was doing had value.
One evening, as the delicious smell of dinner floated through the house, an unexpected danger was quietly
closing. Gabriel’s mother had been busy in the kitchen but had forgotten to turn off the gas. Unaware of the coming
threat, she had wandered into the living room, settling down comfortably in front of the TV. The gas continued to
escape, silently filling the air. The house was on the edge of a disaster.
