Growing up in Norway (挪威), I had heard a lot about polar exploration. As a child, I spent a lot of time outdoors building bonfires (篝火), camping and skiing in the mountains.
Aged 14, seven years before my South Pole expedition (远征), I set my sights on becoming the youngest woman to ski across Greenland (格陵兰岛). At that age, several guiding companies were unwilling to take me on because I was so young. Then I met Lars Ebbesen, an experienced
polar guide. Straight away, I felt he respected my ambitions. But I had to go on an expedition to Finnmark first—a county in northern Norway—to prove I was capable. It was dark and cold but I fell in love with the challenge. That experience prepared me for Greenland, where the crossing
took 28 days due to terrible weather.
It was on my 15th birthday that I decided to go to Antarctica (南极洲). I didn’t tell my
mum about my plans at first. I just told my dad, who is like me, a big dreamer. My mum is more pragmatic. My dad and I contacted Lars to work out the details of the trip. When I told my mum, she realized I had already made up my mind and agreed.
When I began the expedition last November, I was 21. On the expedition, I was surprised that there was so much snowfall. On the hardest days, I was in fresh snow up to my knees and
could only go 9.5km in 10 hours. Towards the end, my lungs were painful, and I struggled to breathe.
When I crossed Greenland, Lars nicknamed me “the polar egg”. The idea was that one day I would hatch (破壳) and do a bigger expedition on my own. When I reached the South Pole I sent him an emoji (表情符号) of a chick breaking out of an egg. Though with everything I’ve
experienced, I feel much older than that.
4 .Why did the author go on the Finnmark journey
A .To show her abilities. B .To escape her everyday life.
C .To explore a remote area. D .To meet an experienced team.
5 .What does the underlined word “pragmatic” in paragraph 3 mean
A .Flexible. B .Realistic. C .Athletic. D .Accessible.
6 .What can we infer about the author during her South Pole expedition
A .She braved the physical challenges. B .She enjoyed the landscape most.
C .She gained several survival skills. D .She adapted to the environment soon.
7 .What did the author intend to communicate by sending Lars the emoji
A .She was ready for a new task. B .She made his expectations come true.
C .She was worthy of what she achieved. D .She did more than he believed possible.

Social media has become an essential part of adolescents’ lives. Platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and WeChat allow teens to connect with peers, share moments from daily life, and
express themselves. While social media offers entertainment and a sense of belonging, it also poses hidden risks to teens’ mental health, a growing concern among psychologists worldwide.
One significant issue is the pressure to create a perfect online image. A 2024 study by the Chinese Academy of Adolescent Health (CAAH) found that over 68% of teens post edited or
filtered photos, showcasing only the glamorous aspects of their lives, such as fancy meals or
exciting trips. This creates unrealistic expectations, causing anxiety when teens’ real lives don’t
match the idealized version they present online. The strong desire for likes and online approval
can further harm self-esteem; when posts receive little engagement, teens may feel unimportant or invisible, worsening their anxiety.
Another problem is the impact of social media on body image. Teens are constantly
exposed to images of“perfect” bodies, whether from influencers or classmates, leading them to develop unrealistic views of their own appearances. A study from Peking University showed that teens who spend more than three hours a day on social media are 3.2 times more likely to dislike their appearances. In severe cases, this can result in eating disorders or depression, which can
cause long-term psychological harm.
Fear of missing out (FOMO) is also common. When teens see their friends attending events or going on trips they weren’t invited to, it can lead to feelings of loneliness and exclusion. This
can cause anxiety and harm real-life relationships, as teens may feel disconnected from their social groups.
Finally, cyberbullying (网络霸凌) is a significant concern. Social media’s anonymity (匿名) allows people to post hurtful comments they wouldn’t say face-to-face, sometimes
leading to severe consequences, such as depression or a mental health crisis.
To reduce these risks, experts recommend setting screen-time limits, encouraging open
discussions about social media use, and helping teens focus on building self-acceptance. Educators stress the importance of teaching teens to distinguish online approval from their true self-worth.
8 .What can we learn about social media from the first paragraph
A .It only brings entertainment to adolescents
B .It is totally harmful to adolescents' mental health.
C .It brings benefits and hidden mental health risks to teens.
D .It worries global psychologists for replacing real social interaction.
9 .What can we infer about teens from paragraph 2
A .They use social media mainly to record real life.
B .They feel less anxious when receiving many likes.
C .They believe their polished online image reflects reality.
D .They increasingly tie their self-worth to online approval.
10 .How does FOMO affect teens’ real-life relationships
A .It makes teens feel left out. B .It reduces teens’ offline social desire.
C .It causes teens more social anxiety. D .It leads teens to distrust offline friends.
11 .What do experts recommend to reduce the risks of social media for teens
A .Pursuing more online likes and approval.
B .Prohibiting teens from using social media.
C .Increasing parental monitoring of online activities.
D .Developing teens’ inner strength and critical thinking.

