At Broken Hill High School, my Year 9 science class’s crop reports read like death notices, “Tomato plant grew. Then died.” 15 identical reports, lacking in curiosity. “Why bother ” Julia kicked dust over her dying young plants, “Google’s got answers.”
I realized something was wrong. So I replaced textbooks with tools. “Forget reports. Tend your plot daily — then journal whatever you notice.” No grading rules, no grades. Just earth — covered notebooks. For two weeks, 28 skeptical (持怀疑态度的) teens watered and weeded at the 40℃ heat.
Then came Julia’s entry, “The cracks in the soil aren’t just dry — they’re thirsty mouths begging. When I pour water, they swallow. Yesterday, an ant drowned in one. Felt like a crime.” “Drama queen,” Carlos rolled his eyes. But the next morning, he was bending by his beans, writing “Roots are secret miners. They drill for gold we can’t see.” By harvest month, their journals were filled with sentences like those.
“Let’s make a book,” proposed Julia. Using biology lab microscopes, students photographed tiny insects on cabbages. Art class carved lino prints (油毡版画) of root systems. We crowd — funded printing for “Dirt Diaries — True Tales from the School Plot”. My “scientists” sold 200 copies in three hours. Profits went to local farmers.
But the true harvest came when Julia handed a copy of “Dirt Diaries” to our librarian. She showed him the “Your Turn” section, which read, “Plant a seed (any seed). When it comes up, write what it whispers. Pass this book on.”
Her tomato death notice now reads, “Bye ‘Big Red’ — victim of my ambition (3kg overfed fertilizer). Lesson: More love ≠ more growth. Humans too.”
24.What was the original problem with the students’ crop reports
A.They showed no personal real interest.
B.They failed to follow the required format.
C.They contained too many scientific terms.
D.They lacked sufficient detail and personal reflection.

A.Introducing a strict grading system.

C.Organizing a competition among different plots.
D.Focusing on daily observation and free recording.
26.What is the main function of paragraph 3 in the text
A.To describe the extreme weather conditions.
B.To illustrate the change in students’ attitudes.
C.To compare the writing styles of two students.
D.To explain the biological process of plant growth.
27.What does the underlined word “the true harvest” in Para. 5 refer to
A.The financial profit. B.Mastery of scientific concepts.
C.A professional academic book. D.Students’ growth and lasting influence.

Many years ago, my dad was facing a serious heart condition. He was unable to do a steady job. He fell suddenly ill and had to be admitted to the hospital.
He wanted to do something to keep himself busy, so he decided to volunteer at the local children’s hospital. My dad loved kids. It was the perfect job for him. He ended up working with the seriously ill children. He would talk, play, and do arts with them.
One of his kids was a girl with a rare disease that paralyzed (瘫痪) her from the neck down. She couldn’t do anything, and she was very depressed. My dad decided to try to help her. He started visiting her in her room, bringing paints, brushes and paper. He stood the paper up, put the paintbrush in his mouth and began to paint. He didn’t use his hands at all. All the while he would tell her, “See, you can do anything you set your mind to.”At the end of the day, she began to paint using her mouth, and she and my dad became friends. Soon after, the little girl was sent home because the doctors felt there was nothing else they could do for her. My dad also left the children’s hospital for a little while because he became ill. Some time later after my dad had recovered and returned to work, in came the little girl who had been paralyzed and only this time she was walking. She ran straight over to my dad and hugged him really tight. She gave him a picture she had done using her hands. At the bottom it read: “Thank you for helping me walk.”

