Dargye, 56, an artist who excels at traditional craftsmanship (技艺) and Tibetan folk music in Drinba village in Dragyib district, Nyingchi, Xizang autonomous region, remembers many folk songs he learned from his father and uncle. Now, it’s his turn to pass them on.
“I have liked traditional songs and dances since I was a child,” said Dargye, who has four
apprentices (学徒). “The songs tell the histories of our ancestors and carry our unique culture, and it’s always a lot of fun to perform these traditional songs and dances at various gatherings.” The
song topics vary from archery, love, to labor and praise for the land. In addition to teaching these songs to his family members and apprentices, he also uses social media platforms such as WeChat to teach songs.
His daughter, Chok Butri, also admires the folk culture. After posting a video of her
daughter, Tsering Kyi, dancing on Douyin, she gained a lot of new fans on the popular short-video platform. “We are modern people living in a modern era, so it’s important and our responsibility
that we use modern tools to pass on our traditional culture to make it last forever.” said Chok Butri, adding that she often posts songs and dances on WeChat and Douyin.
Dargye and his fellow villagers also recreate songs, adding modern elements such as
aircraft and trains to the lyrics. Besides singing and dancing, Dargye makes handicrafts decorated with Tibetan cultural elements, including various hide and hair ropes, bags made of leather and

More than half of Americans have felt the influence (影响) of extreme heat on health,
according to a survey. That percentage is even higher in California, where heat is the top problem, reported by 71% of those surveyed.
“California does have low levels of air conditioning in homes, maybe because it has cool
wind in many parts, but when an extreme heat event comes and there’s no cool air available, you are in trouble,” said David Eisenman, a health researcher. “So you are seeing this higher number.”
Luz Rivas from Los Angeles grew up in a home without air conditioning. “Families like mine have suffered from heat for years,” said Rivas. On hot days, her mother used to take her to the mall to cool down. “Now that these heat waves are getting longer, methods used in the past aren’t going to work as well,” Rivas added.
The California Environment Protection Agency will create a heat wave ranking (热浪排名) system to give public warnings. It’s supposed to help the public, especially those outdoor workers, know the seriousness of the heat wave and then learn what they should do. The idea is backed up (支持) widely. Many health researchers point out the health risks of heat are worse for outdoor
workers, saying that in summer, there’s an 8% increase in deaths on the hottest days.
Lawmakers of California are also considering making indoor cooling a housing right. It can especially help renters like Minerva Contreras, a mother of two living near Bakersfield. Her neighbourhood has seen many days with temperatures over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. “It’s very difficult because it’s like not being able to breathe,” said Contreras.
Indoor cooling standards are valued by renters but may face a serious fight, and many house owners think the standards fail to consider the variety of climates in the state. For now, the cost of keeping cool for renters mostly falls on them. Contreras doesn’t hold much hope that California
will pass cooling standards, saying, “But I would like it very much.”
28 .What can we learn about Californians
A .They are more affected by hot weather.
B .They can be more adapted to hot weather.
C .They are more concerned about their health.
D .They always have a bigger demand for air conditioning.
29 .How is the method of cooling down in the mall according to Rivas in paragraph 2
A .It is a marketing strategy.
B .It is worthy of a try.
C .It is not as useful as before.
D .It has gained popularity.
30 .Why does the author mention the increase of deaths on hot days
A .To have pity on outdoor workers.
B .To prove the necessity of the system.
C .To tell outdoor workers to work harder.
D .To warn people to fight against the heat outside.
31 .What does Contreras think of passing indoor cooling standards
A .Amusing. B .Challenging.
C .Shocking. D .Puzzling.

Small-scale fisheries supply many people with food. Almost all of those in this trade rely on gillnets (刺网) to trap fish. But gillnets trap other things, for example, endangered animals such as turtles; dangerous ones, such as Humboldt squid; and ones that are both endangered and
dangerous, such as several types of sharks. Everyone involved would be better off if this did not happen.
Building on studies done both by himself and by others, to try to avoid the accidental
netting of turtles, Jesse Senko, a marine-conservation biologist at Arizona State University, has
been investigating the idea of fitting LEDs to nets to avoid netting other unwanted by-catch (误捕的鱼) without discouraging target animals. And, as he reports in Current Biology, it seems to
work.
Dr. Senko and his team set up an experiment in the Gulf of Ulloa, in Mexico, in which they
cooperated with local fishermen to employ over 10,000 meters of nets that had had nets
battery-powered waterproof green LEDs fixed onto them every ten meters. Half of these lights were lit. The other half were left unlit, as controls. Each lit net was paired with an unlit one, and the two were used alongside one another at major fishing locations. The fishers’ target fish were large groupers (石斑鱼). Dr. Senko was interested both in what else got caught and whether the lights decreased catches of the target species.
On the latter point, to his relief, they did not. On the former, the lit net s caught 95% fewer kilograms of shark-related species. In particular, several threatened species turned up less often in the lit than the unlit nets.
The advantage from the point of view of fishermen was that they needed to spend a lot less time clearing these dangerous by-catches from their nets. And, crucially, the LEDs concerned are cheap, hard-wearing, and easy to fix. There are also plans to make them solar powered, for easy recharging. Here, then, is an environmental-protection idea from which everyone wins.
32 .What is the problem with gillnets
A .They are costly to maintain. B .They trap unwanted by-catches.
C .They discourage target catches. D .They only trap dangerous species.
33 .What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about
A .The principle of the experiment. B .The results of the experiment.
C .The purpose of the experiment D .The process of the experiment.
34 .What can be inferred from Dr. Senko’s experiment
A .Fixing LEDs to gillnets is a win-win idea.
B .Fishermen benefit the most from the idea.
C .The Lit-net catches more threatened species.
D .The LED-net just catches less target species.
35 .What was the author’s attitude to the LEDs’ idea
A .Critical. B .Unclear. C .Hopeful. D .Doubtful.

