For three decades, Camilleri, a Canadian fashion designer, had made a name for herself dressing A-listers. Her beautiful, delicate styles from leather, to evening wear, to custom other showed in the covers of the hottest magazines.
But when Turnbull — a well-known journalist and wheelchair user since a terrible accident left her quadriplegic (四肢瘫痪者) in 1983 — approached her to design stylish, comfortable
clothes to fit her body through the seasons, Camilleri realized her real calling was to help bring fashion to a completely under-served community. “I had no idea that someone in a chair had any different clothing needs than you or I,” says the designer. “The world was my market because
nobody had ever done this before.” In 2004 Camilleri opened a boutique (精品店) specially for people who use wheelchairs.
“Everything we do, the starting point is from a seated frame. So what happens when you’re sitting What happens to the clothes Where are they getting together ” Camilleri explains. “We literally had to recreate the patterns to accommodate a seated frame.”
Her custom creations have changed lives. Winkelaar has been in a wheelchair since a car
accident two weeks before his fourth birthday. Until he met Camilleri, he lacked confidence in his appearance and was afraid of entering the clothing stores because he had trouble finding trousers that fit properly. Salah has spastic cerebral palsy She says clothing stores are
always daunting places full of pieces out of reach. Salah says she carries herself differently now and she is more confident in her appearance. Being able to have access to fashionable functional clothing gives her a lot of dignity (尊严).
“Camilleri’s pieces are now part of an exhibit at the Royal Ontario Museum, and her
success in a new rare market has not gone unnoticed in the mainstream fashion world. She is a
truly brilliant technician. She puts fashion and confidence within reach of the disabled,” Canadian television personality and fashion critic Jeanne Beker says.
24 .What drives Camilleri to open a boutique
A .Seeking fame. B .Making a profit.
C .Meeting a challenge. D .Providing service.

26 .What message does Beker want to convey in the last paragraph
A .Camilleri is a highly original thinker. B .Camilleri is a productive market advisor.
C .Camilleri is a successful fashion innovator. D .Camilleri is a critical technician leader.
27 .Which of the following can best describe Camilleri
A .Creative and stubborn. B .Caring and farsighted.

Suppose you’re preparing for a tennis match. Your mind wanders, envisioning (预想) every possible outcome. Do you picture yourself in control Or does your imagination toy with the idea of failure The answer matters because it could affect your confidence and, ultimately, how well
you will perform in the upcoming match. Although people don’t take such moments spent in their imagination as seriously as they should, it can be just as vital as any physical practice, directly
impacting your chances of success.
This is especially the case in high-pressure situations where what’s happening inside your mind outweighs what’s happening outside. Your imagination shapes how you interpret the world around you and is capable of causing the same physiological (生理的) and emotional responses that are caused by external, real-life events. To take just one example, just as emotional pictures and sounds can cause the pupils to widen, so can emotional mental images in the mind.
Another phenomenon highlighting the significance of the imagination is called functional
equivalence (相等), which refers to the way the brain doesn’t always distinguish between
imagining an action and physically doing it. For instance, when athletes vividly imagine running a
race or sinking a basket, their brain scans reveal that the same neural circuits (神经回路) are
activated as if they were physically performing the task. Other research with athletes using
functional MRI (磁共振成像) has shown that mental practice engages regions of the brain
involved in controlling the body and also activates areas linked to focus, motivation and emotional regulation.
The principle of functional equivalence extends beyond sports. In one study, pianists were asked to picture moving their fingers across the keys, hearing the tune, and seeing the sheet music. Astonishingly, the same motor areas in their brains lit up as when they actually played.
Many studies like this have proved the connection between mental imagery and real-world performance. Whether you’re aiming to build confidence or prepare for a challenge, using your imagination with more intention could make all the difference. The key is to switch your mental channel to an image of capability, control and empowerment.
28 .How does the author start the text
A .By giving a definition. B .By explaining an opinion.
C .By sharing an experience. D .By presenting a context.
29 .In which aspect is mental imagery the same as actual occurrences according to the text
A .Requiring body movements. B .Causing emotional responses.
C .Affecting physical functions. D .Strengthening visual reactions.
30 .In which case may functional equivalence occur
A .A doctor envisions the procedure of an operation.
B .A learner conducts a discussion with a professor.
C .A pianist videos finger movements for perfection.
D .A speaker practices a deep breath before a speech.
31 .What can be a suitable title for the text
A .Positive emotion brightens your life. B .Imagination promotes your creativity.
C .Mental imagery increases your success. D .Physical practice unlocks your potential.

