M: When does the presentation begin
W: Well, it’s scheduled to start at 5:00, but I want to leave at 4:00 to get there early to welcome
the guests.
M: Why don’t you leave at 3:30 before traffic gets worse, then
Text 3
W: Hi, Peter. Fancy hearing your voice! How are you
M: Couldn’t be better. I’m planning a trip to Memphis with my family this summer.
W: Great! I’d love to host you here. When are you coming
M: We’ll leave Boston on June 20th, stay in St. Louis, Missouri for a week, and then fly to your
city.

W: Morning I will be home at that time. But if I'm not at home, you can put the goods in the
garage.
M: No problem. And where do you live
W: I live on 55th Green Street, Toronto.
M: OK. I have taken all the information down.

W: Really How
M: They use body language to show which direction the food is in, how far away it is, and how
much food is available.

Text 9
M: We found out halfway through the school year that we needed to do two weeks’ work
experience during the summer. Our teachers said that it’d be a good way for us to see what it was
like to have a job and to get an idea of what we want to study at university. At first, I was a little
angry when I found out that I’d be working for free! However, our teacher explained that because
it was a school project, the companies wouldn’t be allowed to pay wages. The important thing was
what we’d get out of the experience. So, I decided that I’d try to find something I really wanted to
do. A friend of my dad’s works for a TV and film production studio, so I gave him a call and
asked if there was any chance of getting my work experience there. I was shocked when he said
yes! There was a new movie which being filmed at a studio not far from me, and they were happy
to have some help.
Text 10
W: Welcome to the New Word Explanation. This time we’ll introduce the words flash mobs. A
flash mob can be described as a gathering of a large number of people who don’t know each other,
who get organised in secret by email or text messaging, and meet together for no special reason, to
do something unusual. People who have attended several flash mobs say they do this just for fun.
The first flash mob happened in June 2003, when about 100 people suddenly appeared in a carpet
store in New York, and all began to ask the shop assistant about the prices and kinds of goods at
the same time. As you can imagine, the shop assistant answered with surprise and confusion. Ten
minutes later, the crowd left as quickly and quietly as they had arrived. One of the most famous
was in April 2006 in London. At various London underground stations, people gathered at a set
time and began dancing to music. It was reported that over 4,000 people took part at London
Victoria station.