根据第二段“Dargye, 56, an artist who excels at traditional craftsmanship (技艺) and Tibetan folk music in Drinba village in Dragyib district, Nyingchi, Xizang autonomous
region, remembers many folk songs he learned from his father and uncle. Now, it’s his turn to pass them on.
根据第四段中“His daughter, Chok Butri, also admires the folk culture. After posting a video of her daughter, Tsering Kyi, dancing on Douyin, she gained a lot of new fans on the popular short-video platform. (他的女儿 Chok Butri 也很欣赏民俗文化。她在抖音上发布了女儿 Tsering Kyi 跳舞的视频后,在这个流行的短视频平台上获得了许多新粉丝)”等内容可推知,作者提到 Dargye 的女儿的目的是为了显示 Dargye对她的影响。故选 A 项。
根据第三段中 Dargye 所说“I have liked traditional songs and dances since I was a child.(我从小就喜欢传统歌舞)”和“The songs tell the histories of our ancestors and carry our unique culture, and it’s always a lot of fun to perform these traditional songs and dances at
various gatherings. (这些歌曲讲述了我们祖先的历史,承载了我们独特的文化,在各种聚会上表演这些传统歌曲和舞蹈总是很有趣)”可推知,Dargye 热忠于自己的民族文化;根据倒数第二段中“Dargye and his fellow villagers also recreate songs, adding modern elements such as
aircraft and trains to the lyrics.
Dargye, 56, an artist who excels at traditional
craftsmanship (技艺) and Tibetan folk music in Drinba village in Dragyib district, Nyingchi,
Xizang autonomous region, remembers many folk songs he learned from his father and uncle.
(

)Now, it’s his turn to pass them on.
现在,轮到他把它们传递下去了)”和最后一段中“The local government encourages villagers to inherit (继承) and develop folk songs and other forms of traditional culture.(当地政府鼓励村民继承和发展民歌等传统文化)”可知,本文讲述了一名擅长传统工艺和藏族民间音乐的艺术家Dargye 通过传承藏族歌曲保护民族文化的故事。

根据第一段中“That percentage is even higher in California, where heat is the top problem, reported by 71% of those surveyed.(在加州,这一比例甚至更高,71%的受访者表示,高温是首要问题)”可知,加利福尼亚人受炎热天气的影响更大。故选 A。
On hot days, her mother used to take her to the mall to cool
down. “Now that these heat waves are getting longer, methods used in the past aren’t going to
work as well,” Rivas added.(在炎热的日子里,她母亲过去常带她去商场乘凉。‘现在热浪越来越长,过去的方法不再那么有效了,”里瓦斯补充道)”可知,Rivas 认为,在商场降温的方法不如以前有用了。故选 C。
30.推理判断题。根据倒数第三段中“The California Environment Protection Agency will create a heat wave ranking (热浪排名) system to give public warnings. It’s supposed to help the public, especially those outdoor workers, know the seriousness of the heat wave and then learn what they should do. The idea is backed up (支持) widely. Many health researchers point out the health risks of heat are worse for outdoor workers, saying that in summer, there’s an 8% increase in deaths on the hottest days.(加州环境保护局将建立一个热浪排名系统,向公众发出警告。它应该帮助公众,特别是那些户外工作者,了解热浪的严重性,然后了解他们应该做什么。这个想法得到了广泛的支持。许多健康研究人员指出,高温对户外工作者的健康风险更大,他们说,在夏季,最热的日子里死亡人数增加了 8%)”可推知,作者提到最热日子死亡人数的增加是为了证明建立热浪排名系统的必要性。故选 B。
31.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Indoor cooling standards are valued by renters but may face a serious fight, and many house owners think the standards fail to consider the variety of climates in the state. For now, the cost of keeping cool for renters mostly falls on them. Contreras doesn’t
hold much hope that California will pass cooling standards, saying, “But I would like it very

dangerous, such as several types of sharks.(但是刺网可以捕获其他的东西,比如濒危动物,比如海龟;危险的,比如洪堡乌贼;还有一些既濒危又危险的动物,比如几种鲨鱼。)”及第二段中“Building on studies done both by himself and by others, to try to avoid the accidental netting of turtles, Jesse Senko, a marine-conservation biologist at Arizona State University, has been
investigating the idea of fitting LEDs to nets to avoid netting other unwanted by-catch (误捕的鱼) without discouraging target animals.
Dr. Senko and his team set up an experiment in the Gulf of Ulloa, in Mexico, in which they cooperated with local fishermen to employ over 10,000 meters of nets
that had had nets battery-powered waterproof green LEDs fixed onto them every ten meters. Half of these lights were lit. The other half were left unlit, as controls. Each lit net was paired with an
unlit one, and the two were used alongside one another at major fishing locations.
On the former, the lit net s caught 95% fewer kilograms of shark-related species. In particular, several threatened species turned up less often in the lit than
the unlit nets. 和最后一段中“The advantage from the point of view of fishermen was that they needed to spend a lot less time clearing these
dangerous by-catches from their nets. 故选 A 项。
根据最后一段中“Here, then, is an environmental-protection idea from which everyone wins. (因此,这是一个人人受益的环保理念。)”等内容可知,作者对 LEDs 的想法充满希望。故选 C 项。