Each year, an estimated 53 000 tourists visit Antarctica, and they could each be
unintentionally contributing to the melting of 83 tons of snow, according to a new study published
in Nature Communications.
The culprit is black carbon, created when fossil (化石) fuels and biomass are burnt. Black carbon settles on the snow, causing it to darken in color. This increases the absorption of heat
from the sun and quickens melting.
Due to its remoteness, Antarctica has a low background level of black-carbon pollution compared to other parts of the world. However, the new study indicates that black carbon from Antarctic tourism and research activities has nevertheless had a notable effect on the icy
landscape.
The international research team measured black carbon concentrations in snow collected
from 28 sites along a 2 000-kilometer stretch of the northern Antarctic Peninsula. The researchers found that black carbon levels were higher near research facilities and landing sites for tourist
ships than at remoter regions of the peninsula.
The study estimates that, in heavily impacted areas, black carbon pollution is causing
snowpack to decrease by up to 23 millimeters each year. Altogether, an estimated 4.4 megatons of snow per year is melting more quickly in the summer due to the impacts of black carbon from
tourism alone — translating to 83 tons per visitor. Although these figures are striking, the real impact could be more complex than what the data suggest.
“It is likely that local emissions (排放物) account for most of the black carbon content in samples collected around research facilities and popular shore tourist-landing sites,” the paper states.
Ships, airplanes, helicopters, generators and trucks are known sources of black carbon that can settle on snow. The study authors suggest that tourist cruises and fuel-powered equipment at scientific research stations are likely the largest sources of black-carbon pollution in the study
area. That’s despite efforts in recent years to reduce the environmental footprint of Antarctic tourism, such as switching to marine diesel (船用柴油) or deep cycle battery power.
“Our results show that more remains to be done to reduce the impacts of tourism and ships in Antarctica,” the authors write.
32 .What does the underlined word “culprit” in paragraph 2 mean
A .Harmful gas. B .Main cause. C .Useful energy. D .Unexpected result.
33 .How is black carbon produced in Antarctica
A .By winds blowing in from north.
B .By volcanic activities under the ice.
C .By fuel use in tourism and research.
D .By natural changes in temperature.
34 .What do the figures in paragraph 5 most likely imply
A .The impacts of human activities may be underestimated.
B .The snowpack melting problem is overstated distinctly.
C .Antarctica tourism should be banned for a good cause.
D .Every visitor is to blame for the melting snow.
35 .What do the study authors think of current environmental efforts in Antarctica
A .They are a drop in the bucket.
B .They paint a rosy picture.
C .They boost Antarctica tourism.
D .They still show limited effect.
During puberty (青春期), your body goes through many changes, and you start forming a body image — how you see, think, and feel about your body’s size, shape, and weight, or specific features like your nose. 36 For instance, you may believe your nose is too big or too
small, even though it looks perfectly normal.
37 One major influence is peer (同龄人) pressure. Your friends might make casual jokes about your appearance, or you might compare yourself to them and feel they look better. Such experiences can harm the way you view yourself. Another powerful influence is the media, which often promotes a narrow, ideal body type. For example, if fair skin is portrayed as beautiful, you may feel insecure if you don’t match that ideal.
Developing a negative body image can lead to unhealthy behaviors, such as extreme
dieting, overexercising, or even risky plastic surgeries. 38 When you focus too much on appearance, you may forget to appreciate other great things about yourself, such as your talents
and personality.
To build a positive body image, it’s essential to remember that no perfect body exists, as beauty standards are always changing. Models and celebrities may appear flawless in the media, but much of their appearance is due to makeup, angles, lighting, and editing. 39
Rather than focusing on appearances, value people for their true selves. By surrounding yourself with positive influences and avoiding comments on looks, you can redirect your attention from self-criticism. 40 Over time, you’ll build inner confidence and develop a healthier, more accepting relationship with your body.
A .Many factors shape your body image.
B .It also lowers your overall life satisfaction.
C .However, your true beauty lies within your heart.
D .External judgement can be a double-edged sword.
E .Without these tricks, they are just as “imperfect” as everyone else.
F .Surprisingly, body image is shaped more by your thoughts than by reality.
G .This shift enables you to recognize and celebrate your talents and strengths.