Scientists in Australia thought they had developed a new tracking device to help them monitor magpies (喜鹊), but these birds had other ideas.
Australian magpies are medium-sized black and white birds from the same bird“family” as crows and bluejays. They are known to be quite clever. They live in groups of up to 12 birds and work together to defend the area they live in.
The purpose of the scientists’ experiment was to learn more about how far they travel each day and how their social behaviors are influenced by sex, age, and rank. Besides, the scientists
were eager to test the newly developed tracking device.
Most trackers are too big to fit on small and medium sized birds, and small trackers tend to be limited when it comes to data storage, battery life, and reusability. The new tracker, weighing less than 1 gram, was designed to overcome these problems. Attached to a backpack-like harness (背带) which could not be removed easily, the device can re-charge wirelessly and transmit (传输) data wirelessly.
The scientists placed trackers on five magpies using their special harnesses. Things started to fall apart almost immediately. Within 10 minutes of fitting the final tracker, an adult female
without a tracker tried to remove the harness from a younger bird and eventually succeeded. This pattern was repeated in the following hours, and by the third day none of the birds had trackers
anymore.
Scientists refer to this as“rescue behavior,” and it happens when a helper tries to free
another individual in trouble and with no obvious direct benefit to the rescuing individual. They
think this is the first time rescue behavior has been reported for Australian magpies. However, they aren’t sure if the same individual removed all of the harnesses or if others offered help.
The team didn’t get the data they wanted, but their experiment still produced interesting
results. That’s how science works sometimes. The scientists need to try, again to figure out a good way to track these clever birds.
12 .What can we learn about Australian magpies from paragraph 2
A .They outsmart crows. B .They are social species.
C .They are rarely spotted. D .They learn from each other.
13 .What is a big advantage of the new tracking device
A .It can work without wires. B .It can be applied to all birds.
C .It doesn’t come off the birds. D .It doesn’t need to be re-charged.
14 .What happened to the magpies after the trackers were attached to them
A .They couldn’t fly as normal.
B .They were warned by other magpies.
C .They helped each other to remove the trackers.
D .They were driven out of their home by other adult magpies.
15 .Which can be the best title for the text
A .Magpies Teach Scientists an Unexpected Lesson
B .Climate Change Makes Magpies More Difficult
C .The Trackers Help Magpies Get Used to Nature
D .Magpies Are Adjusting to the Trackers on Their Bodies

