School Year Meals Programs
Schools are a great resource for families who are having trouble making ends meet. Food banks and schools work together to help kids have free or low-cost meals and groceries to share with their families. Here are a few meal programs you may find at your local school or in your community.
School Pantry (食品贮藏室) Program: Pantries located at neighborhood schools or other convenient sites in the community give families easy access to the food they need. Depending on the school, the pantry may be open during specific days and times, including after school.
BackPack Program: Schools provide kids and their families with backpacks of delicious and easy-to-prepare food for the weekend. Kids usually pick up their backpacks from teachers or other school staff on Fridays or before school breaks.
Kids Cafe: These after-school programs at school and community organizations provide free snacks or meals as well as fun activities and tutoring for kids.
Summer Meal Programs: Even when school is out, kids can find free meals in their communities. Free summer meals are available at many churches, schools, libraries, and community centers for kids and teens.
Here are some easy ways to find your nearest free meal site.
Check with your school or school district: Reach out to your local school or district to learn about if and how they are providing free meals for students.
Text: You can find meal programs near you by texting the word FOOD to 304-304,thanks to our friends at No Kid Hungry. You' ll get a message with nearby locations. Data and message rates may apply.

For many students in special education programs, school spirit and typical extracurricular experiences can look very different. There are no team sweaters, no cheerleading uniforms, and often fewer opportunities to take part in activities many students enjoy. That reality stayed with Wes Massey, a special education teacher in Georgia—— and he decided to do something about it.
“A lot of our kids don’ t get to participate in things like basketball or cheerleading,”Massey explained.“I want these kids to enjoy what other kids would enjoy,” he added. With the help of volunteers and donations, Massey surprised 31 students in the state's alternate assessment program—— and their families—— with something many had never experienced before:their first overnight trip.
The destination was Great Wolf Lodge in LaGrange, Georgia, and families didn't have to pay a single dollar. Transportation, meals, lodging, and activities were all fully covered.Planning the trip required extensive coordination. Multiple buses and support vehicles were arranged to accommodate students with complex medical needs, including those requiring oxygen or feeding tubes.
When families arrived, the surprises continued. Each student received gift cards at check-in, giving them the chance to make choices independently—— including buying their own lunches. Students and families also enjoyed activities that many were experiencing for the very first time, like family putt-putt golf and other interactive games at the resort.
Support for the trip extended beyond the school system. As the buses traveled, the county sheriff(警长) personally escorted(护送) them, which fully demonstrated the entire community's full support for these students.
For Massey, the message was simple but powerful.“I know life has been hard and there have been challenges,” he said.“But we are going to do everything we can to make sure you' re included, you' re important, and that you matter.”
24. What can we know about special education students
A. They perform poorly in study.
B. They lack typical school activities.
C. They refuse to wear team uniforms.
D. They dislike extracurricular activities.
25. What did Massey want to achieve through this trip
A. Gaining experience in guiding students.
B. Promoting Great Wolf Lodge to families.
C. Providing equal enjoyment for his students.
D. Winning recognition from the school board.
26. Which can best replace the underlined word“coordination” in paragraph 3
A. Organization. B. Separation. C. Competition. D. Ambition.
27. Which of the following can best describe Massey
A. Wise and courageous. B. Creative and ambitious.
C. Sincere and talented. D. Considerate and responsible.