I’m Thomas from the United Kingdom, working in Beijing, and I’m a shopping addict (迷). The main source of my addiction is Taobao, China’s massive online shopping platform — a place for everything from clothes to books, and everything in between. It makes Amazon look like a corner shop.
My favorite is mostly books and different kinds of water bottles. My cupboard has a shelf full of them, many of which my size will no longer allow me to crowd into.
What’s worse is that the app’s very clever algorithms (算法) track what I look through, so every time I open it on my phone, I am greeted by an advertisement inviting me to dip deeper into my digital wallet. I don’t even have to open the app. They are available to purchase with just a tap of my finger.
Once you make an order, you need to wait. The shipping gives your heart a little hit. Then there’s another little rush of endorphins (内啡肽) when the delivery person picks it up. You watch your package edging its way up the map to Beijing. When the app tells you it’s on the delivery bike, the same excitement as a kid on Christmas morning takes hold as you wait for the knock at the door. Much like a little dog waiting for its master to return home from work.
The packaging is eagerly removed, exciting another hit of happiness. An hour later, the buyer’s regret comes. To make yourself feel better, you start using the app once more and the cycle starts all over again.
I could blame (责备) my addiction on Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba, Taobao’s parent company, or point a finger at Liu Qiangdong, founder of JD, a similarly addictive domestic shopping app. I could even blame Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who started all this e-commerce.
“Surely, Thomas,” I hear you ask, “instead of blaming poor billionaires, you should take responsibility for your own sudden desire and lack of willpower.”
32.Why is Thomas crazy about Taobao
A.It helps bring in money. B.He prefers online platforms.
C.It offers multiple item options. D.Amazon is too distant to access.
33.How can Thomas’s phone know what he prefers
A.His digital wallet pays for it automatically.
B.He searches online when he opens the phone.
C.He communicates with the Taobao business owner.
D.The app’s algorithms follow his digital footprints.
34.What is paragraph 4 mainly about
A.The author’s expectation of the purchased item.
B.The challenges of online shopping.
C.The long journey of a purchased item.
D.The accuracy of the shopping app.
35.What does the author want to convey in this passage
A.We should say no to e-commerce. B.We should blame Taobao.
C.We should be responsible for our purchasing. D.We should admire billionaires.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
I played sports in high school, but did not have the talent to continue in college, though I did some casual running, falling into it more regularly in my late teens. I was overjoyed when my three-mile weekend run turned into four miles, then five, six, and so forth. 36
In my early 20s, I primarily ran every other day, with a longer run on the weekends. That first race, The Liberty Half Marathon in Jersey City, gave me the confidence to keep going. Later, I ran my first marathon in New York City. 37 Since then, I have run dozens of marathons.
Professionally, I have been a school administrator for more than 20 years now and running has had a huge impact on my role as a high school principal. 38 Running is an outlet, a stress reducer, and the most healthy habit I have managed to stick to — a time to think without distraction.
A week ago, I gave a TEDx Talk titled “What Running Has Taught Me about Being a School Administrator”. My school district encouraged me to come up with a topic that I knew well and that was important to me. 39 Step-by-step progress over time, the temporariness of pain, rest, and gratitude are essential to both running and learning.
Running has enabled me to see things I never would have seen — cities I would never have visited, grey owls at dusk, and people helping others. Right now, I average about 50 miles per week, but my daily mileage fluctuates (波动) based on life’s demands. As a distance lover, not a speed specialist, I prefer slow, steady runs. 40 I am in the 50s right now, so I have a long way to go.
A.I thought I had found a super power.
B.My role as an administrator brings me joy.
C.The job is sometimes stressful and demanding.
D.Long distances became my biggest running headache.
E.It was the most moving experience of my life to that point.
F.I tried to convey how running reshapes my perspective on learning.
G.Ideally, I would like to reach the milestone of completing 100 marathons.

