Seeing Mr.Thompson step inside,Sophie hid her surprise.She pulled out a chair and placed a
plate of cookies before him,offering a welcoming smile.He hesitated,then took one,chewing
slowly as his guarded expression gave way to quiet contentment.Amid laughter and chatter,he
gradually relaxed,his eyes following Sophie.For the first time,he made no complaint.He paused
at the door and looked back,his face no longer stem but touched with gratitude.Our laughter
echoed not only from our home but also from Mr.Thompson's heart.