The term “Chinamaxxing” has recently taken overseas social media by storm. It is a newly 56 (coin) word, combining “China” with “maxxing” — a gaming slang meaning to
maximize or take something to the extreme. This cultural trend refers to young people, especially Western Gen Z, embracing Chinese lifestyle 57 (element), from drinking hot water to
wearing slippers indoors.
CNN recently reported on what young Americans are increasingly dissatisfied with in their own country. Issues like political 58 (uncertain) and old infrastructure make China’s
modern cities look like a “futuristic” alternative.
The rise of Chinamaxxing can be traced back to several factors. One key trigger was the
possible TikTok ban in the US, 59 drove many American users to the Chinese app
RedNote. There, they discovered a real and unfiltered version of everyday Chinese life,
60 (reshape) their views. 61 (additional), China’s expanded visa-free transit
policies 62 (allow) more foreigners to visit and experience the country for themselves in the past few years.
However, experts warn against seeing this trend as too perfect. Daniel Ahmad, a research
director, describes it 63 “a way of coping” for young Westerners disappointed with their own societies.
Despite these debates, one thing is clear: Chinamaxxing is more than just a popular topic online. It represents 64 shift in global cultural flows, where Chinese lifestyles
65 (see) as increasingly desirable and worth adopting.

Mrs. Thompson, a retired teacher, was well-known for her insightful advice and genuine willingness to help others. Many high school students often turned to her for guidance and as her neighbor, me included.
One afternoon, feeling troubled and uncertain about my future after a disappointing exam,I decided to knock on Mrs. Thompson’s door.
“I don’t know what I’m doing with my life,” I admitted, my eyes fixed on the floor.“It feels like everyone else has it all figured out, and I’m just stuck.“ My voice trembled with sadness and a hint of fear.
I had bombed my last math test, and it felt like that failure stayed in every corner of my
mind, increasing my anxiety about college examination and what I might want to pursue. While
my friends seemed to advance effortlessly through their studies, I was struggling to stay afloat. The feeling that I was falling behind only deepened my sense of hopelessness.
Mrs. Thompson listened carefully, her face a picture of calm and understanding. Without saying much , she handed me a small tomato seedling (苗) in a pot. The tiny plant ,with its delicate green leaves, seemed to symbolize a slight sign of hope.
”Let’s plant this in the garden,“ she said gently. “Water it every day and make sure it gets enough sunlight. But for a whole week, don’t focus on its progress. Just trust that it’s growing.”
Every day, I faithfully watered the little seedling, as ifI was putting my own hopes into it.I carefully ensured it got the right amount of sunlight, positioning it just so under the sun’s
rays. With great self-control, I resisted the urge to examine it too closely. As the days went by, I
felt a mix of eagerness and impatience, like a child waiting for a long-promised gift, longing to see some sign that my efforts were making a difference.

M: If you dream of a newer and fitter you, starting this January. I have some bad news:
70% of health-related New Year’s resolutions are given up in the first week. By the end of the
month, 90% of us have got the chocolate cake back in the cupboard and the pizzas in the freezer, while the new gym membership card is gathering dust. This may not seem a very inspiring start on motivation, but we need to learn what has gone wrong, so that this time we can do it differently,
with the help of science. I guess most ofus have started something with good intentions, only to
fail at a later stage through shortage of something, such as energy or commitment. So, what’s the secret Exercise devotion, which means making an organized program and keep up with it, applies to everyone, from great athletes who need the extra drive that turns a natural talent into an
Olympic gold, to the overweight who need to do something to protect themselves against heart
disease and cancer. Somewhere in the middle of these extremes, struggling to get to the gym three
times a week, is you. This involves setting realistic goals, scheduling workouts, tracking progress, and adjusting the program as needed. You can do it. All you need is a bit of moral support and
some good old-fashioned determination.