Growing up with fairy tales and fantasy movies, many of us associate wisdom with iconic characters like Gandalf (Lord of the Rings), Yoda (Star Wars), and Albus Dumbledore (Harry
Potter). Yet wisdom is not just a quality of fictional heroes — we all possess bits of it, and
developing it matters greatly. 16 Becoming wiser is a lifelong journey, not a destination. Here are practical strategies to help you grow.
Try experiencing new opportunities.
You will never grow from being in your comfort zone. This is the only way you will gain wisdom and become better. You can try learning new skills that you never thought of learning or going to places that were on your bucket list. 17
Meet new people.
18 Limiting yourself to those who share your exact views may feel safe, but it
holds back your growth. Engage with people who have different views, for exchanging ideas and learning from others’ experiences broadens your perspective and deepens your wisdom.
19
Develop a thirst for knowledge and learn something new every day. Don’t hesitate to search for answers when confused — whether it’s taking online courses, reading books, or listening to
educational podcasts, these activities sharpen your critical-thinking skills, enabling you to tackle problems from multiple angles.
Learn and grow from your mistakes.
All of us make mistakes in life, but it is the acknowledgment of mistakes that makes us
grow and do better next time. Whenever we make a mistake, we should learn from it. 20 Instead of blaming others or lingering on failures, ask: “What can I improve ” Reflecting on
failures helps you avoid repeating them, as your past mistakes are often your best teachers.
All in all, keep things balanced and never let go ofyour passions and values. With consistent efforts, your life will certainly change for the better.
A .Expand your social circle.
B .But how can you get wiser
C .Never back away from learning.
D .But what makes fictional heroes so wise
E .Stay within your comfort zone for stability.
F .Overly focusing on our shortcomings won’t get us anywhere.
G .You can also change your routine and see where life takes you.

“Another A+, and I’ll get you that new game you’ve been wanting,” my mom said with a smile. It was just the motivation I needed. I was usually a pretty good student, but with that extra push, I was determined to do well on my next math test. Every evening, I buried myself in my
notes, practicing problems. My confidence grew with every completed practice test.
When the big day arrived, I felt ready. I took a deep breath as I entered the classroom and tried to keep calm. But despite all the preparation, my nerves got the better of me. Halfway
through the test, I blanked on a formula, and time was running out. I scribbled down the best answers I could and handed in my paper, hoping for the best.
A week later, I got the test back. My heart sank as I saw the big red “A-” at the top. “No
game,” I thought miserably. It wasn’t a bad grade, but it wasn’t enough. Disappointed, I stared at the grade, wishing it could magically turn into an “A+”. I could almost hear my mom’s voice, full of pride, congratulating me on my hard work. The idea gnawed (啃咬) at me until I did something I never thought I’d do. I changed the “-” into a “+”.
The moment I got home, I handed the test to my mom with a forced smile. She looked at it and congratulated me, hugging me proudly. Then she turned to walk toward her bedroom. My
heart raced-part excitement, part a sharp twist of guilt I couldn’t ignore. A moment later, she
emerged holding a black box, the logo of the game I’d begged for glinting in the lamplight. “I
picked it up yesterday, just knowing my hardworking kid would pull through,” she said, pressing the box into my hands. I forced a thank-you, my voice tight.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为 150 个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。
Later that night, I tossed and turned in bed, lost in reflection.
The next morning, I decided to tell her the truth even if it meant losing the game.

46 .Dear Nick,
How’s everything going I’m writing to tell you about a recent trend at my school.
Some of my classmates have been sharing their campus life on social media, from morning reading and club activities to sports meets and cafeteria meals. Their posts, full of lively photos
and warm stories, have quickly gone viral, attracting thousands of likes and followers.
Most classmates think it’s a great way to show our school’s charm and connect with others. It also makes us more aware of the little joys in daily life. However, some worry that spending too much time online might take our attention away from studies.
In my opinion, this is a double-edged sword. While it’s good to share our life, we should balance online sharing with real-life study and interactions. What do you think of this Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

Later that night, I tossed and turned in bed, lost in reflection. I kept thinking about the test,
wondering whether I should tell Mom the truth. If I told her, I would lose the game. But ifI didn’t, I would be dishonest. I couldn’t sleep. The next morning, I didn’t get up as usual. My mom came into my room and asked what was wrong. I decided to tell her the truth. As I lay there, the image of Mom’s proud smile when she saw my “A+” kept flashing before my eyes, making my chest
tight with guilt.
The next morning, I decided to tell her the truth even if it meant losing the game. I told Mom I failed the test and she left without saying a word. I thought she would be angry, but when she
came back, she said, “I believe you can do better next time.” I was so surprised and I promised to study hard. I learned that my mom loved me and I should be honest. From that day on, I worked
harder than ever, determined to earn the trust and respect I truly deserved.