The decline of lions and pandas often captures global attention, but a quieter and potentially more damaging crisis is unfolding among small mammals. These tiny animals are disappearing at alarming rates, and their loss can have outsized consequences for biodiversity.Small mammals are powerful indicators of environmental health, yet tracking them has long been a challenge because many species occupy different ecological roles while looking almost exactly alike.
This challenge is illustrated by the two species used to test a new footprint technique:Bushveld sengis(象鼩) and Eastern Rock sengis. Although they appear nearly the same, they live in different habitats and face different environmental pressures. While the two sengi species look alike, their feet are not exactly the same. Tiny differences in foot shape leave distinct patterns in the footprints they make.
Researchers have now developed a new way to identify and monitor these animals by analyzing their footprints. The research team from Duke University's Nicholas School of theEnvironment focused on capturing and analyzing these differences, training a computer model to recognize which footprints belonged to which species. By treating footprint identification like a digital tracking problem, the scientists aimed to replace invasive(侵入的) and expensive monitoring methods with a faster and more practical alternative.
High-resolution images of the footprints were analyzed by using special software that measured shape and size characteristics. From this analysis, nine key footprint features were selected and tested against previously unseen images and sets of tracks. Across all trials, the system correctly identified the species 94 percent to 96 percent of the time.
The results show that footprint analysis can offer a simple, affordable, and non-invasive way to confirm species presence and track changes in population size and geographic range. The research team plans to expand the approach to other species by training new models with additional datasets. They also hope to compare footprint analysis with other non-invasive monitoring techniques to see how different tools can work together.
28. Why does the author mention lions and pandas at the beginning
A. To criticize the public's preference for large animals.
B. To show the ignorance of small mammals' conservation.
C. To compare the living habits of different animal species.
D. To highlight the importance of large mammals research.
29. What can be inferred about Eastern Rock sengis and Bushveld sengis
A. They live in the same habitats. B. They belong to the same species.
C. They need conserving differently. D. They have developed similar habits.
30. What does the author imply about traditional monitoring methods
A. They are too complex to operate.
B. They distinguish different species well.
C. They will be replaced by digital ways.
D. They may disturb the tracked animals.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. The Ignored Decline Crisis of Small Mammals
B. Effective Ways to Distinguish Similar Small Mammals
C. Challenges in Tracking Environmentally Critical Species
D. A Novel Footprint Method for Tracking Small Mammals

A Chinese company says it has rolled out the world's first fully recyclable carbon fiber wind turbine blade(涡轮叶片), a development that could bring the wind industry closer to a carbon-neutral, waste-free future. The 110-meter blade is made of recyclable carbon fiber panels that are both strong and lightweight, and the carbon fiber can be completely recovered and reused.
One 2017 study estimates that the world will face 43 million tonnes of wind turbine blade waste by 2050. While scientists are working to develop better recycling processes, it's still a lot of waste to tackle for an energy technology the world will need to rely on in the future—— we need better solutions like this.
Conventional wind turbine blades are currently difficult to recycle because their resin(树脂) and fiber makeup are permanently bonded when they' re manufactured. The new blade, the MySE23X, is more than 110 meters (about 361 feet) long and is designed to be recycled at the end of its life, tackling one of wind energy's growing waste problems as turbines become larger and more powerful.
Wind turbine blades have long been a recycling headache, since most are made from composite materials that are hard to break down. The company says its new carbon fiber blade can be chemically separated using a special degradation solution that works at room temperature and pressure. The company says this allows the composite materials to be efficiently broken apart and fully recycled.
The company isn't the only turbine maker working on recyclable blades. A German company already manufactures its recyclable blade, which is about 95% recyclable. TheGerman company aims to make its blades fully recyclable by 2040. As wind turbines continue
to scale up, solutions like this could play a growing role in cutting waste and pushing the industry toward a more circular supply chain.
32. Why is MySE23X blade a revolution
A. It's the longest blade ever produced.
B. It costs less than conventional blades.
C. It can be fully recycled and reused.
D. It generates more power than previous models.
33. What does the author say about the wind turbine blade waste problem
A. Current technology alone is insufficient to tackle the massive waste.
B. It remains uncertain whether recycling solutions will work.
C. It has been ignored by most turbine manufacturers.
D. It has been completely solved by MySE23X blade.
34. What can we know about the German company
A. It produces the most powerful blade worldwide.
B. It aims to achieve full recyclability.
C. It uses the same degradation technology.
D. It significantly reduces the production cost.
35. What is the main idea of the text
A. A breakthrough in wind turbine blade technology.
B. The environmental impact of traditional wind turbines.
C. The development of wind turbine blade technology.
D. The global competition in wind energy production.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
I did not start a daily gratitude jar because life was going great. I started it because my mind felt heavy, cluttered, and constantly focused on what was missing. Even when good things happened, they slipped by unnoticed.
I wanted something simple that did not require deep reflection or perfect words. 36 Each day, I wrote down one thing I felt grateful for and placed it in a jar. That was it. There was no obligation to be profound. No forcing positivity. Over the next 30 days, something quiet began to shift. My outlook softened. My thinking slowed down. This practice did not change my circumstances, but it changed how my mind experienced them.
37 It is a simple container where you place short notes about things you feel grateful for each day. No long entries. There are no restrictions on the depth or significance of your entries. That simplicity is why I chose it.
Traditional journaling felt like too much. I would overthink what to write or skip days entirely when my energy was low. 38 One sentence was enough. Sometimes just a phrase. What mattered was the act of noticing, not the wording.
This practice works because it meets the brain where it is. Small actions are easier to repeat. 39 And consistency is what allows subtle mental shifts to build over time without feeling forced or overwhelming. I kept the process intentionally simple so I would not talk myself out of it.
With repetition, this practice began shifting my emotional baseline. I felt calmer without trying to calm down. My nervous system stayed regulated longer during stressful moments.Over time, my mind became less reactive and more flexible. 40
A. Repetition creates consistency.
B. Gratitude is not just an emotional idea.
C. The gratitude jar removed that pressure.
D. A gratitude jar is exactly what it sounds like.
E. Over time, my mind began scanning the day differently.
F. Life did not become easier, but my ability to handle it clearly improved.
G. I was seeking a small daily action that I could commit to without any resistance.