根据第二段中“Your imagination shapes how you interpret the world around you and is capable of causing the same physiological (生理的) and emotional responses that are
caused by external, real-life events.
根据第三段中“Another phenomenon highlighting the significance of the imagination is called functional equivalence (相等), which refers to the way the brain doesn’t
always distinguish between imagining an action and physically doing it.(另一个突出想象力重要性的现象称为功能等同,指大脑并不总是能区分想象一个动作和实际执行它)”及“Other
research with athletes using functional MRI (磁共振成像) has shown that mental practice engages regions of the brain involved in controlling the body and also activates areas linked to focus,
故选 A。

根据第二段中“The culprit is black carbon, created when fossil (化石) fuels and biomass are burnt. Black carbon settles on the snow, causing it to darken in color. This
increases the absorption of heat from the sun and quickens melting.(culprit 黑碳,它是在燃烧化石燃料和生物质的过程中产生的。
However, the new study indicates that black carbon from
Antarctic tourism and research activities has nevertheless had a notable effect on the icy
以及倒数第二段中“The study authors suggest that tourist cruises and fuel-powered
equipment at scientific research stations are likely the largest sources of black-carbon pollution in
the study area.(研究作者认为,旅游游轮和科研站的燃油设备可能是该研究区域黑碳污染的最大来源。)”
The study estimates that, in heavily impacted areas, black carbon pollution is causing snowpack to decrease by up to 23 millimeters each year. Altogether, an
estimated 4.4 megatons of snow per year is melting more quickly in the summer due to the
impacts of black carbon from tourism alone — translating to 83 tons per visitor. Although these
figures are striking, the real impact could be more complex than what the data suggest.(研究估算,在受污染严重的区域,黑碳污染每年会导致积雪厚度减少多达 23 毫米。 故选 A。
根据最后一段中““Our results show that more remains to be done to reduce the impacts of tourism and ships in Antarctica,” the authors write.(作者写道:“我们的研究结果表明,在减少旅游业和船只对南极的影响方面,还有很多工作要做。”)”

may feel insecure if you don’t match that ideal.(一个主要的影响因素是同伴的压力。 故选 A。

Rather than focusing on appearances, value people for their true selves. By
surrounding yourself with positive influences and avoiding comments on looks, you can redirect
your attention from self-criticism.(与其关注外表,不如看重人的真实自我。通过让自己周围充满积极的影响,避免对长相的评论,你可以将注意力从自我批评上转移开)”及下文“Over time, you’ll build inner confidence and develop a healthier, more accepting relationship with your

Music and My Life
Music plays an important role in my life. It is like a friend who is always there for me.
When I feel happy, I listen to pop music and dance along. When I am sad or stressed, soft piano music helps me relax and forget my worries. Before exams, I often listen to light music
while reviewing my lessons. It makes me feel calm and focused. Music also helps me make
friends. I joined the school music club last year and met many people who share the same interest. We often discuss our favorite songs and singers.
In short, bringing color to my life, music makes every day better. I can’t imagine a world without it.
67 .“Let’s go to check on the plant,” Mrs. Thompson said to me a week later. With a heart full of anticipation, I followed her to the garden. When we reached the spot where we’d planted the
seedling, I was amazed. The once - tiny plant had grown significantly. Its leaves were greener and more robust, and it stood taller, reaching towards the sky. Mrs. Thompson looked at me and
(

)smiled, “You see, just like this seedling, growth doesn’t always happen at a speed we can immediately notice. Your efforts in studying are like the care you gave this plant. They’re working even if you can’t see the results right away ”
One day, as I bent down to water it, a tiny yellow flower caught my eye. A sense of joy and accomplishment washed over me. That little flower was a symbol of hope and proof that my care had paid off. It made me realize that just as the seedling needed time and consistent care to bloom, so did I in my studies. I no longer felt as lost or hopeless. From then on, I faced my study challenges with newfound confidence, knowing that with perseverance, my efforts would surely lead to beautiful “blooms” in my future.