Many electricians, plumbers and welders (焊接工) like to think they are safe from the AI and robot wave 56 (sweep) the global job market, but it seems that in the face of technology development at a lightning speed, no one is truly safe from this threat. For example, China recently announced that one of 57 (it) robots successfully replaced human electricians 58 performed critical repairs on a 10 kV powerline.
The robot electrician, 59 was developed by the Hubei Electric Power Research Institute and Wuhan State Grid, can navigate even 60 most complex wiring environments. “Most importantly, it 61 (complete) prevents people from being hurt by electric current,” Wu Xin, a technician from Wuhan State Grid, said.
This 62 (significance) repair job marked a major step forward in ensuring the absolute safety of electrical workers in extremely dangerous environments. Typically, electricians wear special protective gear and conduct repairs on 10 kV power lines with live wires 63 (prevent) power outages (停电) in surrounding areas, putting them 64 extreme danger. One sunny Saturday, 15-year-old Mark was riding his bicycle through the city park. He loved the feeling of the wind on his face and the peace of the green trees around him. The morning sunlight shone through the leaves, creating dancing shadows on the winding path. As he rode past a wooden bench, something shiny caught his eye. He stopped his bike and walked over carefully. It was a black camera bag, left quietly on the seat.
Mark looked around, but there was no one nearby. The park was quiet except for a few birds singing in the trees. He pulled open the bag and sucked in a cold breath. Inside was a high-end professional camera with a huge lens. It looked very expensive and well-maintained. Mark’s heart beat fast. He had always wanted a camera like this. He dreamed of being a photographer, but his family couldn’t afford such expensive equipment. His part-time job at the grocery store barely covered his school supplies.
“Maybe the owner lost it and won’t come back,” a voice in his head whispered. “Finders keepers.”
He sat on the bench, holding the heavy camera. He turned it on and looked at the photos stored in it. There were hundreds of pictures: a smiling baby, a wedding, an old couple holding hands, and a beautiful golden retriever dog. These weren’t just random shots; they were someone’s precious memories that could never be replaced.
Mark felt a knot in his stomach. If he kept the camera, he would have a great device, but someone else would lose these irreplaceable moments. He looked at the tag on the side of the bag. Faded ink showed a phone number.
He hesitated for a moment, looking at the cool camera one last time, and then pulled out his mobile phone. He decided to do the right thing, even if it meant giving up his dream camera.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
He dialed the number on the tag.

Text 10
According to a recent report from the World Wildlife Fund(WWF),the population of African elephants has shown a significant increase in certain areas over the past decade. This positive change is largely the result of government's anti-hunting laws and community-based efforts.(17) In countries like Kenya and Botswana, governments have taken stronger measures to protect elephants from illegal hunting.Besides, some countries like Gabon, Tanzania and Namibia have used advanced technology, such as GPS to monitor elephant movements in real time.(18) The advanced technology can save time and cut costs. Additionally, local communities have been actively involved in protecting these animals, as they increasingly recognize the importance of elephants.Elephants attract thousands of visitors each year, generating income and jobs for locals, which encourages communities to participate in conservation programs.(19) However, despite these. successes, challenges still remain.Habitat loss due to human activities continues to threaten elephant populations Climate change is also affecting their access to water and food, leading to more frequent human-elephant conflicts as animals go into villages in search of resources.Conservationists emphasize that while progress has been made, protecting African elephants is a long-term process.(20)

I really want to take part in this meaningful activity. Youth Day inspires us to be responsible and energetic, and I hope to show the spirit of Chinese youth to foreign teachers through hosting. Besides, I have many advantages. I have a good command of English and can speak fluently. Also, I once hosted an English party, so I’m experienced and confident on stage. I’m easy to work with and will make full preparations.
I would appreciate it if I could be chosen.
Yours,
Li Hua

He dialed the number on the tag. The phone rang for a long time before a worried voice answered. “Hello ” a man asked. Mark cleared his throat and said, “Hello, my name is Mark. I found a camera bag in the city park. Is this yours ” There was a moment of silence, followed by a gasp of relief. “Oh, thank you! Yes! I’m a photographer, and those photos are incredibly important to me. I thought I had lost them forever.” The man’s voice was shaking with emotion. Mark gave him the location of the park bench and promised to wait for him. Hanging up the phone, Mark felt a weight lift off his chest. He knew he had made the right choice.
Half an hour later, a gray car pulled up anxiously near the park entrance. The man jumped out and ran towards the bench. When he saw Mark holding the bag, he smiled widely. “Thank you so much, young man!” he said, checking the camera to make sure everything was safe. “You saved my career.” He insisted on giving Mark a reward, but Mark refused. “I just did what I should do,” Mark said. The man smiled, “Well, at least let me teach you a few things about photography.” From that day on, Mark not only gained a mentor but also learned that honesty captures the most beautiful picture of all.