The latest discoveries in Central China's Henan Province are filling critical gaps in understanding of the role that East Asia played in human evolution during a crucial period of the Paleolithic(旧石器时代的) era, 56 (reveal) how ancient residents adapted to the constantly changing environment.
Studies on the 2,601 stone artifacts unearthed from the newly excavated Xigou Site inNanyang, Henan, dating back 160,000 to 72,000 years, reveal 57 (system) strategies for making small stone flakes (薄片) and the earliest known evidence of tool-handling technologies in East Asia. The findings challenge the long-held view that East Asia was less inventive and adaptable 58 its counterparts elsewhere between 300,000 and 50,000 years ago.
Researchers note that during this period, East Asia 59 (experience) significant climate changes and ancient humans seemed to adapt to the environment by developing diverse stone tool technologies.
More 60 (important), researchers discovered some stone tools had been processed with handles attached, marking 61 earliest known evidence of composite tools in EastAsia. These tools combined stone components with handles, and demonstrated complex planning, skilled craftsmanship, and an understanding of how 62 (enhance) tool performance.
In recent years, evidence 63 (link) to complex human activities has been uncovered from many Paleolithic sites in China, including the Linging Site in Xuchang, Henan, 64 researchers have documented discoid technology, bone tool production and the use of ocher.

However,I was so lost in the joy of getting my driver's license and being about to drive to school independently that I didn't take my father's words seriously. Inatead, I replied lightly、" Don't worry, Dad! Inflating the car tires wouldn't be nocesnary and I don't think it would be a difficult task.”
That particular Tuesday morning, however, would teach me a valuable lesson. It was a particularly cloudy morning, and I was on my way to school. The sky was a thick blanket of dark clouds, and rain was pouring down in sheets, As I was driving, the“low tire pressure”light suddenly flashed on the dashboard.
Panic instantly gripped my heart, At that moment, I deeply regretted not having listened to my father and not having learned about the process of inflating the car tires in advance. My mind started racing with questions: How do I figure out how much air is already in the tires How much do I need to add How do I even set up the air-pumping (抽气的) machine
I pulled into the gas station, my hands trembling slightly on the steering wheel. There was a car behind me. The driver, a middle-aged man, was waiting patiently to fill up his tires. It was around 8 a. m., a busy time when most people were rushing to get to work. Ifelt a sense of guilt for holding him up.

M: Today, I want to share with you the history of coffee. Before that, I'd like to give my thanks to Professor Lee. I talked with many people who are in the coffee business and therefore got a lot of free coffee. Alright, enough joking. There is evidence that coffee originally grew in the northeast of Africa. In the beginning of the sixteenth century, people in the Middle East started to use it as a drink. Also, the physicians in the Turkish city ofConstantinople believed coffee was healthy and approved its use as a medicine. Last week, our school held an environmental creative design competition to raise students’ awareness of environmental protection. Students were required to create useful items using recycled materials like plastic bottles, old newspapers, and cardboard boxes.
The event attracted over 300 participants from all grades. A diverse series of creative works was on display. Winners received eco-friendly prizes such as bamboo notebooks and reusable water bottles.
The competition received an overwhelmingly positive response. Students spoke highly of its educational significance, stating that it not only broadened their knowledge but also inspired them to take concrete actions to contribute to a greener and more sustainable future.

To my surprise, the man shook his head kindly.“Don't worry about it, young lady. Here, let me show you,” he said, walking toward me without hesitation. I looked at him in disbelief. The rain was now pouring, and I noticed he wasn't wearing any rain protection—— yet he stood there helping me, completely soaked. He just waved his hand, got back into his car and drove off, leaving me standing there in the rain, feeling overwhelmed by his kindness. From that day on, every time I fill up my tires with air, I think about that kind stranger. His act of kindness may have seemed small to him, but it had a huge impact on me.
